The Belgard Kitchen

Atmosphere was beautiful, but the food was quite bland and nothing special. The reviews online for dinner tapas were grossly exaggerated with respect to quality and taste, so we were rather disappointed. As for service, we were repeatedly interrupted, the waitresses came into ask questions and take things from the table whenever it suited them, not paying any attention to whether it was an appropriate time to cut in (mid conversation etc.). Near the end of our dining experience the waitress was quite rude, and we left very unhappy. We will not be coming back for dinner again, which is a shame because the establishment is quite pretty. The subpar service and average food really ruined it for us.

I came here for brunch and left thoroughly satisfied with my sausage skillet. I absolutely loved the sauce that was on top of my eggs. Very indulgent, but so good. The only thing I didn’t like were my potatoes. I wish they had broken them up a little more instead of having two big chunks of potato in the skillet. I had imagined it to be more like a hash than a baked potato on the bottom.
Service was incredibly slow which I found surprising. I would have thought they’d want to move people along considering they’re normally quite busy. However, there was no line during our visit, also a surprise, so maybe that is why they were slow.

Stopped in on a Saturday around 1pm to grab brunch. Waited about 20 mins for a table for two. Wait staff was really nice, but they weren’t the most attentive. Not a big deal though.
Tried the Railtown wrap and the quinoa yogurt bowl. Both were really good. The railtown wrap was like eating a health (ier) breakfast shawarma which left me satisfied. It was one of those things you eat then go «wtf, there was no cheese in this!». The potatoes it came with were kinda bland but offered some sustenance. The yogurt bowl/parfait/(whatever the heck you call it) was solid too – something we ordered to «feel better about ourselves»
I’ll be back and probably try the meatball skillet next time around.

I am just a regular guy who wanted to go to a pub with some friends, drink some beer and eat some ribs. The rib dish they gave me was more like a salad. Just take a look at the picture– it just looks sad. And they charge $ 20 for this much ribs! I mean, movie theatre popcorn is cheap in comparison. They really should have a warning that if you are over 100lb you are gonna starve after eating this.

The Settlement building offers a brewery, lounge and delicious food all in one. We had brunch with a large group at Belgard and the service was great and food was delicious. Love the atmosphere and décor as well. Prices are reasonable. I had the brunch burger, which was absolutely delicious. The meat was super, toppings and sauces were fresh and a super soft and fresh bun. Hubby had the steak and eggs: two thumbs up. He also enjoyed the winter red ale on tap. They must make their ketchup in house. It was okay but I personally prefer the regular old kind! I want to return for the dinner menu next time. Two thumbs up, Belgard!

Ugh. Could this place be any prettier? Just gorgeous. That little nook along the back wall? Shut up. Stunning. And speaking of décor, the portraits in the ladies room are a definite highlight. Check it out.
Have been in twice for some appies and beer flights and seemingly arrived just early enough to miss the rush. It looks like you could end up waiting awhile without a reservation? But lets all just give thanks that they do take reservations… considering how hip this place looks it is surprising no? MENTAL NOTE: Make reservations
On the vegetarian front, the hummus, the beet dip, and the tomato soup with grilled cheese dippers are delightful. Great for sharing, but you’re always going to want more.
The service is fantastic, even when it is bonkers busy.
I have just been informed that they do brunch. Holy crap.

Be ready to wait for a seat… We arrived on a Saturday at around 2 pm and wanted to make it before brunch ended at 3pm. Even though it was really late already, the place was packed and we still had to wait for around 15 minutes. We were still able to get the brunch menu though! A very late brunch for us!
I started brunch off with a Tasting Paddle. You can choose the beers you want or have the waitress choose for you. My favourite was the Strawberry Blonde since it had a hint of fruitiness to it. The West Coast Pale Ale was too bitter for my liking. For $ 8, this is a great way to try different beers.
S got the beer on tap which was the Raspberry Lemon Zest Hefe. I actually really enjoyed this one since it was light and fruity.
For food, S got the Steak and Eggs, which featured Argentinian spice rubbed flank, chimichurri, and poached eggs. It normally comes with Parmesan cream, but he asked for it without. I thought the portion looked a bit small, but it’s still quite acceptable. S said the steak itself was a bit chewy though and wished that there was a bit more seasoning to it.
For myself, I got the Belgard Meatball Brunch Skillet, which features fresh mozza, San Marzano tomato sauce, poached eggs, smoky onion and Parmesan cream, and a side of brunch spuds. I loved the meatballs! The Parmesan cream sauce mixed with the tomato sauce was delicious. At first, I thought four meatballs and 2 poached eggs would not be enough, but the heavy cream made the dish very filling. I loved how the poached eggs were cooked just until the yolks spilled out.
Overall, I was quite pleased with the food and drinks at Belgard Kitchen for brunch. Definitely the place to go if you want drinks. Prices can be a bit pricey and there is often a wait. Cool hip ambiance though and service was decent.

