Taboo Naughty but Nice Show

My 1^st time ever, and probably not for awhile. Not that it was bad, but when you shop enough online as well at the retail level, the products here aren’t as big of a deal lol.
Thankfully, had a connection there so for the hour or so I was there, it was more fun for the atmosphere, just being at these trade shows which I used to be more accustomed with.
Too bad I missed out on the live shows.
And the show’s quite diverse, product-​wise that it wasn’t just for sex toys or fiends haha, as most people who haven’t gone before may be thinking.
Imagine this show travels throughout North America but we sure have it lucky, getting this before Valentine’s Day, some new ideas/​themes, is bound to open up those wallets ;)

The last Taboo show I found it uneventful, like a dirty shoe convention of stores that I already visit around town, items that aren’t daring to be different and of course your ho hum toys that you can get anywhere.
I went on a 2 for 1 Social Shopper coupon. I would never pay $ 20 to enter a convention like that.
It was less about the sex and more for the people watching and human behavior study on sexuality. This is the same reason I attend wedding shows even though I have no intention of getting married anytime soon… it is all for the social study on human behavior.
One of the priceless moments for me was attending the spanking seminar. I loved seeing the body language of those uncomfortable, curious and people who want to dabble, however, don’t understand that there’s more to spanking than a slap on the a$$. Most in attendance were younger ones in the back or those who really needed a rest. The ones up front, judging by their body language were lifers in their relationship and they wanted to turn up the heat.
Most of the couples that were in attendance, judging by their body language, didn’t seem to have an intimate connection and were looking for a band-​aid solution to cure or treat their sexual slumps. Their reactions to certain products, especially from the men, were tale telling in regards to how they view their own relationship or the needs of others. Those little physical body language ques were entertaining.
Sex is a mental thing and passion is initiated when there’s a sense of connection with the person you’re with whether with a casual encounter or life long partner. I came out with a feeking of hollowness after the convention the last time.
There was a hockey game that night and the men were more focused on the game. Only in Canada do we put hockey before sex. Having been defeated the night before put those men’s libidos on the soft side. Even the naked topless girls in body paint did nothing for the stiff puppies ’cause of the hockey loss.
Speaking of hockey… most of the Canucks fans flocked to the sadomazohizam section since they certainly like their beatings.
There were a few products that stood out for me that reduced the tension in my back due to a car accident years ago that sometimes prevents me from being freakier. It’s a chronic thing due to this injury. A lot of these products from tie up restraints to wedge pillows were around the $ 250 mark. Some serious budgeting may have to be considered for this. I also felt that a lot of the therapeutic sex pillows were marked up. I am sure that I can buy this from a chiropractic store for a ¹⁄₃^rd of the cost.
There was an intricate tie up bondage restrainment set that I demoed in front of a small crowd that made me blush. It was also weird that a gay guy turned me on as he was tying me up. It was more to do with being tied up and less about who was doing the tying.
There were a lot of mystery grab bags at the toy tables ranging from $ 20 — $ 50 most likely of old stock. Without knowing what exactly is in each bag made it difficult for me to purchase some of these surprise bags.

Got some free tickets so went with a friend. I was expecting something different from a «tradeshow» but it was fun enough. The shows were lame though, and many regulars told us they are normally more entertaining. Let’s see about next year.

Attended this year (2013) on the Sunday and thought i’d add my 2 cents!
First of all I thought that the MVK (Metro Vancouver Kink), Sin City and Noir dungeon area was very well put together in terms of space, variety, friendly staffing and info.
Having a bar/​licensed event was also a nice touch.
The rest of the event left a lot to be desired.
Caught two talks that were happening but could barely hear anything due to the noise of surrounding crowd, vendors etc.
Lots of booths selling ‘Made in China’ style no name sex toys at stupidly inflated prices and there were some vendors that didn’t seem to tie in with the adult event theme e.g. paintball, handbags and flame-​less candles were just a few that i spotted.
I think sex positive events like this are important but the organizers should put some more thought into separating out the areas, ensuring vendors are at least connected to the adult/​sexy theme and having the vendors in one area and the workshops in another.
Also parking at the convention center was extortionate ($ 7 an hour)

Definitely the same repetitive booths are what annoyed me most but we did end up with some fun toys to take home after visiting EVERY single booth and comparing prices… I guess we didn’t get to catch any shows except someone being punched in the butt and the tattooing but it’s definitely a kinksters heaven.
We’ll go back next year just to see more of what we missed this year. 2 hours was long enough for me this time…

The Taboo Naughty But Nice Show is an adult trade show that comes to Vancouver mid-​January, just in time for you to buy something special for your valentine in February. The show runs from Thursday to Sunday, and has a stage performace pretty much every hour with a different act on it. This year the main stage featured the talents of the lovely Burgandy Brixx, Neil E. Dee, and Samantha Mack, just to name a few. They also had side stages for conferences geared towards more intimate classes, such as g-​spot awareness and anal play. There are several booths set up from local businesses, like Little Sisters, Deadly Couture, Lace Embrace Corsettry and Pin-​Up Perfection. It’s a great chance to shop at all your favourite kinky spots all at once! There is also a dungeon hosted by Sin City, MVK and Noir Fetish events, so you can come in and watch people get spanked, tied up or flogged. Basically no matter what your kink is, you will probably have if fullfilled at some point during the weekend at Taboo.
Friday night and Saturday night get a little bit crazy since there is booze being sold at the show, and some people who come down ready to get randy, get totally shit-​faced instead, which I am quite sure can lead to some weekend hook-​ups. If you enjoy sex (as I am sure most of you do) and you have a positive outlook on sex-​friendly events, you should totally check out this show. You don’t have to have a partner to come, there are plenty of dudes checking out the dirty magazines, as there are ladies going shopping with their girlfriends for sexy lingerie. Overall, its a super fun event that keeps Vancouver from being no-​fun-​couver!
