Came here for dinner tonight and in general, it was hong kong style café food but in HUGE portions for a generally reasonable price! We had the salted fish and chicken fried rice which was a bit dry but absolutely massive. Equally large was the beef fried rice noodles which weren’t too salty or oily. The chicken steak baked with tomato sauce was okay although a little too saucy but my favourite was the paella with PLENTY of seafood on top in a similar sauce on top of fried rice. Overall, if you want to be really full for a good price, come here. Other than that, service wasn’t rude or ever hurried us so that was a plus!

Everything about my experience with this restaurant was 3 star. The restaurant décor was decent and clean. The service was ok. The food, while served in gigantic portions(we had food leftover that lasted me and my husband the next two meals), tasted only ok. The price was well priced considering the portion of food. We ordered the paella and the fried satay beef rice noodles. Both dishes came with a soup and the paella came with a drink as well. I really liked their Chinese style cream soup, a much lighter version of the Western-style cream soup. The sauce in both dishes were good but a bit salty. The rice in the paella and the noodles in the other dish was a bit overcooked. If I had a craving for HK food and I was in the area, I would drop by. But it’s not a restaurant I’d drive out of the way for.

I had urgent craving for HK café food and we had to come here. I was out with my sister to go to Angel’s Café and Sun Tin Day Café was in a closer location by walking distance from home. Decent food with gigantic portion along with fast friendly service. Before ordering we didn’t know what to order. Other tables were all eating yummy food with huge portion. Paella came to our mind after peeking at one table. So we got Paella($ 12.99) and my favourite dish which is Baked Pork chop($ 10.99). After ordering 2 items we didn’t realize how big it’d be. It was more suitable for 4 people and we couldn’t finish our food at all. The portion was 2x bigger than what I had from Angel’s Café on Fraser. Waitress was helpful. She asked if it was our first visit and came by to make sure we’re enjoying food here. Yes, we did. It was worth the visit. Paella and Baked Pork chop was good, sauce tasted similar though. Borsht soup that came with Paella was very delicious. Pork chop was delicious and tender. However, Pork chop and Paella were salty and we really had to drink some water afterwards.

I’ve heard good things about this place, mainly the decent-priced meal sets, so 3 of us came here to try it out. My mom actually came here earlier in the week, and she wanted to come back again — and that NEVER happens. She said the fried noodle dishes are good, and the borscht soup you get(in place of the drink included in the meal) is quite good. The dishes coming out were pretty massive, so between the 3 of us, we just shared 2 meals. We tried the beef brisket rice noodles, the bowl was massive — but it was so disappointing! The soup was bland, and there was a brown corn starch sauce on top. It was making the rest of the clear soup coagulate and thick, had no flavor at all. I usually don’t add flavor to my soup(aside from hot sauce if avail), but I had to douse it in Maggi sauce. The other dish we tried was pepper beef and veggies on deep fried chow mein. There were plenty of noodles, but not enough sauce on top, therefore a very dry dish. All I could taste was just pepper, and the cuts of meat weren’t very good. I don’t think I’d come back again. maybe, just maybe, if my cousin tried hard enough to convince me to try the other dishes that she recommends.

This place opened recently. Food isn’t the best but decent enough. Portions are huge though so a good deal. The lunch combos come with a hot drink for $ 6-$ 9 depending on what you order. There are a lot of eateries on Victoria drive but I think they will do ok. Service is good. The servers are very friendly. Cash only. They charge $ 1 extra for each take out dish. That’s a load of baloney and they don’t let you know ahead of time. I will only eat in and never take out.

Not a big fan of Hong Kong Café’s, but these folks serve some pretty tasty eats at ginormous portions! Only qualm is that some of the waitresses just seem totally overwhelmed and lost no matter how busy or quiet the restaurant is.

If you like Hong Kong style western food then you’ll want to give Sun Tin Day Café a try. My party ordered their Beef Chow Fun, Curry Rock Cod Rice Plate, and the Baked Mixed Steak(chicken and pork) Rice. All of the dishes came out nice and hot and the portions were very generous. The dishes were also very tasty. We also sampled their Borsch and Clam Chowder soups, both of which were good as well. Lastly, their HK style milk teas had a lot of tea flavor while I’ve been to other HK restaurants that really have light flavored milk teas. All-in-all, if you’re in the east side of Vancouver and you get a hankering for HK style western food; definitely pay Sun Tin Day Café a visit. The portions of their offerings make this place great for groups that like to share food.

Newly opened for a few days. I think they probably will have a tough time to compete against the neighbourhood eateries in the area since the décor, ambiance, service, food taste & portion are just mediocre, yet the price is not particular fair so to speak… Wish them luck and hopefully there will be improvement so that STDC will last…