Remain seated, take a deep breath, and order just about anything on this menu for an out of body experience!
Belgard has mastered what I define as a perfect dining experience —
A) Atmosphere — classy and elegant, yet rustic and unrefined. A true boho chic experience capturing Edison lights and exposed brick with timeless furnishings.
B) Egg & Avocado — let’s face it, everything is more awesome with egg and avo, and belgard has figured this out! From the brunch burger, to the steak and eggs, they have mastered the art of pairing the right flavors that explode both during and after each bite.
C) Drinks — from craft cocktails to an array of beers from their onsite brewery, there’s a right choice to accommodate every pallet and pairing!
D) Staff — lovely, kind, generous, and everything in between. Always smiling, always beautiful.

Great room, this is a really great addition to this area and the service was good. I’m very excited to come back and try some of the beers in the tasting room
The food had the look of those modern brunch places, not healthy, but delicious,. but I felt that the flavours were not comparable to Chambar or even the Red Wagon despite the trappings. In fact I wondering if they had forgotten the salt. We had a skillet and a tiny thing of expensive pancakes.
Prices are high but I’d be willing to go back if only to spend more time in that amazing space.

Had some of their food. Absolutely amazing.
Gravlax pizzette — nice large pieces of salmon. Nice and crispy crust.
Belgard burger — nice thick patty. Bun is pretty puffy but can be squished down.
Beer — only 5 types available, so just skip one and try a flight of the other 4.
Definitely recommended.

Wow, I absolutely love the stunning atmosphere this place radiates. Situated in Railtown (a few doors down from Ask For Luigi) in a renovated industrial building — think high ceilings, natural exposed wood, modern-​chic décor, with a wall of barrels as your dining backdrop.
We came here for dinner and drinks. The shrimp and scallop risotto with spring peas and shoots ($ 19) was the perfect balance of comfort and freshness. The flank steak with chimichurri (Argentinian spice rub, pickles beets, and Malbec molasses $ 13) threw out a variety of solid flavours left and right. The rub on the steak was savoury while the pickled beets added acidity to the sweetness of the molasses sauce. For dessert, I ordered the baked yogurt ($ 6). Everything was beautifully plated in a whimsical, organic way.
I would give it a solid 5 stars if the portions were a bit larger for the dinner price tags.
For drinks, I had the beer paddle ($ 7) — I opted for the Blonde, Pale Ale, Saisson and the Stout. All very tasty. Be warned though, don’t let your drink sit for too long as they do not have AC and can get pretty warm during the day.
I will definitely be back to try the other dinner items as well as the brunch. Service was top-​notch!

The Belgard Kitchen is located within The Settlement Building where Vancouver Urban Winery, Roaring Twenties Wine Co and Postmark Brewing all operate out from 55 Dunlevy Ave, Vancouver. We first toured the facility with Made In Strathcona Tour. We loved the high ceilings, button tuft booths and brunch on the weekends.
Caesar with beer: A lighter and bubbly version of a typical Caesar. It isn’t very spicy if you like your Caesar with some kick!
Belgard Meatball Brunch Skillet 15: fresh mozza, San Marzano tomato sauce, poached eggs, smoky onion + parmesan cream, brunch spuds. This reminds me of the spicy Moroccan lamb Les Boulettes meatballs from Café Medina.
Belgard Brunch Burger 13: Pemberton Meadows beef, Village Cheese Works cheddar, caramelized onions, house relish, iceberg, tomato, fried egg, brioche bun, brunch spuds.
The Growler station is open 11am — 11pm daily. Built backing onto the brewhouse, away from the lounge in order to service customers faster and pull beer straight from the brite tanks. The custom-​built 12 tap pouring system allows for pre-​gassing bottles, and extremely fast pour speeds. Enjoy!

