Hubby and I came here close to opening hours on the last day of our weekend in Wellington. We had tried to come here a few times in the days prior but somehow never passed by during café hours as they are only open between 7am and 3pm. The Tall Poppy Café draws you in with its bright red painted poppies on the front windows and colourful signage. The wooden furniture, eclectic art, and metallic decorative ceiling lend a coziness to this space. I was eager to try some of their in-house baked gluten free treats, as well as their direct trade organic coffee. Hubby ordered a small blueberry muffin and London Fog. I ordered a soy mocha latte and a gluten free lemon tart. The Mocha was great: not too sweet, rich from the soy milk, but dark and chocolatey. The London Fog was also pretty good(unfortunately hubby failed to stir it and got all the sugar at the bottom). We both enjoyed the blueberry muffin as it was soft and really moist. Honestly the gluten free lemon tart was just as delicious as any non-gluten free lemon tart and my tummy was very happy after downing the whole tart in one sitting. $ 3.50 for the gluten free lemon tart is a very reasonable price for what would be considered a specialty /premium item elsewhere. 3.5 stars based on our breakfast takeout experience and quality of the food and beverages. If you’re looking for a great local café with a conscience, Tall Poppy Café is a must visit locale when you’re in Prince Edward County.

Passed by this cute café and decided to be have lunch. Our server was very attentive and friendly, food was tasty and we left satisfied. Overall a very pleasant experience, would recommend this to others who’s looking for a casual and nice spot for breakfast and lunch.

If you want slow service and overpriced mediocre food, then go here. We waited an hour for eggs and toast. I’d understand if it was busy, but it wasn’t. The omelette was bland, and I was left hungry. Servers don’t even bring you coffee. Not worth the wait at all. The only saving grace is that the servers are friendly.

Although there are some redeemable qualities about this quaint little breakfast café, I would be hard-pressed to recommend visiting after our experience. Our two egg breakfasts with toast & sliced fruit took nearly an hour getting to our table, the coffee is self-serve, and the cost was above average for a ‘classic diner’ menu item. Unfortunately, we ended up leaving with some lingering hunger pangs. On the good side though, the interior is quite charming, the service was friendly, and their baked goods were on point.

Yes, this is a great breakfast spot. We came in at around 9 am this morning(Saturday) and there was a very small crowd, but plenty of seats left. We ordered the fruit with granola/yogurt and the buttermilk pancakes with bacon. Each plate was under $ 10. It is very rare that a restaurant gets the serving size, but Tall Poppy did it perfectly! We left without feeling gross-full and we didn’t feel hungry. Apart from that, the food was really good. My pancakes were fluffy with a hint of butter. The bacon was crisp, without being overly crisp. My partners granola had a really great taste to it and the meal included a wild blueberry sauce that was tasty. The only mediocre aspect was the service. Not overly friendly, but it was okay. We will probably go back tomorrow morning to try a few other breakfast items. I recommend!

Stopped in here twice — lunch one day, breakfast the next. Everyone was incredibly friendly, food was fresh & delicious, brewing great Phil & Sebastian coffee, insanely tasty bars & squares. What more can you ask for?! Definitely worthwhile — even to go out of your way to stop here when visiting Prince Edward County.

Italian eggs were delicious! The lady(the owner?) was so friendly and gave the place a great atmosphere. Definitely worth a stop.

We stopped here after our tour of a few wineries in the region. We went up to the counter and we’re seated shortly thereafter. The server was very pleasant. We ordered the meatball sandwich, the curry lentil soup plus the Reuben with a salad. It took a while to receive our food but it was worth the wait. Everything was super tasty!

We had lunch here yesterday. Got here a bit early(1145) because by 1200 the place was packed. Even so, the good was great and the service friendly and attentive. Coffee is superb here. We had quiche of the day with a green salad. Both excellent.

Popped in here for coffee and treats — a lovely space, with lovely staff. Coffees were all great(cappuccino, latte) as were the various pastries(German Chocolate Browning, Peanut Butter Brownie). Next time were are in the area, we’ll make a point of doing lunch or dinner — people seem to love love love this place. A woman outside of the restaurant made a point of telling us how much she enjoyed their food. That doesn’t happen too often! Would I recommend: yes Would I return: yes

Best lunch I’ve had in a long time, friendly staff, great soup, can’t recommend them enough. Next time I’m in PEC this is the first place I’m going

Top drawer coffee spot in a generally sub-par milieu for cafés. Good illustration: when I switched my order at the last minute from ‘to go’ to ‘for here’, the barista insisted on re-making the coffee rather than transferring it to a mug. She explained that it would ruin the crema if she did otherwise. Perfect answer!

