I just found this place and it’s amazing! I just moved to Victoria from Vancouver and was really missing some nice ramen. I’m so glad now I can get my ramen-fit here! Great services and flexible menu options too

We walked into the place without knowing much about it. Anyplace that specializes in noodles and dumplings tend to be good in our experience. We were glad we found this place because all the things we tried were good. Miso Ramen had a great flavor. Curry noodle was tasty too. Hot and sour noodle soup had a similar flavor to Tom Yum soup, but better. We also loved Shanghai dumplings. We all agreed the noodle texture was one of the best. This may not be the most traditional Chinese noodle soup place, but flavors were exceptional.

Paid $ 10CAD for eight micro dumplings that were supposed to have soup inside. These were dry as a bone and the wrappers weren’t even torn so it wasn’t as if the soup leaked out. They just didn’t add any soup gel to them before cooking. The place was packed and the pot stickers were okay as was the won ton soup… both more juicy than the xia long bao!

Horrible restaurant!!! They«secretly» added a 15% gratuity without letting customers know. We had a party of 4 with one kid. We didn’t even get a receipt, they ran up the final tab and we paid at the till. We ended up tipping them 30% because NOWHERE on the menu does it say there was a charge, the waitress didn’t know either, and it was the owner that came out and«claimed» they always had a 15% policy. Stupid way of doing business, don’t mind tipping, but don’t like getting cheated!

We are from Vancouver and spoiled with high quality low cost Chinese food. This place is quite disappointing. The service is fine. Next time, I will avoid Chinese food in Victoria in general.

Great little spot. 4th generation making homemade noodles. Food was great spring rolls ok over cooked my husband and I shared spicy shrimp veggie noodles. Excellent large portion good to share. Only downside CASH or Debit. Since we are traveling our U.S. DEBIT card did not work. Bummer we had to go and find cash.

I previously worked as a SERVER at this place for over two weeks. Let me tell you something, the wontons and noodles(both for serving or sale) are frozen not fresh. They make them once a week and then freeze them, but the customers are told that those are fresh. No standards at this place at all. Once the chef dropped some pork onto the floor, but he continued to use it for gyoza and dumplings. The fridge was full of dust and they never clean it. The owners are incredibly stubborn, driven by money and don’t embrace change. The exchange rate for USD-CAD was 1 – 1 in the store and they always KEEP the SERVER’S TIPS! However, the customers don’t know that. I served 20 tables during Sunday’s lunch, but got 0 tips. I tried to tell them how the food industry works in north America, and then I got fired.

Cash only stinks, but for real the beef Stir-Fried Udon Noodles are some of the best I’ve tasted! I wish I was eating them right now. Waitstaff was friendly, and I’ll forgive them for giving me a fork, haha! Affordable and delicious!

ok food. But terrible service! Had lunch there with friends. My waiter forgot my order. Waiting in restaurant for 40min for nothing. in the end, the bill comes with a fixed tip and no one apologized for their mistake.

We came from the San Francisco Bay Area along the coast and by the time we reached Canada, had a strong yearning for Chinese Food. One in our party wanted Hot and Sour Soup and hence, we went to this restaurant which had hot and sour noodles. It appeared to be a hole-in-the-wall and it really was. Not real clean, and the décor experienced better days. The waitress was pleasant by American standards although not so good by Canadian standards. She did understand Chinese(I forget whether Cantonese or Mandarin) The restaurant gave me a feeling of nostalgia which was kind of neat. The stairs to the restroom were difficult to navigate for the younger people in our group(20’s) as the steps were steep and narrow. The ceiling at the top of the stairs was low clearance(Mind your head) although height-impaired me did not have difficulty. The feeling and the smells reminded me of my childhood in buildings in San Francisco around a century old. Alas the restroom had been remodeled around the 1960’s, at least based on the color of the commode and sink. Then again, I am almost a sextagenarian, so probably a generation beyond most Unilocalers who may lack this sense of nostalgia. Unfortunately, the hot and sour broth was neither hot nor sour an appeared to be some generic broth. I ordered the Teriyaki Beef which was sparse with the beef(3 small slices?(but understandable — beef is expensive in Canada)) with a little dribble of bland sauce. Vegetables, except the bean sprouts were all western(carrots and broccoli — not real bok choy). The noodle soups tasted closer to Vietnamese Phở than Chinese. We also ordered juicy buns which was supposed to be xiao long boa(excuse the spelling) and fried gyoza(potstickers). Both were very small and had the same filling and the filling tasted old. We heard very good things about Chinese food in Vancouver, but unfortunately, it does not translate well in Victoria, which, at least in our experience has tourist food designed for tourist palates(We had Indian Chaat at a different place which was mixed with tortilla chips!). If you want authenticity, this is the wrong city to dine in. We plan to come back next year, and I charge fellow Unilocalers to find some authentic food. Prove me wrong — that’s a challenge! When queried, the others in our party agreed that it was an interesting experience, but to go back … no.