I have to admit I hated the first 15 minutes of my visit here and wanted to leave, but thankfully it got better.
We had reservations so got seated right away, but even though they could see that we had our little girl with us they seated us at one of the high tables right next to a group of guys celebrating a stag (I think my daughter learned some new words). Thankfully, they left about 20 minutes later.
The worst part was that we sat there for over 10 minutes before our server even noticed us and we could see other tables who had arrived after us getting their drink orders taken. Once our server noticed us, she was attentive for the rest of the evening and my experience vastly improved.
The beer is from Postmark Brewing and unfortunately they don’t brew any GF beer. Luckily for me I do enjoy a good wine flight or two so I tried both the Sommelier’s Choice and the Seeing Red flights. Note: bypass the Seeing Red, it’s not nearly as good as the Sommelier’s Choice.
They don’t have a lot of vegetarian, GF food, but I made do with the hummus and raw veggies and the risotto. The risotto was AMAZING! The three dessert options didn’t appeal to any of us, but I was stuffed from the risotto.
I really liked the décor, the food was solid and the service was OK. I will most likely return and this time remember to buy a bottle from the Urban Winery!

I had the salmon hash, and it was delicious! Lovely plating, fresh tasting, loved the house cured salmon!
The service was really friendly — and not in a fake/​waitress like way LOL. The décor here is gorgeous too, high ceilings, bright, they even have a fireplace with a few couches in the corner!
I really want to come back to try their lunch and dinner menu!

Om nom nom! What a beautiful place with delicious food! Tucked away in Railtown, this place is open and spacious and has plenty of room for your brunch party. It wasn’t very noisy despite the high ceilings, but we did have trouble getting the portable credit card machine to work.
Aside from that, their brunch was delicious! I started off right away with some bacony goodness (which is actually pork belly, but I’ll let it slide due to the delicious maple caramel). It was fab, and totally set the note for the rest of the meal. Even the little 3 year old at the table enjoyed it (she has good taste)!
I picked up the Swedish Pancakes, and the rest of the table ordered the Smashed Avocado and Sourdough with a side of salmon gravlax, the meatball brunch skillet, the ale sausage skillet, and the steak and eggs. The food was all good — I felt the portion size of my pancakes were pretty small though — think crepes. They also gave us some homemade hot sauce and ketchup, both super good. And one friend even ordered a flight of their own beer (because nothing says brunch like beer! except maybe mimosas?)
Overall, the food and service is great here. I would love to come back and try their regular menus, if only to enjoy the atmosphere again!

I like these guys… the whole building is amping the ambitions of the neighborhood. The décor is impressive, the social vibe is enjoyable, and the beverages are outstanding.
Alas, I can’t rave about the food. It’s good and all… but nothing over the top mindblowing the way I expect it to be after reading the menu. I ordered the korean rice bowl, with no added protein, and was left feeling like there was a brick in my gut and the overpowering tastes of kimchi and old garlic clinging to my tongue, even after brushing my teeth after the meal. The next day I felt like I was emitting my displeasure on others.
My friends ordered the lentil curry and was nonplussed about receiving nothing much more than 3, count them THREE main carbs… rice, potatoes and naan… with just enough «lentil curry» (read pureed lentils) to moisten the rice a tad.
I’ll keep coming back for the beer, wine and company… but I don’t think I’ll make this place my first choice for a meal anytime soon.

Belgard is my new fave brunch spot! While it can get busy during peak brunch hours, I’ve never had to wait more than 10 – 15 mins. There’s a bunch of different seating options: high tops, bar, tables and a large couch. I love the décor in there. It’s like being in someone’s cozy cabin.
I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had so far there: Sausage skillet with poached eggs and rich Parmesan cream, mushrooms and potatoes; salmon hash; smashed avocado on sourdough (add salmon and poached egg to make it more of a meal). There’s lots of other tasty sounding things on the menu and I always see someone eating the breakfast wrap so that’s on my list next time.
Service can be a bit slow because they’re so busy but everyone is friendly.
Pro-​tip: Since it’s conveniently located in Railtown, there’s ample free street parking.

