Best Western PLUS Carlton Plaza Hotel

Exceptional experience! Clean room. This is important to me. Vallet parking… Good eats… Alcohol love love this beautiful hotel.

Very good location in downtown Victoria and at walking distance from Chinatown and Inner Harbor. Rooms have all essentials and the hotel has a fitness room and office space. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, bars and shops nearby. Competent and friendly staff complement an overall very convenient hotel.

We got this hotel as a part of the Victoria Clipper package. The hotel is pretty basic with clean and comfortable rooms. The rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but perfect if you jut need a place to crash for a night or two.
The hotel is located a bit into the city, about a kilometer from the clipper terminal. We walked to it and stopped to look at shops and other attractions on our way, but I can see it being too long for some folks.
The Chinatown is nearby, and there are plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars in the vicinity. If you plan on using the commuter bus (BCtransit) to tour the city, this is an excellent location since there are many bus stops within a few blocks.
The hotel provides free wifi and bicycles to rent. There is a coin-​op laundromat inside the hotel. They also have maps of the city, and the front staff is pleasant and can help you plan your visit.
Verdict: If you’re on a romantic getaway and want a peaceful time, or don’t have expense constraints, stay at one of the better hotels in the Inner Harbor area. If you’re here on a fun trip to check out the nightlife and tourist places, this is a good but inexpensive option.

Booked as part of a Victoria Clipper package. If I had to do it again would have spent a little more and stayed at or closer to the Fairmont, where the VC excursions departed from. It’s a nice place, of course older like most buildings in Victoria. The elevator noise which others have mentioned sound like a garbage truck processing trash, but is not used between 11 pm and 7 am and we were out a lot so wasn’t a huge issue, and we were directly across from it on 6^th floor. Hot water was not so hot when showering at around 10 am. No shampoo in shower dispenser… bummer. Front desk staff VERY nice, allowed us to check in early. All in all good value for the money.

I stayed here for one night a couple weeks ago, and the front desk took down my car information, even though I told them multiple times that I do not plan, nor did I ever use, their valet service. A couple days later, I see that they charged me, for valet service that I never got. And then my credit card company gave me a foreign transaction fee too. Now I have to deal with getting my money back. Ridiculous.

Ok people: I’m going to give it to you straight: don’t stay here. Seriously. Don’t. I am looking at this from all sides and trying to find a reason to add another star but can’t. Check in is the only reason they are getting one star. The check in was easy and the woman was friendly. Her name was Annabelle. Sweet girl stuck at a dump. Our room faced a terrible neighborhood. Or it appeared to be considering all the graffiti that was our «view». Filthy old curtains, filthy old Naugahyde bench, old everything!!! The shampoos were some off brand and gross. The bathroom had soap scum in the shower from previous tenants. There was hair in the shower too. I was petrified staying here and trust me I am not the paranoid type. We locked all the locks and slept with a chair against the door. Omg I went to sleep at 930 to make the time go fast! Awoke at 4 and looked out the filthy curtain to see some kid adding more graffiti and I’m not kidding! I immediately started getting ready to check out. Bronte checked us out and stored our luggage so we could take in the sites of Victoria but trust me: we did not leave a single thing of value in the suitcases. It’s not that we didn’t trust the staff. They were the only good things about this dump. We didn’t trust the other guests or the neighborhood and who knew where this luggage was stored? Regardless there’s no reason to stay here. None! We did because it was a package with the Victoria Clipper but we should have upgraded to a different hotel. I vote NO to this dive! Annabelle and Bronte: move on! You’re too good for this place!

Stayed here for one night while on a trip that was semi-​planned. Found a great deal on Expedia.
The room was super basic but had a kitchenette and came with free wifi. This was my first time in a Best Western. No problems or complaints.
We asked the hotel clerk the next morning for a recommendation for breakfast, and she gave us a few referrals.

My SO & I went on a vacation & her birthday celebration to Victoria B.C. I booked our trip via Victoria Clipper & this hotel was part of the package. We stayed 2 nights & 3 days. Shortly after checking in I was surprised that the front desk in charged for the day (her name was B_​_​_​, I forgot, sorry) & another gentleman knocked at our door & delivered a small box of chocolate (Purdy’s) with a greeting card signed by all of the staff. They wowed us! Never expected that they value their guest that way. We really appreciate it, it means a lot! Thank you!
Another good thing about this hotel is that they provide water at the lobby to their guest.
Room is clean & organized. I would come back to this hotel. Great Job!

We booked this hotel through a package with had with Clipper Vacations. The hotel is a pretty far walk from the ferry so we ended up paying $ 20 for a pedicab. We lucked out and were able to check in early. The room was okay. Clean and the towels weren’t rough like sandpaper.
The BW is super close to Chinatown. If you’re not carrying a bunch of stuff with you it’s a pretty reasonable walk to get around town.
Would recommend this hotel if you’re traveling on a budget and just looking for a place to crash.

This is a great hotel with a terrific staff. It’s centrally located and very easy to get around downtown or by BC Transit. I would highly recommend staying here!

Great hotel with the best staff ever! Rooms were super clean, and the staff really goes out of their way to be helpful and take care of every request, no matter how small. The restaurant also has excellent staff, and the food was great. Would absolutely stay here again. Easy walking distance to the Empress and harbor area.

