The crab meat salad was terrible! I felt sick about it. The seafood wasn’t that fresh. The flavour was okay, but not worth the price I paid. Don’t recommend. There is better and cheaper place in town.

I’ve had better quality sushi at other all-you-can-eat restaurants. AND this place is a little pricier than the other restaurants. Save your money and go somewhere else!

I was impressed by the look of the restaurant and how spacious it was. Service was great, the ordering on iPads makes things simple and the soup/salad bar which is included was a nice compliment to the sushi. The food itself is satisfying, but I have had better before. Overall I think it’s a great restaurant for the price and will return at some point.

This is my second favourite sushi restaurant in Waterloo. The only thing that drops this down to a 4 star review is that their rolls are subpar in comparison to the rolls at other sushi restaurants in the area. However, the superior quality of their sashimi and nigiri makes up for this. A great place to eat!

Their sides are truely good but that’s it… rolls or sashimi is not that great. depends on whats your priority… the salad bar is good.

I ate lunch there today off their dinner menu. The food was comparable to their Mississauga restaurant. The soup and salad bar is quite nice and the ipad menu is easy to use. The interior design is attractive. My quibbles are minor. The sauce with the beef tataki could be improved and the clam chowder soup was just so so. service was excellent. I liked the fresh sashimi and the shrimp items from the kitchen. I will certainly return the next time I am in the K/W area.

This place manages to butcher every type of Asian cuisine. Menu includes a combination of poorly made manchu-wok dishes and low quality sushi. Their chefs got really creative and created a series of disgusting fushion dishes like banana + bbq eel + avocado sushi roll and bulgogi roll. The wait time is ridiculous on the weekend. The server told us it was 15 minute wait for a party of three, but we ended up waiting for over an hour.

I went here with my roommate a few weeks ago for lunch. We usually go to Itamae on King and University, but decided to change it up that day. What a mistake. The restaurant looked really nice, and if I were judging by the décor and atmosphere, it would get a 10⁄10. The service was also amazing. Every server we talked to was polite and helpful. My only complaint was that I got charged $ 3 for a(terrible) hot chocolate without warning, although the server did apologize for forgetting to inform me the drinks on the AYCE menu were not free(it didn’t even have the price listed, unlike Itamae!). I chalked it up to a human mistake and paid the $ 3 anyway. Whatever. Why I’m giving this place 1⁄5 stars is not for that one mistake, which I’m sure was an isolated incident. I’m giving this place 1⁄5 stars because the food was terrible! Every single thing we got was lukewarm, at best. The cheese wontons were cold. The fried sushi rolls were cold AND tasteless. And the food from the buffet was not fresh(but I can’t expect fresh food from a buffet). The only thing that was decent, I found, were the handrolls. Not too much rice, and loaded with spicy salmon. I would be almost tempted to come back just for those handrolls. Maybe the food was so crappy because I went to lunch on a weekday, so it wasn’t prepared right away? Maybe one day I’ll come back again for dinner and give this place another chance. But judging from my experience that one afternoon, I’d have to say that this place — for the price — was subpar.

This is definitely the best AYCE restaurant in kW region I have been to. It serves the various food and drinks. Including sushi, Chinese dim sums, Korean food Thai food and some of the Asia signature food. All of them are delicious. It even have the shaved ice! Which is one of my favourite desserts in China. There are many self-served ingredients for the shaved ice. Also the ice cream are very delicious, there are many flavours. All of them are delicious. The whole place is very bright and big, which makes the meal very enjoyable. Because of the huge place, there are many seats so that u don’t need to wait for a long period. The washroom is clean and nice. There are both hand wash and mouth wash liquid there. And some hair mouse. The mirror is very clean. The service is good. After order, we can get the food within few minutes. It’s very fast. And the empty plates will be collected in a few minutes.

At the end of last term, we brought as much of our class here as could come. We ended up with 40+ people seated at a bunch of tables lined up, with a few iPads distributed across the tables to order from. There were so many of us that I don’t mind the service being a little scattered, especially given that apparently 2 servers that were supposed to be on our area were sick that day so we had 1 guy for all of us. The food was pretty good for AYCE sushi. No complaints. Overall this is a pretty cool place that I’d be happy to go back to.

