Unbelievably good deals on spices. Never pay $ 5 – 7 for a typical spice jar when you can get the same for 25 – 50 cents.

Although some people have mentioned that this is good for large families or people who like to bake — I actually think that the Bulk Barn is even better for small families. They have bulk items… But you buy why you need. Although I like to make bread, since it’s just me and my husband and our dog we don’t need a million lbs of flour — we just go and get what the recipe calls for. Less waste and less pantry space devoted to rarely used ingredients. The same for spices. You just take a small amount and voila your spice rack is complete without the need to have 10+ large boxes hanging around getting stale. It’s also a great way to try new items without having to have a whole box of it. For example — I love quinoa, but hadn’t tried quinoa flakes. Being able to portion out a small amount saved me from buying a lot of an expensive product that I might not have liked.

Bulk Barn, you’re the most American concept ever. And you’re Canadian! I was in Victoria last year with my boyfriend for a weekend getaway and while walking to a restaurant for lunch we happened upon some large grand opening signs and balloons. The name itself made us wonder what the heck a Bu;k Barn was, and of course it’s exactly what you’d expect! You can find almost anything here… in bulk. Flour, peanuts, sprinkles, peas, beans, sugar, cat food, bird food, candy… you name it, they have it. It was quite shocking to see in person, but it’s also smart. Smart if you have a large family, if you have lots of pets, if you enjoy baking, if you’re hosting a party, etc. There are lots of reasons to shop here and the prices(because you buy in bulk) are really affordable. Be careful though! You’ll go for flour and end up buying candy and treats too.

Love me a good bulk buying fest. Picked up some Dark Chocolate OMGs that I have not been able to get in Vancouver recently, also some toasted coconut. I had to leave after only two aisles my eyes were starting to be bigger than my stomach. This location is new to me and is right by Douglas. There is all sorts off great stuff for bakers and cupcake makers, also some funny wedding cake toppers!
