You can’t really go wrong with sushi in Vancouver. The ingredients were fresh, the atmosphere was laid back and typical of a sushi restaurant. The service was okay. There was no wine on the menu, though we managed with beer and sake, and the pop Japanese music was a little loud, but, overall, it was a good meal at good prices.

Never have I given a restaurant a one star review on Unilocal before, and, honestly, that seems excessive for Sushi Robo. After a bike ride around Stanley Park during my vacation, I stopped by Sushi Robo for a single passion fruit flavored bubble tea.(Approx. $ 4.) After paying with my debit card I waited for the receipt, the cashier waived me away saying, «It went through. You don’t need to sign,» never giving me a receipt. Upon returning home from my trip and reviewing my bank statement, I saw that Sushi Robo had charged me over $ 48 for the bubble tea! After many telephone calls with the restaurant and my bank, the charge has yet to be reversed because I do not have a receipt… when one was never offered.

Wow this place has gone down hill over the years. The rolls that we ordered bordered on inedible. The sushi rice(yet again — common in and around Vancouver yet people don’t care) under cooked. The spicy salmon roll I tried was bland, but had a strange tasted that would come back to haunt me later in the evening. I used to frequent this place years ago when i lived in the area. I thought I would try it out again as it was always dependable in the past. Skip it. There are tonnes, and I mean tonnes of better sushi restaurants in the immediate area that are not only miles above in the freshness department, they also care about their product.

Cheap, fast sushi, and quite tasty. I sometimes go there for a light meal on my way to Stanley Park! Nothing special, but ok food for cheap!

Sushi Robo sounds like some giant fighting robot developed by the Japanese government to dispense justice through out the galaxy one roll at a time. Sadly this isn’t the case at all, and Sushi Robo is just a pretty average grab-and-go sushi joint. If you’re in need of a quick, inexpensive sushi fix and don’t have time to wait at some of the other sushi bars near by, then the ‘Robo’ is a good option. On the other hand if you’re looking for some freshly, made-to-order rolls, prepared by a skilled sushi chef then you might want to head else where. After all they do actually have a sushi robot in the back that makes a number of their rolls. I tried to take a picture of it but the lady at the till was having none of that.

Why not picking one of Vancouver’s millions of Sushi places for the very first Unilocal review… I actually just strolled down Robson to find a Sushi place that is not a restaurant, and, there we go. This little tiny take-out sits itself between McDonald’s and a bigger Japanese restaurant, and don’t be intimidated by the small window and the neon signs. I went there twice and got tuna rolls, spicy tuna rolls, and unagi rolls, every time great quality and nicely arranged as well. Their main business is take-out but you can also sit down on one of the 6 bar chairs. Reasonably priced($ 2.75 for tuna roll, $ 3.75 for unagi roll), getting your sushi lunch/dinner/snack over there is highly recommendable! Only 4 out of 5 because the lady at the counter was trying too hard sell their stuff at the second time I visited.