Loved the variety of sushi available coupled with the quick and efficient service that really defined the whole experience. Sushi was really fresh and every dish was on point! The toilets were pretty posh, complete with moisturizer, hair spray and towels. You can even customise your own Bingsu with ice cream, sauces or jellies for dessert after having the mains. My first ayce experience and I am looking forward to more!

Good food quality. Relatively quick serving speed. The salad bar has a pretty good seaweed and miso soup. The crab leg is also pretty fresh. They order using iPad, pretty unique. Pretty busy on weekend night. Sometimes I got frustrated of waiting and decided to go for Korean food xD

Recently came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and our experience was overall pretty good! Our server was great and super friendly — when we told her that it was our friend’s birthday, she brought out a little cake with a lighted candle near the end, which I thought was very thoughtful.(Btw, birthday girl/boy gets the meal at half-price!) And when we brought in an ice cream cake for him that we bought next door at DQ, she made sure to give us all the necessary plates and utensils to go with it. All this at no extra cost, of course! The great plus about this place is the salad/ice cream bar they have near the middle of the restaurant. It even has bingsu(also called shaved ice) which is a DIY type of cold dessert where you can go crazy on the toppings, haha. You order your food from the iPad set on the table, which is always nice. The dishes aren’t out of this world, but then again, what do you expect from an all-you-can-eat, right? The layout of the restaurant was open and friendly, and the interior designing was quite fancy and nice(especially the bathrooms!!!). I’d recommend coming here for a casual date/chill night when you want to stuff yourself with sashimi and rolls, hehe.

Worst customer I have ever experienced. The waitresses were EXTREMELY rude to us, it felt like they were pissed off or something. When we asked to refill our water it took at least 10 minutes for them to do so. The food here is not as good as expected. If the service was bad but the food is good, it’ll make up for it. However at this location, the food was bad, but the service is EVENWORSE. I’ve been to many 168 sushi in the GTA and this location has disappointed me because I usually love 168 sushi restaurants. When we got the bill, the same waitress who was extremely rude to us charged us for dinner instead of lunch. We went in for lunch around 1:30, but apparently the hostess gave us the wrong menu, but we didn’t know and ordered from it thinking it was the lunch menu. we only ordered like 2 things from the dinner menu, but they refuse to charge us for lunch and insisted that since you ordered dinner food items we have to charge you for dinner. A lunch for 3 that was supposed to cost around $ 60 ended up being $ 90, including tax that’s like $ 110. WHATTHEHECK168SUSHI!!! I ABSOLUTELYHATETHISPLACE.

Really weird service. We had three for dinner. Two dishes were bad and we did not eat them. At the end of the meal they were left over. As expected they wanted us to pay for them. I said sure charge me if you want but the dishes were not good. START: 10 minutes of guilt and shaming and accusations like: — if you let it sit it won’t be any good — aggressively: if you want it crispy I will go in the kitchen and watch over them to make sure it is crispy — you didn’t need to cover the dish, it makes me feel bad Oh it went on. They also spilled fish soup in two drinks and two dishes when they put it in the table(I don’t like seafood) and were pretty rude about that too. Several dishes inedible by me(friends ate em) because they were too oily. We had to call them over to accept the iPad orders and to refill drinks. My friend said the last two times he was there service was better. Pretty bad experience!

The selection and food here is actually pretty good. They have dim sum which is a +1 for me. Also, as others mentioned, you have to check out the washroom. However, what really blew me away was their service. My friend is a vegetarian, and the manager was really accommodating. When we put in our orders with the iPad, she ensured that all the vegetarian dishes and rolls would be cooked/prepared separately from the fish, and without any fish oil or eggs.

