Got in with a few friends just after they opened, its a quiet place early on but after 12 it gets very busy. A very interesting cross section of clientele, and a great way to spend an evening.

Small but classic Victoria bar. the prices are pretty average for a beer(in the $ 5 to $ 7 range). It’s not for everyone as it can be a bit loud and there’s often a live band meaning but for a night out with friends and some good music … it’s definitely a go-to.

I was a little surprised when I came here because it scores a four star review. However, when I found myself here on a Thursday night around 11pm-12 am, it was dead. I mean really dead, I was the only one there! The bartenders kept trying to convince me that it would pick up, but there was nothing. The alcohol selection is pretty standard. Paid $ 5 for draft which was reasonable. That being being said, I wasn’t feeling the tunes that were being cranked out. I sure this place might appeal to some people, but not for me. I have been to my share of clubs and bars, but just wasn’t feeling it here. Maybe its just me or this one time. However, I don’t see any reason to ever come back.

There was a time in my life where I loved Lucky. 90s night, live music, cheap drinks. It was the place to be, and in fact I would have given it maybe even four stars. This last weekend was appalling. I had guests visiting and I had wanted to go out dancing, after thinking about the options in the city, consulting the internet and some friends I decided Lucky would provide the best entertainment. First of all, I forgot that people don’t go anywhere until 1130 and then when they do they all arrive at the same time to be loud, sweaty, douche bags. It’s like I misread the law or something. The music was appalling. I actually caught myself asking my friend at one point«do you think bad DJs know they are bad» the answer is no. They don’t. The awful repetitive music and sweaty, meathead dance floor made me want to crawl into a hole and sleep. Maybe my standards have changed, or maybe I was in a bad mood, but I would say, don’t go to Lucky on a Saturday unless you’re 19, love Ed Hardy and have no interest in actually dancing to anything while drinking PBR… or Lucky. I will say, I gave it two stars because I know in the past I have really enjoyed myself, this time I did not and it was enough to make me not want to go again, but trust yourself…

Why does lucky not have more reviews? Lucky is classic Victoria! Best place to check out local bands, best place to rock out without being too fancy, but there are also a lot of wierdos here(actually everywhere in Victoria). They have great music and the people there are always fun!

After going to shows at two terrible venues(Sugar Nightclub and Element), I nearly gave up on finding good indoor clubs for live music. But I decided to bite when the Japandroids came back to town and went. And while the venue is both narrow and deep, it’s not too difficult to see the band no matter where you end up standing. But the best part about Lucky is that they serve good beer on tap at a reasonable price(4.25 a pint) — I might even drink here on a night without a show.
