Powder Bride

This review is for their 550 Parliament location. I was not impressed with the customer service that this location provided. I was dealing with Alessia. At first she seemed nice and welcoming. She initially started by suggesting dresses that she thought would be best suited for me. Of course without asking a budget she picked the most expensive ones. That was pretty presumptuous of her. Once I fell in love with a dress she began to be super pushy saying I would need to give her the money at that exact time in order to have the dress on time for the wedding that was not for several months. I let her know that I would be back at another time and that I would need to sleep on it as it was a big decision. I then booked an appointment at another date to come in and try it on again. When I was there Alessia became so rude. She was inattentive, she clearly did not care to help me out. Mind you this is after I have notified her I was looking at other stores. Does she really think this would be the only bridal store anyone would go too? Jealous and controlling much?
Moral of the story, terrible customer service for her overpriced dresses. Alessia is rude, clearly does not care about her clients at all and it’s all about making the sale. She is way too moody and caught up in her feelings to be dealing with customer service. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! They are not worth the drama.

My experience with Powder Bride started off OK. By my research I found out that they carried some Australian designer gowns that I was interested in trying on. I found their website hard to work as you have to register your email and book an appointment that way. Once registered, there is nothing online that you’re able to browse which I found odd. I set up my first appointment, however as I do not live in the city, I was unable to make it, and cancelled more than 24 hours in advance. I followed up asking for the next available appointment that worked for my schedule, and booked it, however again was unable to make the appointment. I again, still cancelled my appointment ahead of time and never MISSED an appointment.
Once I had browsed a few more bridal stores, I knew that I wanted to check out Powder to see what they had to offer. It was at this time that I called Powder directly (no answer) and left a voicemail requesting a return call. Two weeks passed and I hadn’t heard back from Powder. I followed up with an email advising that I had left a VM however had not received a return call and would like to book an appointment for a specific date. I received a snarky response from Alessia stating «we have corresponded back and forth with you. As you were unable to make your last two appointments. We have nothing available for that date. «In my follow up email to Alessia I asked her for her next available appointment after 5pm during the week .her response «I have personally checked all voicemails. At times we can’t make out a number due to static etc. We did not receive your voicemail. Regardless, all appointments have to be booked by email» …I’m not too sure if Alessia was actually reading my request for an appointment in my previous email, or just was interested in harping on the fact that she felt I didn’t leave a voicemail. At this point I was very irritated that instead of focusing on bringing in more business, I felt like I was being pushed away.
Fast forward a few more emails and I received a response indicating their first available appointment was October 22, I advised that I would like to accept this appointment time and within 30 mins received a response indicating the time slot had booked up. My patience was wearing thin. I requested another date, this time she indicated the first available was mid-​November. I explained that this was a little far out and questioned any earlier appointments. I received a response indicating they had no availability until mid-​November. At this point I questioned whether or not I would even want to deal with a boutique like Powder as my experience had been so negative. I explained this to a friend of mine who tried to make an appointment, and VOILA! An earlier appoinment date (end of October to be exact). I found that very strange. it seems like Powder does not need my business as they appear to have been punishing me for my cancelled appoinments.
You would think that being in the wedding industry, Powder would be understanding and kind, trying to make your whole experience postive. I found the complete opposite from Powder and would NOT recommend this store to ANYONE.

I was unhappy with my experience at this store. The salesperson was pushy and manipulative. She took it upon herself to tell me what she thought I should like based on my ‘tiny’ body (which happened to be the style of basically all the dresses in the store — sheath). She deliberately didn’t tell me the price of one of the gowns that I was trying, and then when she did, she gave me the price [of what a sample would cost], without telling me that I’d be buying the sample. (I figured that out after some probing.) If you want to be treated well I would suggest Jealous Bridesmaids, Ferre Sposa, Kleinfeld’s (the Toronto location), and Sash and Bustle. I had an awesome experience at each of those places and they have more selection.

My experience started out great with Adrianna at Powder. She was friendly, attentive, my mom also loved her, etc… but once she made the sale it all went out the window! Emails went dark, she never took initiative to let me know anything about my dress, including when it would be ready. I had to ask her for absolutely everything!!! She forgot the belt I chose to go with my dress and I had to remind her, apparently a swatch came in to show me my dress fabric — I never saw that! But towards the end things got even worse! As it turns out, I didn’t know that she was suppose to take my measurements regardless of what dress size I was! (Make sure to get this done!!!) Because the sample size that I tried on fit great, so she just ordered that same size for me, BUT as it was a sample dress it was pretty stretched out and so the dress she ordered in for me didn’t fit!!! 4 weeks before the wedding and it was too tight to go over my hips!!! And she didn’t take the blame, so I ended up paying to have it seriously altered and let it out. Not to mention, she didn’t even come to ONE of my dress fittings and that was the whole reason why I bought my dress from her! She said she would work closely with me to ensure the alterations went smoothly and were to my specifications but she didn’t come to any of my fittings and never called me again. No thank you, no nothing! Ultimately, it was a terrible experience and buying your wedding dress should be a great one.

They’re downtown now and I couldn’t have had a better experience.
Adrianna is amazing and squashes any of the pre conceived ’boutique’ notions.
Warm, inviting and you can tell she loves what she does.
Powder is the only place in Canada you can get Berta Bridal gowns and that’s why I went here. The dresses were stunning and many are perfect for the bride looking for something different but still elegant.
Adriana helped me find my perfect dress and I couldn’t be happier with it or her customer service.

Great experience at this hidden gem in Vaughan. Definitely worth the trip. Adriana is so personable and knowledgeable. She really has an eye for pulling out beautiful dresses for her clients and surrounds them in a comfortable atmosphere. The store carries elegant, unique, and dainty wedding dresses and red carpet-​type gowns.