Hotels in Victoria is rather expensive, and I did not want to pay twice as much to stay in a Hilton property in Victoria BC. This one is down town alright. The hotel provides valet parking for a much higher rate, but if you happen to be checking in at the weekend, you can park in the street for free until Monday morning. We had no problem of finding street parking around the corner. Location is good, if you are taking the ferry from Port Angeles, it is a few minutes drive from the ferry terminal. It is within walking distance to the inner harbor, the parliament and Chinatown. The hotel’s room is very outdated, it is in need of upgrade and renovation. The service is ok, nothing stands out. The lobby is funny, you have to wheel your luggage around the back of the house to get to the elevator. There is a restaurant in-​house — Stone Throw, and I had not try it, because there are so many choices to eat around the property. By the way, the rate does not include breakfast. There is suppose to be a gym too, but I drove away in the early morning and had not tried the place.

They advertise rates on their website then refuse to honor them when you try to book. They offered me a rate that was $ 20 more a night than listed on their website, as a «special» rate to compensate for not giving me the rate on the website, and denied it said what it does on the website, though I had the page open right in front of me. When I pressed the issue, they transferred me to the front desk who left me on hold for an extended amount of time and then loudly hung up without even speaking to me. I think I dodged a bullet on this one, I’m sure I can find a hotel with some customer service skills, honesty, and integrity, all of which are lacking here.
8÷8÷13: I had sent an e-​mail to the manager of this hotel to tell him what happened. He never responded so I can only assume he endorses this behavior. In the mean time I found a higher rated hotel with much better rates and excellent customer service. And they honored their advertised rates *and* found me a better room to boot!

One of the girlfriends who I went to Victoria trip with found this hotel. It’s about 20 mins walking distance from the Victoria Clipper Terminal, a couple blocks away from Victoria Downtown, and just a block away from Chinatown. It’s a very convenient location.
Both my girlfriends got their rooms through either
or Expedia with price of $ 80 a night. I booked a little late through
and I paid about $ 20 more. However, instead of having just one bed in my room, I got two beds in a big room. Therefore, my room turned into a party room for girls night. It was great!
The room is very clean. There are two elevators but they shut down one between 11PM to 7AM. The area was quiet. At least, I didn’t hear any weird noise throughout the night while I stayed there. Most people probably don’t care about working out while being on vacation. But, I did pay attention to their amenity before I packed. They have a small fitness room with about 6 – 7 machines. Early in the morning, no one was using the room. I had the whole space myself. It was good.
Service was good. We arrived earlier than the check-​in time. The front desk was able to check us in early and let us put our luggage. When we checked out, they even provided us free water bottle to go. It thought it was quite nice!
If I go back again, I wouldn’t rule out staying there again.

Extremely friendly, helpful and wonderful staff.
Rooms are a little old and dated but clean, spacious and comfortable. If it’s warm, you’ll need to crank the AC up all the way. Our king suite included a kitchen with a stove and mini-​fridge. Not great if you want to cook an gourmet meal but perfect for heating up some food or making a quick snack.
Great value! Awesome location and just minutes to anywhere you want to get downtown. Best of all, Free parking, newspaper, bottled water and Wireless Internet!

Highlights:
1. Cheap compared to other venues in the same area
2. Great location to go downtown, or hop on the bus
3. Free wifi and bottled water (and yes, they give you more every day)
4. Friendly and helpful staff
5. Quiet (Is there a place in Victoria not quiet? =P)

I stayed there two nights ago and all I can say is their front desk staff were wonderful, the beds well I felt I was sleeping on a cloud. I’d like to say hello to Cheryl and Alicia at the front desk and they will continue to have my business when I need to spend the night in Victoria.

The Victoria Best Western is a completely standard, run-​of-​the-​mill hotel that serves its purpose for a place to sleep and shower. We received a free upgrade to a 2 BR suite and found the service excellent, but the room was dirty.
Good location to downtown dining, shopping, and the waterfront.

I travel a lot for work so I see my fair share of hotels. I usually have to stay in the more «budget» hotels… no Hilton for this princess unfortunately. I have been in many hit and miss places so I was a bit skeptical when informed I would be in a Best Western. To my delight it wasn’t half bad!!! The location was right downtown so close to shopping and food. my two favorite things to do on my down time!
The girl at the reception desk was very pleasant and checked me in super fast… valet was free since I book through Expedia. this was a total bonus I didn’t expect… and was available 24 hours a day.
To call an elevator you need to use your room card… love the extra security… and I was even offered help with my bags. which NEVER happens and you don’t think it will at a Best Western.
Now the room. it was clean. had all the typical elements such as coffee maker, bar fridge (with 2 bottles of COMPLEMENTARY water. who knew?) iron, hair dryer… you get the picture. The beds were decent. pillows a bit lack luster. and I had a lovely view of downtown.
The only minor complaints would be that the Internet wouldn’t work consistently and that the rooms were a bit warm… and when I opened a window the noise from the bar in the bottom of the hotel kept me up… but it did make from some fun people watching.
All in all a good hotel for a business trip. not where I would go for a «get away» retreat. but good for a get in and get out stay…
