I’ve been here for about 10 shows in my life here all yielding same results. Back in the day and a few shows now bands will play here as an outdoor venue alternative. The intent is appreciate and some shows worked better than others, however, the trek was a bit of a pain in the ass. The general layout was/is less to be desired over. The sound quality is actually surprisingly good for an outdoor show. It’s not my preferred venue but it does do what it needs within certain constraints.

While my first visit to Thunderbird Stadium was not to see the infamous UBC football team, the aptly named, Thunderbirds, I was able to get a better view of the stadium while attending a concert of Jack Johnson this past summer. By that I mean we were sitting right on the field! This stadium has been used as a concert venue many times in the past for Radiohead and Metallica amongst others, and it is perfect for holding up to 3,500 people. During a concert they tend to set up the stage not opposite the stands, so sitting in the stands is usually only preferred if you are here for a football game or you want to stay out of the rain! Outside of the stadium they sold beer at the beer tent set-up and you weren’t able to bring booze indoors. They did sell mini-donuts though! What a better way to appease the masses than with mini-donuts right?! All in all, it was a fantastic venue for a concert!