I would say that this is a one star place but for the amazing old school Chinese décor and a trying waitress, I will give it two stars. It first says that it has famous authentic HK style won ton noodles soup– it does not. It isn’t even the right noodles to start with. The chef comes from Hk? That doesn’t mean he can make the authentic ones. I am Canadian and I don’t even know if I can make authentic Canadian poutine. And the wonton was not the authentic HK style wonton with the longer tail. The washroom is actually something worth for you to go into this restaurant. It leads you up to this narrow tall staircase upstairs and just makes you think you are in some horror movie. It is exciting and scary at the same time. Nothing bad, it is clean, but reminds me that I am in a movie. I do recommend the shanghai buns as they are good but not the best, but pretty decent and bite sized. I have heard that the beef noodles are good so I will give them a chance next time as well. Come and check it out yourselves, but don’t order the won ton noodles. Other than that, the décor is something worth coming to.

I came here for lunch. The restaurant was full and I understand why. Though the service was slowish, it was well worth it. I had the spicy curry chicken soup. It was amazing. They got the spice just right. Coming from a small town in Washington there isn’t a lot of good food and this was a great find while wondering around China town.

3.5÷5, +.5 for service Not sure about the stubborn chef as I never saw the chef himself while inside, but this place was definitely a pleasant surprise that certainly deserves the 4-star rating it has right now. I arrived at around 2pm and the place was about half full. There was only 1 waitress, but she managed to coordinate the restaurant quite well. We ordered the miso ramen and the coconut chicken noodle, after reading rave reviews about it. The miso ramen arrived first, and I definitely agree that it had one of the best presentations I’ve seen, and the miso broth was also very well done. The noodles were slightly soggy, which led to some absorption of the broth, but it ended up not being a huge deal. The coconut chicken noodle actually used the same noodle as the ramen, and the broth definitely had the distinct coconut taste. I somewhat wish the bowl was less of a giant plate, because the size was quite large, yet the ingredients weren’t so. Washrooms are in the second floor, and are quite family-oriented with the private booths. However I had to press the flush handle quite hard in order for the toilet to flush. Service was excellent the entire time I was there. For Victoria standards, this place is definitely a must-try for those visiting the city.

My family and I came here last summer to get some lunch before we headed over to the clipper. We had three hours before we had to be there. Since our favourite place, the BBQ Bakery was closed, we decided to try out Kyu Noodles. It was the worst service I’ve ever had. We were sat down at an unwiped table. It took half an hour for our orders to be taken. Then a group of 6 – 8 that seemed to know the owners. They were seated and place their orders right away. 20 minutes later they get their food. No sign of ours. We wait another 40MINUTES until we get our food. A couple bowls of wonton soup and an order of pot stickers for the sister. The food was inedible. The broth was salty to the point of gagging, noodles cooked to mush, and my sister said the potstickers didn’t taste right. We left for a 3+ hour boat ride starving, with a food poisoned sister. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back here. In fact I glare at the shop every time is walk past. Take your money elsewhere, like McDonalds.

Some of the best gyuza I’ve tasted outside Japan. Delicate and subtle. Grilled just enough. The shrimp hot and sour soup was very filling. Service was attentive and with a lot of smiles.

My wife and I came here in 2009. The food was really good but I’ll never forget how sleepy this food made us. We were only in town for one night and after we ate here we fell asleep at 12 noon and woke up at 6pm, barely made it out to check torn out then fell asleep all night. I’m guessing some serious msg. But food was really good

I ordered the wonton soup. It was good, but over priced. Came with only 8 wontons and no BBQD pork or veggies in the broth. The bill came to $ 10 after tax and tip, which is a bit high for what they were giving. Either beef up to soup or decrease the price.

I was on the hunt for good juicy pork dumplings… but left a little disappointed. They were too thick which made them kind of tough and were not very juicy. The flavor was ok. We also had noodles that were also just ok. If you are really craving dumplings, I kyu noodles may satisfy your craving but there are definitely better dumpling houses out there.

I came here specifically for the Xiaolongbao(juicy pork dumplings, which they call«buns») and was disappointed. They had thick, hard shells that were quite gummy, and the pork was kind of a puck with no real juice to be had. I would expect this quality from a food court for $ 5.99, not a sit-down restaurant with such a good reputation. The server was nice enough, and to be fair I didn’t try any of the other noodles. After the xiaolongbao I didn’t want to. I’m not sure if I just had a bad batch, but was surprised that I Kyu had such good reviews. I won’t be going back.
