Blackcomb Snowmobiles

Absolutely astounded with their lack of professionalism and respect for customers! WILL NEVER visit this company, and will NEVER recommend these scoundrels.
We were visiting with family from overseas and spontaneously found ourselves near Whistler for the morning; we decided to drive to the base area of the Blackcomb Snowmobile camp to inquire about prices, tours, and availability but didn’t quite make it — our driving-​inexperience in the snow left us stuck on a valuable patch of their snowmobile track right at the entrance to their basecamp. We spent a few minutes attempting to dig out, until the arrival of a few of their staff. While we were sheepish for having gotten stuck, we looked forward to assistance from them as they passed with trucks and snowmobiles. Instead, one of their staff clapped as he drove by, and another stopped to describe our error, and offered to pull us out of the snow for $ 400.
We declined. And we continued to dig out. Eventually, a local on his snowmobile came by and yanked us off the snow mound — we thanked him with beer money!
*Needless to say, we did not stay to ask about tours or prices at Blackcomb Snowmobiles. And we will know which company to avoid in future; it was amazing to us the attitude of the staff here. A few moments of their help could have gotten them more business and perhaps a great review.

Let me start out by saying I have been on a tour with this company and had a blast but on the repeat visit I can’t say the same. A friend booked the wilderness tour which turned out to be a couples/​senior citizens tour. We did not get the sleds over 15mph, yawn. I felt like I was stuck in rush hour traffic and couldn’t pass anyone. If you are looking for an adventure or challenge, this is not the tour for you. I felt a little ripped off. It was more about running into cabins for cider and cookies than it was about the sledding. Groups were way to big and slow. I don’t think I will be back.

One star for the scenery — it is STUNNINGLY gorgeous — and one star because half of our group had a really awesome time. However, be warned, you will be allowed to go fast and have fun ONLY if you «are fueled by testosterone.» (Quote directly from my guide.) We were a group of 6, 4 men and 2 women, and they immediately separated the women out to be led by a different guide, go slow and be handled with super delicate kid gloves. I paid the same amount of money to have the same experience and that opportunity was taken away from me because I’m female. And then, when I asked about it, the response that I got (the quote above) was patronizing and sexist. And on top of it, after being confronted, our guide got annoyed with us and was extra rude to a woman friend of mine. This should have been a really spectacular experience, but it wasn’t because I wasn’t given the opportunity to even make the decision about the kind of experience I wanted to have. Do better.

The ride itself was quite good! We enjoyed it, and it was nice and long. Although I wished we had gone a bit faster, but it was still really fun. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars though was because they offer you to sell you professional pictures that were taken during your ride, they’re $ 50 and you get a usb for all the photos from your tour, they make it sound like you get a bunch. Well we bought the pictures and there were only 3 pictures of us and they were all at the same part of the ride. It was a big disappointment, if we’d known that, we wouldn’t have ever wasted $ 50 on the photos.

Shockingly poor service. The surly attendant (Kim I think was her name) was unbelievably rude to me, not to mention fraudulently charged my credit card and lied in the dispute process. So she basically helped herself to my money and I can’t do a thing about it.
I don’t care if someone pays me, I’d NEVER use these guys.

Came here for mountain mushing (dogsled). What is advertised as 2.5hrs for $ 400 (2 people) includes transport time and time filling out paperwork/​running credit cards. Actually time on the trail is just under an hour that includes about a 10 – 15 break at a lookout point. Dogs were not as big nor as fast as I expected. They are cute and fun to play with though.

We booked the 2-​hour snowmobile Wilderness Adventure Tour for the three of us. We couldn’t have picked a nicer day– clear, crisp, sunny –9C. It would have been so much better if the experience delivered had come close to the company hype. The 2-​hour «wilderness adventure» turned out to be less than 30 minutes of riding! The rest of the time was spent getting everyone in gear and orientated with the machine and driving issues.
We started off moving very slow (10 – 15 km/​hr) and stopping every few hundred yards to make sure everyone catches up. The tour moves at the speed of the slowest rider! After doing this slow pace for a while, a few riders expressed their disappointment which resulted in splitting the group in two. The ride started to get more exciting and we start to hit speeds of 50 – 60 km/​hr and going up higher elevations. Unfortunately, this part lasted less than 10 minutes before we found ourselves in parking lot again!
It was definitely not worth the $ 149.

