History

Established in 2003.

In business since 2003, Arbutus Routes first operated under the name Whistler Outback Adventures, until we rebranded in 2011. We felt it was time to find a distinct name to represent our unique operation as we had grown to operate multi-​sport adventures not just in Whistler, but throughout British Columbia.

Our difference is that we truly specialize in British Columbia and have the ability to fully customize your trip to match your vision. Our local connections in the area are immediately felt by our travellers and draw you into the local culture while exploring these inspiring regions.

Our passion is fuelled by our desire to experience areas we consider to be some of the most beautiful in the world, to share those experiences with our guests and to simply get outside and play.

Matt D.

Business Owner

A business graduate of the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island, Matt is truly at home in BC’s Southwest. He is an experienced guide with an energetic personality and genuine love for sharing nature and new experiences. His certifications include Advanced Wilderness First Aid and CPR, Commercial River Guide School, Swiftwater Rescue Level III, and Avalanche Operations Level I. With a strong concern for our natural environment, Matt has sailed with the Ocean Gybe crew in the South Pacific as well as through Central America. A global research and sailing expedition designed to promote ocean conservation and protection. An avid skier, mountain biker, and rock climber, Matt has traveled through South East Asia, the South Pacific, Africa, Central America, Patagonia and Europe pursuing his passions.
