When a friend told me about«the awesome hot dog stand outside Future Shop», I had no idea what she was talking about. Little did I know I would be converted minutes later. Parking here is awful. There’s also somebody who rats on parking violators here to the City(seriously), though this is normally directed at those who are visiting Future Shop. So be careful. As it was a special occasion, I went all out and had the Farmer’s Sausage($ 7.25) hot dog. The menu advertises it as «HUGE», but it’s really is about the same size(maybe a tad bigger) compared to the Costco one which costs 1⁄5 as much. With that said, the wasabi mayonnaise is quite good. And it’s nice that they have other toppings as well, such as olives. Not sure I can justify the price regularly, but the product is definitely satisfying.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite hot dog stand anywhere. Next one assortment of hot dogs and toppings(including more kinds of mustard than I can count) and complementary fried onions. My wife is a vegetarian. This is literally the only place where she will have a veggie hotdogs.(The spicy veg wiener.).

If you want a non-traditional Japanese inspired hot dog, you go to Japa Dog. I’m not going to argue about that whatsoever. BUT if you want a traditional hot dog(Jalepeno and cheese, European wiener, cheese dog, bratswurst, etc), you come to The Dawg House! When you bite in, there’s a snap on the dog. But that bun… oh god, that bun is so soft. I get my bun toasted so it’s soft on the inside with a bit of crustiness on the outside. This place has been here for well over 10 years and I hope it stays here permanently! Once I told my friend I was going to take her to lunch. When we stopped at the hot dog place, she thought I was joking. Was I? Hell no! She b*tched and moaned but I told her to shut up until she shoved the food in her mouth. After just one bite, she said we should split a second one. LOL. I love the friendly service. I love the cooked onions that you can also put on your dogs. I love that the hot dogs and the buns are made specifically for them, so you won’t find them anywhere else. Forget Dougie Dog(had food poisoning from their food) and any other hot dog cart — this is the place to go to get your traditional hot dog fix. These people work rain or shine, and customers also show up rain or shine. What does that tell you?

After ignoring this hot dog stand outside Future Shop for YEARS, I decided to finally give it a try. I may be out of touch with Vancouver hot dog stand prices, but the ones here struck me as pushing the upper limits. I ordered a jumbo dog of some kind — something in the mid-range — and waited nervously while chatting with the friendly owner. «Grilled onions?» «Yes, please.» «Okay, I’ll put a lot.» To my delight, it was a downright delicious dog. Really. The bread was nicely toasted on the inside, the meat was crisp, juicy, and flavorful. The fun part is choosing from the dozen or so sauces from the squeeze bottles on hand.

Just had a bratwurst dog for lunch. Perfect! Complete with relish and fried onions. I try to get a different dog every time I go there and was never disappointed.

I have never had a famous Japa Dog. While that might sound blasphemous coming from someone who lives in Vancouver, it’s because the Dawg House is so damn good! I lived in Berkeley, CA for several years and I went to local hot dog chain, Top Dog, regularly. Ordering brat w/some mayo or cheese was always a pleasure. But then I moved to Vancouver. Luckily, early on in my time here, I found the Dawg House. While there menu is not as extensive at Top Dog, the food is just as good. You will always find the hot dog cart outside of the Future Shop with the same friendly staff, always ready to cook you up a brat w/their array of condiments at your beck and call. I am partial to the brat w/their Dawg House cheese condiment. If you ever find yourself within walking distance of Burrard and Broadway and want a hot dog, I would highly recommend walking past the Dawg House and picking something up.

i know everyone raves about japadog and I’ve never tried it because I’m loyal to this place. Try the jalepeno cheese dog, it’s spicy and damn good. it’s nitrate free which means Jen will eat it them. She really likes them and shes not really the kind of girl that eats things off a cart. Chipoltle cranberry relish is good on the dog with some horseradish mustard.
