I found reception to be generally nice but occasionally when I want more detail about something, clarification, or just to repeat what was discussed to make sure I got the pertinent info some of the reception staff seemed to show impatience bordering annoyance. A bit of patience with a worried and nervous doggie parent would be appreciated when her pup is ill. Questions that they didn’t know how to answer were only referred to a vet maybe ¼ times. Kinda felt like pulling teeth for records. Needed something on paper saying my dog was spayed but said she couldnt help me since the procedure was done at another clinic (even though records from previous clinic indicate this and it is indicated on her electronic record). Had to stay on the phone and suggest ideas (send me the electronic record, fax me the old record from the previous vet etc). Finally she agreed to send me the electronic record. Made me feel very reluctant to ask questions or access own pet’s info.
Veterinarians were always excellent to deal with. Knowledgeable, Gentle kind and patient with my very nervous dog. Prompt after hours service and thorough follow up. Awesome that the clinic participates in charity work (animal rescue).

It is an honour to have my dogs and cats under the care of Dr. Maccartney and his terrific staff for the past 20 years. They get first rate attention there with this friendly and talented staff. Keep up the great work!

I have been a customer of McKenzie vet for about 25 years. Their services are amazing and their prices are very fair. Over the years I have never had one complaint about their services and I recommend them to all of my friends and family. I am now on dog number three and have senior cat that they provide services for.
McKenzie Vet goes beyond in service. When my previous dog had to have a couple of surgeries I was only charged for the service of the surgery and was never charged for complications from her breaching stitches and needing extra care and medical supplies. They are wonderful.
Both of my adult children now take their pets there and I hope my grandchildren will continue our family relationship.
I have read the negative reviews about their service and it really bothers me that again on Unilocal only negative reviews show on the front page. Unilocal has done the same to my business. Unilocal rating system does not work. The one review is from a person who has never used their service and the other one is from one customer who had a sick animal who had a bad incident. This is the best veterinary clinic in Victoria and one of the best in our province. They have a lot of very satisfied customers and anyone I know who uses their services highly recommends them. Unilocal should be less of a negative system and should start posting positive reviews from actual customers on the front pages of the reviews. Shame on you Unilocal and McKenzie Vet you are the best!

clinic has treated my animals were over 30 years unlike previous poster who has NO knowledge of clinic. despite this one unfortunate incident they will continue to do so. excellent care of both owner and pets. understanding of financial issues etc. definitely would recommend them to friends and family. I would like to know why some one would go to all the trouble of leaving nasty comment unless they have an axe you grind or have been asked to do so by someone involved in the lawsuit
who just wants revenge.

I admit that I have never been to this clinic, but I just read a CBC News article regarding an incident that occurred here. As a dog owner, I wanted to alert others of what happened. The details I have are based on the article only.
This is my summary of what occured: An epileptic dog had a seizure while caged and alone that left him paralyzed. The owner was told by the vet that the dog needed to be kept for observation after exploratory surgery. The dog was last checked at 10 pm and then discovered having a full-​blown seizure 9.5 hours later the next morning. The owner assumed that someone would be watching the dog overnight but this was not the case. The dog became paralyzed as a result of the incident. The dog also had cancer and died three months later but the results of the exploratory surgery were not released to the dog’s new vet until three months later. The dog later died and the case was settled in court.
This is an unfortunate incident, and I hope that other pet owners will be cautious in where they take their pets for veterinary care.