One of the newer places that opened in Waterloo. It’s close to campus, has good sushi, but also offers a variety of Asian food from steam buns to phở. The décor is classy, and the restaurant combines a mix of traditional self-serve buffet with iPad ordering menus. They also offer a decent selection on their drinks menu if you have a bit more money to spend, but I think the best part about this restaurant is that they have excellent service. My friends and I have been treated well every time we went. Our server’s name was Tony and he was probably one of the most diligent servers we’ve ever seen. Props to this place :)

«What a nice day for sushi,» we thought as we were driving for lunch. We were sadly mistaken after a poor experience to say the least. Don’t get me wrong, the food was magnificent. The bacon wrapped crab was exceptional and the Green Dragon roll has the perfect combination of creamy avocado and crispy panko crust. The sushi rolls were well prepared and tasted delicious. The General Tso chicken was surprisingly well done, however was garnished with one leaf of lettuce… odd. The salad bar was the definition of mediocrity, and the dipping sauces from some items came noticeable late. The service was lacking. Food was delivered relatively quickly however our water was filled maybe once and other requests were slow. Only 3 of our party of 4 ate, however the server was insistent on charging all of us full price. Needles to say we were displeased. The worst part was the servers unwillingness to understand the situation, and lack of sympathy for the matter. On the way out there were mints and jelly beans available, however we had to help ourselves instead of being offered them by the extra member of staff who was standing around doing nothing. I took both a few mints and a pinch of jelly beans. Be warned, the jelly beans were the gross booger flavoured kind. Overall experience was a 4.5÷10

In a nutshell, the washroom, salad bar and service are the only positives I can mention about this place. The sushi is downright abysmal. Where should I start? There is twice as much rice as you should get on the rolls, the green dragon roll is mostly rice and cucumber(the shrimp in it is barely there), the spicy tuna roll had no tuna, just tempura batter, they use too much mayonnaise and the fish taste is completely lost among the other ingredients, that is, if you can see the fish. The sushi quality at Ye’s is a 100 times better than here and this should tell you everything you need to know about this place. Although my experience came only after one lunch, i’m not wondering if i should give it another try…

The interior design of Sushi 168 is really nice! They have a central table area where you can get salad/soup/ice cream and to my delight, BINGSU!(I definitely went overboard with my first attempt at making bingsu haha. My inner bubble tea passion exploded at the sight of unlimited pandan jelly and popping bob and I put way too much syrup and jelly.) The remainder of the food you can order on an iPad(similar to Itame’s). Sushi 168 has a huge variety of foods — Korean, Thai, Japanese and Chinese. We ended up trying a bit of everything except for the dim sum(no one was really in the mood for that). The Thai curry was okay, you could tell that they cooked it with the Thai curry sauce you can buy off the shelf. We got ddeokbokki from the Korean menu which was really good and authentic, and I have literally no complaints about any of the Chinese/Japanese things we ordered. I particularly enjoyed the seafood udon, Katsu Chicken, beef on a stick and the cheese wontons. They didn’t really have a lot of interesting sushi rolls that also tasted good. We tried a bunch of them, including the Las Vegas roll, the gym roll, and the fruit roll(made entirely of, you got it, fruit) but nothing really stood out. I feel like this is where Sushi 168 lacks in comparison to places like Kinkaku. However, all the traditional rolls and single sushi were made and tasted well. Presentation was good and service was quick! There is a variety of sashimi available, I only ate the salmon, white tuna and surf clam so I can only comment on the quality of those which is that it was good(nothing too special but also not un-tasty). Overall this place deserves good rating! It’s super close to campus and if you pay with cash, you get a 5% discount.

This is the newest AYCE sushi restaurant in Waterloo. Interior is beautiful with quartz tables and modern décor. Food is excellent and service is quick. Prices are very reasonable. Desserts and salads are set up as a buffet. Washrooms are clean and they even offer mouthwash and dental floss which is great if you’re going back to work afterwards. The iPad menu is helpful. There’s also a separate bar area with big screen TV.

Food is great here. You’d never expect that ordering phở at a sushi place was a great idea, but here its great. Service is a bit slow, but its mainly because they have a reliance on their iPad menu, which is neat. Salad bar is nice, the desserts are sub par however. Didn’t get a chance to try the shaved ice maker, but that looks really neat. Not much else to add, this restaurant hits it pretty well on the mark, just the slow service got me slightly. But 5⁄5 because of the washroom, you gotta see it yourself. Apparently there’s a sit down bar inside, I’m not sure what function that might have if the community doesn’t exactly flock to this place, but is neat. I think that have plenty of attractions for people celebrating parties, because I think I saw a karaōke room.