I absolutely love this place. From the grand wooden front doors to the wall of barrels, this space brings an experience that makes you feel like you’re in another city.
Sometimes there can be a wait for a table, but they’re glad to take down your number and call you when your table is ready.
The place has a different atmosphere from brunch to dinner to late night bites. For brunch, the space is filled with natural light, and the food really stands out. Get the steak and eggs. These aren’t just regular steak and eggs. It’s an Argentinian spiced rubbed flank, with chimichurri, and 2 perfectly poached eggs with a smoky onion and cream sauce, and a side of oven roasted potatoes. The steak is cooked perfectly, and that smoky onion cream sauce is so delicious.
At night, the space becomes more cozy and romantic, candlelight and the high ceilings makes this a great place for dinner, or just for a drink. I like how the space is shared with Postmark Brewing and Vancouver Urban Winery, giving patrons lots of choices for beverages. I’ve had the rock shrimp ceviche and the Margherita pizzette. The ceviche is a good blend of the lime and the serrano pepper, nothing too strong. There’s also a good amount of the rock shrimp. The pizza is also a good item for sharing.
Service is always great. Attentive and friendly, and always checking on how we’re doing.
I must say, this is my new favourite spot in town.

The best part about eating with foodies is they always seem to be the human google who know which restaurants have the best food, bars that serve up the best drinks, places to hang out regardless of your budget. Foodies are fun, adventurous, and simply put — cool. I was fortunate to be taken here by a Unilocal heavy weight. He dressed like he’s going to a speed dating event — polished from head to toe, ready to impress the ladies. I, on the other hand, dressed like a hobo who just crawled out of the gym with visible sweat stains in my crotch. I was hesitant as we pulled up to the address. This place looks gorgeous! I was clearly under dressed.
We arrived on a Saturday at around noon. I was surprised to find we were quickly seated, no waiting involved. Our server Kelsey R., was a doll. She was sweet, courteous, and friendly. She and amongst the staff, didn’t seem to mind my (lack of) attire.
The heavy weight ordered a venison skillet, and a cider Mimosa. I, wanting to go «healthy», ordered steak & eggs, and a taster of amber hazelnut ale which after the first sip I ordered another one for him because I ain’t sharing no beer with nobody. It was that good!
While we were waiting for our brunch to arrive we exchanged our observations. Wine barrels, high ceilings, ceiling glass (to allow natural light to shine in), bar tables, regular tables, shelves of wines, stairs, stainless steel wine tanks, delicious looking food, flights of wine and beer passing by us. The ambiance reminded me of elegant casual cafes in The Bay Area in San Francisco. Oh SF, I miss you.
Not long later our food arrived. I really enjoyed the perfectly cooked flank steak (sliced already) with chimichurri, two perfectly soft poached eggs with luscious yellow running yolks on onion cream sauce, and a side of potatoes served in mini cocotte. I loved the food. It was clean and exactly what I wanted, real food. Taste and seasoning were on the dot.
I had a bite of the venison sausages and I enjoyed it. The sourdough bread which was buttered and lightly charred with grill marks was perfect to mop up my onion sauce.
Hazelnut amber ale was a good beverage of choice to cut the rich food. I am not a beer person but they had me at «Hazelnut» and again, I am not a beer connoisseur but it was pleasant and complementary to my brunch.
The total damage came to $ 41.85 before tips, which was hardly a damage considering I got to take home a box of delicious leftovers. I would highly recommend.

Winery + restaurant + brewery all under one wicked cool space in Railtown? That’s just smart. All they’re missing now is a distillery to have all boozes covered.
Our 1^st visit was primarily to check out Postmark Brewing (to be reviewed separately. We wanted to eat at Belgard but the wait was too long.
Couple days later we came back for dinner. They don’t have that many tables so come early. We had to wait about 20−30min for our table of 3. They only accept reservations for parties of 6+.
The space has super airy kind of like a market with wooden ceilings and giant fans. Wicked vibe.
Here are the tapas we tried:
Mushroom + bacon pâté — super smooth with great hint of citrus
Beet salad — Wouldn’t order again, just beets
Roasted mushroom & country bacon pizzette — great mix
Flank steak w/​chimichurri — great spice and sauce
Belgard meatballs — tomato sauce was very good, balls had good flavour
I had a pint of Postmark IPA (their best IMO) and also shared a ‘Seeing Red’ wine flight of 5 of BCs finest. Great value for $ 12.
With tax and tip the bill came to $ 39pp which is very reasonable for what you get.