January is the best time (Snow.snow.snow. Lots of snow).

We had a 9am tour today w/​a very friendly and courteous tour guide. He went over everything with each of us about the atv then trained us with the atv and off we went up into woods. If I could go back and do it again I would try the snowmobile tour or the hummer tour. Must try!

Making the reservations was fast and easy. It was the four of us and we got two sleds. Our guides were Dominque and Alex. Both were great! They talked to us before our ride about each dog that was going to pull us. We got to interact with all dogs and they couldn’t have been nicer! So sweet! We soon got into our sleds and off we went! The guides were very friendly and during our stops asked if we wanted a family picture taken. Any questions they had they answered. After the run we were able to give them treats for a job well done. Highly recommend this company! You can tell they really are compassionate about their pups!

Had an amazing time, Colin was our guide and did an outstanding job. Would and will go again.

The day started with meeting at the Hilton to grab the shuttle to the sledding location. A quick ride brought our group to a lot of barking dogs waiting to go running. We started inside petting the puppies. We could pick them up and hold them. Seriously too cute! Then we got a quick tutorial.
We got to feel like part of the sled team by watching and holding the dogs as they got hooked in. It’s a pretty fun ride. Great to see how the dogs behave. The names they give the dogs are great. There was no snow fall so the company trucked in snow every day to facilitate the dog runs.
My now fiancée worked out with the company earlier to assist with a proposal, and the team did such a great job. Many folks were in on it and it was really sweet. Such a nice location on a cliff, alone, and tons of photos from our dog guide!
The owners well behaved dog runs freely and will come hand you a stick to play fetch with. It’s a pretty awesome location with super nice staff.
I docked a star because it is rather expensive for the short excursion. $ 396 CAN for two people seems a bit excessive.

Our snowmobile tour was amazing! The guides were awesome and the scenery was beautiful! I will definitely book with Blackcomb Snowmobile again.

My wife and two daughters booked a snowmobile trip with Black Comb Snowmobile for 03/​21/​2012. It cost $ 186 US dollars each, including tax, for a 2 hour ride. It was pricey and we were expecting a big bang for our bucks.
A shuttle bus picked us up at the Whistler Hilton and 20 minutes later we arrived at the snowmobile site. We put on our gear and then went out to the snowmobiles where we received some instructions. The snowmobiles were lined up one after the other rather than side by side. So, it was critical to take off slowly. The guide went first, I followed the guide, my wife followed me, and my 2 daughters followed her. Just as we started I heard a crashing sound. One of my daughters crashed into the back of my wife’s snowmobile. They went flying off. My wife hit the handle bars and was in serious pain. She could no longer go for the ride and of course I stayed with her. My daughter wasn’t seriously hurt and she went on the ride. We went inside their onsite headquarters and waited for the ride to complete. To my surprise, the ride was over in one hour — not the two hours that we paid for.
My wife went to the clinic at Whistler where the doctor determined she had broken or bruised ribs. He didn’t do an x-​ray because the treatment was the same — stay in bed for a month. For the next two days we repeatedly called Blackcomb Snowmobiles seeking compensation for the two rides that we paid for but could not have. Finally, my wife got through to the owner and he compensated us for one of our two rides — thank you very much. If you want to snowmobile around Whistler you will have choices of outfitters to use. I’d recommend not choosing Black Comb Snowmobiles.

Went on a tandem snowmobile at 4:30 which is pretty much nighttime in winter and it was a lot of fun! Just have to remember to lean into that first big turn and not hit any potholes which tossed me and my son off the snowmobile, we were fine just a bruised ego :-) !! Got back on and caught up! I think I prefer the single snowmobiles though, as I’m a petitie 5’3″ so the tandem was a little big and heavy for me to maneuvere properly.