They have a DIY shaved ice machine here! I’m a fan. Really really nice looking restaurant. They nailed the décor and it looks amazing. All of the sushi and rolls were great. However, some of their other dishes weren’t so good like their beef kalbi, which was very salty and shrimp tempura. Their service was top notch. The food came out really fast and they were super friendly. They even gave us a handful of jelly beans on the way out! I hope the place continues to be this good in the long run.

Rarely would I rate a buffet place 5⁄5 This place is amazing, both in terms of food and also in terms of the environment. When we came in we were greeted by a friendly waitress who offered to take us around and introduced us to the place and their offerings. The place is huge, bright, and nicely renovated, a huge contrast from Kinkaku that I recently went. They have a large soup, salad, and dessert bar. You get to order from a ipad which is great because you get to see how big the portion is and what’s inside the dish. They food came within 5 mins which I’m pleasantly surprised. Good orders for lunch: udon, short ribs, unagi sushi, sakura sushi(lots of salmon), crab meat wrapped with bacon, pudding cups, and shaved ice. The service was awesome as well. The place is heavily staffed, and the waiters regularly collected our empty dishes and filled up our water. I have already recommended tons of people to come try out this place because I’m blown away by the amazing service. PS. They have a group lounge that can fit 60 people with a karaōke bar

Impressive soft opening. Didn’t go for the all you can eat, and decided to test the quality straight up by getting the sashimi sampler. Did not disappoint. Great value at $ 19.95 for 26 pieces including 4 slices of super buttery tender hamachi. The fish was very fresh, and the knife work was quite delicate. The only exception was the ahi tuna, which was a little dry and sinewy for some reason. Service was attentive, and the waitresses seemed really concerned that I wouldn’t be satisfied with just the sashimi boat and really tried to convince me to go for the ayce! Really clean trendy place, with lots of room for bigger groups. Keep up the freshness, and I just might show up a couple times more!

tl;dr Good sushi close to campus, but price $$$! — Sushi168 is a sushi chain with a new location in Waterloo. It’s primarily an AYCE sushi restaurant, but is an upscale variation with a variety of Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Cantonese Dim Sum, etc. foods with a large karaōke lounge and a bar also on-site. Service: As they had just opened, I found that service was quite good for an AYCE sushi place. There were lots of staff on hand, including many that just stood around watching all the tables. The salad bar buffet was kept very clean and orderly the entire time we were there. They were very fast at removing empty plates and refilling drinks, and I noticed that there was constantly workers replenishing the salad bar area. You’re given a brief tour of the restaurant if it’s your first time. I do wish they’d tell us what the roll was as they place it on the table, like they do at Kinkaku. Unfortunately, our table did receive things that we did not order(eg. a California roll!), and a waitress said they’d replace our soy sauce but never actually did so. I get the impression that there are different levels of wait staff depending on ability, since telling one waitress that we didn’t order the california roll prompted ‘deer-in-headlights’ look and one of the waitresses standing around moved in quickly to resolve it. The presentation of the maki was simple and good unlike other cheaper places where the ends are rough and rushed; the ratio of fish/filling to rice was good for most maki(eg. Salmon roll, salmon/avocado roll), however the special maki had too much cucumber in it. The taste of the sushi maki was average. This is one of the few places where I’ve had a crabmeat cheese wonton be consistently hot throughout, compared to most places that microwave them. The grilled salmon belly wasn’t that great, most likely because of the cut of the fish wasn’t that good, and the kalbi beef was neither juicy nor tender. They have a selection of desserts that haven’t been seen before. A shaved ice machine, as well as syrups(eg. mango, lychee, kiwi, condensed milk, chocolate, bubble tea toppings(fruit balls, tapioca, jelly)) were a great way to end the meal. They also have different mousse cakes and mango yoghurt/pudding. I recommend the shaved ice with lots of condensed milk… but watch out because the warm bowls and syrup will melt the shaved ice quickly! The price is high, at $ 15.95 for a weekday buffet lunch. There is a 5% cash discount. Only accepted are cash and credit, no debit.