We had breakfast here and we loved it! For a start the food looked excellent and the taste and service was really good. My son really enjoyed it.

My husband and I stopped by for lunch at Tall Poppy during our wine tasting tour in the county. It is a neat little spot decorated with mix-matched furniture and local artwork(like handmade quilts) hung around the walls, which gives the place eclectic charm and character. The menu has a good selection for lunch that include some of your brunch favourites like a house-made quiche or something a little different like a falafel with their homemade soup. Both meals were tasty with good flavour. It seems to be a popular spot, as the place started getting crowded around mid noon with people stopping in for lunch or a coffee break.

The kind of place that somehow could fit equally well on a rural main street(where it is) or in the heart of Leslieville or Parkdale in Toronto. The only switch would be whether you take the knit poppy tea cozies and coasters displayed on the walls at face value or as hipster novelty. Great coffee, great breakfast(lunch menu also looked cool) and great staff. Kind of want to get man hands on one of the welded flower holders and simple metal poppies that adorn the tables.

Great little café. My girlfriend and I had breakfast here today. I had the ‘Ben’ and she had Italian eggs. We enjoyed them both. Maybe a little pricey($ 35 with tip for 2 breakfasts, 2 coffees and a desert) but tasty food, great and quick service.

Always a great place to hang out on a Sunday before our road trip home. Great coffee and food, atmosphere is very relaxed in the old mercantile space, with original painted copper ceilings and hardwood floors. No mater what you are doing in the county the Tall Poppy is definitely a great way to start it off!

This is our go-to breakfast, lunch, and dinner café in Wellington. The locally sourced food inspired an ever changing menu and we love the homey atmosphere. Not uptight, stuffy, or formal at all this café is personal and sweet. They serve Ontario beer and local cider on tap, and County beer and wines by the bottle or glass. Coffee and breakfast are great — the coffee is always fresh and delicious and the breakfast plates are fresh and healthy. Lunch and dinner share a menu from soup and salad, to curry, thai, and southern flavours. The options are great and the chefs have clearly curated their menus. Be sure to check out the desserts, made by an amazing in-house pastry chef. The space is a mix of old and new with tin walls and ceiling, hardwood floors, mismatched tables and chairs, and chandeliers.

This small café in Wellington is a spot that feels extremely friendly upon walking in. Table and chairs are assorted, and I imagine they were all collected over time from various yard sales. Ceilings and walls have the look of authentic old embossed tin, and with the fresh white paint, things feel very fresh. My party of three(four if you count a 2-month old!) enjoyed lunch, although I was immediately envious of the breakfast menu that was also listed on the large hanging chalkboard where all menu options are displayed. I’d return to test breakfast in a heartbeat as there were lots of options I found interesting. For lunch though, I had a BLT with gluten-free bread and the daily salad. I was happy to know that they had a GF bread option, and the salad was tasty, although I don’t think I’d pick it again. It was a combo of greens, artichoke, tomato and had a sprinkling of black beans included. Tasty, just not my favourite. The real winning moment of lunch was actually the coffee and coconut macaroon that was so big it was easy to share. Perfectly baked, it was golden brown on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, and also had a sprinkling of mini choco chips on top. Delicious. Service was friendly and laid-back. I’d recommend trying to sit for lunch at a less-than peak period, as when busy it’s buzzing with energy!

Excellent café in downtown Wellington, ON(close to several wineries). They have coffee, pastries, and well crafted food. I ordered rib eye skewers with scallops and frites for 26. The red wine demi glare was very tasty and the scallops, vegetables, and frites were very good, however, the rib eye stake was well overcooked. If you do order this dish, be sure to ask for the steak to be medium. There are many cheaper options such as pitas, wraps, spanokipita, salads, burger for around 10 or a little more. The breakfast menu looks really good, unfortunately I am only visiting this evening so I will not be able to try it this time. They have wine and a good selection of local beer available. They also have buckets full of toys for children to play with.
