Just meh. Really generic Asian fast food. They do have complimentary soup which is nice. The beef casserole is about the same quality as the place next door(about same price too). One big plus is that they’re open much later than other sit-down places in the plaza.

Food is the opposite of fresh. It’s open late though and it’s quite cheap.

I usually order the chili chicken here which is not bad. Portion sizes and prices are fair for the plaza standards. However, I am very skeptic about the cleanliness of the place…

Decent Chinese food with decent bubble tea. Nothing special or overly delicious about their food, but the food is exactly what you would expect of cheap Chinese food, except they’re not that cheap. Also, the restaurant is poorly renovated so I usually get takeout. The food is made very quickly. For takeout, you have to wait for at most 10 minutes, if not only 5 minutes. They’re open very late — past midnight– but if you go too late, some of the popular items on the menu might not be available, but it’s always one or two ingredients that they can switch out for something else.

The service was non existent and the food is very average in all regards. I always order chili chicken when I have the chance in hopes for some authentic hakka chili chicken but this search was unfruitful. And I ended up with a pretty average spicy chicken dish. The have little animé girls everywhere, so if you’re into that I guess they have that going for them.

Food is okay. The fact that they offer Bubble Tea is probably one of the main selling points of eating here. The interior is well-spaced and clean, with a combination of North American and Eastern pop music playing in the background. Items are pretty cheap and fair for what you’re eating. Not a place I would recommend to others, but not a place that I would mind eating either.

I don’t get why so many people here say it’s a bad place. Personally I think this is one of the best Chinese sit down restaurant walking distance from U Waterloo. The menu has many choices, taste is decent, and the dishes are fairly priced.

Ended up here because several other places were closed for holidays to reopen Sept 2. Disappointing meal to say the least. The hot and sour soup was neither hot nor sour. The Xin Jiang chicken wasn’t nearly as good as the one at Waterloo Star and the portion was smaller. There are better alternatives in the plaza.

0 stars, honestly. Not worth going considering there are other better, similar alternatives in the UW Plaza such as Sogo and Waterloo Star. I used to like this place before they changed owners(or renovated), but not anymore. Reasons for 0 stars 1. Subpar food, compared to its competitors mentioned above. Some friends had diarrhea, but I didn’t. Food that could’ve been saltier was watery. Dishes that could have used less salt was salty enough for me not want to bring home the leftovers. Bubble tea served here is beyond watery — the drink itself and tapioca aren’t sweetened. Minimal ice cubes added. Not sure if it was water or crafted drink. 2. Sketchy interior. I can see the vegetables and frozen meat and tofu boxes in the fridge, facing me. It’s great to know that they’re using unfrozen ingredients and stuff, but this really undermines the whole purpose of their renovation. Exposing things like that really worsens the restaurant atmosphere to a warehouse environment. 3. Atrocious service quality. I know this is expected from a Chinese restaurant run by Chinese owners, but seriously, the shitty service is real. This is shown by one experience where I had brought food from another restaurant. Yes, indeed, it was my fault, but I sure as hell did not deserve to be told to «get out.» The tone in the server’s voice was devoid of politeness. No words like«sorry,» «please,» or «thank you,» just«this is store policy.» Even though this incident was my wrongdoing, a customer should not be treated like this. For the reasons above, you’re better off spending your money elsewhere.

I love Hong Kong cuisine, it’s my comfort food. Food is pretty consistent and they have a very extensive menu. However, because of its location at the university plaza, most of the customers are students. This is great if you fit the younger age group, but can get awkward if you don’t.

I go here a lot. Food is pretty good. Obviously you can find better food elsewhere like TORONTO, but definitely still good. Food gets served pretty fast too. And like the other reviewers pointed out, their bubble tea… isn’t that great. Sweat Dreams is much better

I liked the interior before they renovated. Oh well. At least there’s TV to watch now(mainly Chinese and Korean music videos). The food at Bubble Tease summarized in 1 word: really saucy. Not exactly strong, salty sauce, but really watery. Portions are good though. Popular dishes are egg drop beef, chili chicken, twice cooked bacon(extremely fatty but extremely good), ground pork on rice, satay beef, singapore fried noodles, satay chicken, braised pork/lamb, cantonese noodles, and shanghai noodles. The ironic thing is that their bubble tea isn’t even that good. Their real fruit shakes are pretty decent though. Their service is pretty decent. They are VERY fast if you are just taking to go. It’s also the only restaurant open past 12pm in the plaza; so it does get a little more crowded but it’s not that noticeable. It’s also nice that they have large round tables for groups of 8+. It’s definitely a great place to just have a nice meal with friends.

This is one of my favorite restaurants around the university plaza. Their food is flavorful and tastes consistent(and don’t taste like they all use the same sauce), and price is really cheap with good portions! This is my go to place for lunch or dinner after class. They also have some great vegetable dishes. Atmosphere is very university-student-like and homey, really quick service. Bubble tea’s not that great though wouldn’t recommend it. Some favorites are girdled duck, chili chicken, celery with dried tofu, lamb with rice. They used to have this glass noodle with pork and preserved vegetables soup dish which i really liked, but for some reason they stopped making it… :/