I purchased 2 Groupons earlier in the year and finally got a chance to redeem them. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get an earlier booking, and had to go on a 4:30pm tour, it was already quite dark — next time I’d like to try the day tour. We were picked up and driven to site at the Hilton, the driver was about 15 minutes late (the girl at the desk told us we’d be picked up at 4:15, but the guy didn’t get there till 4:30). As someone mentioned previous, even though it says it’s a 2-​hour tour, that includes the transportation time, so it’s more like 1.5 hours.
Upon arrival, the staff were very attentive. They were quick to help us gear up & were super friendly. It was nice that they had extra gear in case someone was ill-​equipped. Our tour guide Chris was great. We were the only ones on the tour, so the pace was fine. Although I could see others being annoyed with going slow if you are stuck with someone who isn’t as comfortable on the snowmobile. It was raining and dark, so it wasn’t the best conditions (not their fault). But still fun. Chris made sure we were safe, and dug us out when we got stuck (which happened a few times). And he took us to an area that was untouched snow — which was pretty cool.

We also had a Groupon for Blackcomb Snowmobiles. We were totally stoked for it! But they didn’t deliver what was promised. The ride wasn’t very long and we didn’t get enough time to enjoy what we were doing. It was the ride up, 10 mins at the top, and a ride down. That’s it.
We were supposed to get a snack half way through — that didn’t happen either.
I do have to say though, the staff there were VERY friendly, helpful and patient. The staff were pretty much the only thing that saved the trip. I would recommend this trip only to people who want to get the hang of riding a snowmobile — definitely not suited for a nature tour or thrill seekers.

Blackcomb Snowmobiles are *the* guys to go with for a great snowmobile outing. They offer several different tour options from beginner to fairly advanced routes, and they’ll customize to suit your group. There were 5 of us today when we went out and we all had been on snow machines at least once. We chose the 3-​hour Wilderness Adventure tour, which was challenging enough to keep us very entertained. We started at their cabin headquarters and made our way progressively up the mountain to a peak at about the same elevation as the peak of Whistler. The views were outstanding, as were the trails in the Brandywine trail system.
Our guides name was Luke (coincidentally the same as Skylar’s review) and he was great — very safe, yet also a lot of fun. We were fast on the trails and he turned us a loose a couple of different times on bowls and a couple of frozen lakes.
As a point of comparison, we booked a similar tour with Outdoor Adventures in the Whistler village last year and we all felt like our tour with Blackcomb Snowmobiles was better. The trail system that Blackcomb uses is nicer, and the views were certainly much much better. We went equally fast on both tours, so you’ll be safe either way if that’s your main concern. The 3 hour tour price with Blackcomb was the same or less than the various competing companies.

One of the best nights of my Whistler life was when all the employees at my job went snowmobiling. The people at Blackcomb Snowmobiles worked with us on a group rate that beat out their competitor. It was also pretty close to the place I worked which was a nice perk for us.
The staff met at the Château Fairmont where we signed the consent forms and then we were all loaded onto a mini-​bus. The driver was really funny and made the twenty minute+/- bus ride fly by.
When we got to the snowmobile base we were quickly ushered inside, fitted with helmets and were given a brief lowdown on safety and operations.
After a iffy start of everyone getting their Skidoo legs, we were off. I was lucky enough (I’m going to say luck as I can’t see how anyone could have sucked as much as me) to be put in the ‘advanced’ group. We went faster than the other group and even got to over a jump. The jump was, dare I say, more fun than a ski jump.
I am so glad I did this at night. Apparently the track we were speeding through isn’t an interior track. No, we were actually feet from a steep, steep drop. The next week I knew a girl who fell off the side of the mountain and by the grace of God only broke her shoulder and collarbone. Don’t be stupid andt this won’t happen to you.
