I haven’t been to Orange Monkey in a while, but I have had a lot of good experiences there. A few things to warn the newbies of: 1. Their hours are very flexible… if it says they’re open at 10, be prepared to wait until 10:15. 2. Be prepared to dig. Just because something isn’t where you’re looking doesn’t mean they don’t have it. Selection of obscure goodies is good. Will special order hand tofind stuff for you. Vince and Charles know their stuff. Vinyl selection is really good. I recall finding the Metallica 5 record set«The 5 ½ Year Anniversary Set» there and not buying it. Never seen it again.

The people who run this store are awesome, and I can’t think of a time I’ve walked out without finding out about a cool band I’ve never heard before. If I didn’t think it’d creep them out, I’d deliver Charles and Vince(?) a bag of fresh bagels to express my appreciation of their presence. Their used section is worth trolling for some extremely delicious finds, and at pretty cheap prices too. If you’re into cheap vinyl, this place is a godsend. Sadly, my one beef is that their new stuff is rather expensive compared to amazon, that behemoth to beat in the cheap physical music market. This includes HMV/Sunrise fare. So you can find stuff that those stores would never stock, but it will cost you a bit of premium. Mind you, maybe you’d consider their role as independent music store and ticket stall of Waterloo a worthy thing to amortize costs over.
