We tried a few other places in town in the same price range, and this wasn’t one of our favorites. The service was great and food was good (crab legs were outstanding, solid steak, okay fish). Reason for low stars is the ladies room was very poorly maintained; think restrooms in a mall or worse. I told the hostess about it at the start of our meal, and went in at the end, it hadn’t been tended too. Basically, if restrooms aren’t clean you have to wonder what kitchen is like. Had it been clean we’d give it a 3.5 or 4.

Waitstaff was truly amazing. We were here for Christmas dinner. We wanted a nice «fancy» experience and for that, we weren’t disappointed. My son had a New York stop with a side of Alaskan King Crab Legs. The Crab was outstanding. My husband had the porterhouse while I had 3 apps as my meal– steak tartare, carpaccio and the Caesar salad. All in all the food was good. Wouldn’t say it lived up to the hype. Didn’t compare to a Ruth’s Chris or a Morton’s. For this to be the «best steakhouse» in Whistler, I expected a bit more WOW from the food. But still a 4 star experience.

Meat was tough. Clam chowder was clamless. Cheese toast was good. Price was too high.

One of the best bone in prime rib stake I have ever tired. Excellent meat quality and the flavor is rich and addictive.

Good, not great. Did the fall 4 course special. Everything but the main was good, but the steak left a lot to be desired. Was properly cooked, but small and the plate presentation was not good, all the same bland colour… Service was good and efficient. Interesting that such a high priced restaurant would have so many families with kids; difficult to have a special occasion meal in this atmosphere. Whistler has much better for the price.

For a high end restaurant, this place is quite dull menu-​wise. Don’t get me wrong the ambiance is pleasant, the staff are all very friendly and professional. The staff exceeded my expectations by being attentive and keeping my water filled. But the actual food that comes out of the kitchen makes me question why the price point is so high.
For example, most steak houses have a nice loaf of bread with nice butter they give u with dinner. Hy’s has their signature «cheese toast» which is basically what you would order your child at Swiss chalet… u know… like it’s just some bread with cheese on it. You get 2 dinky slices and it’s not with any extravagant cheese like Brie or blue or exceptionally great home made bread. It’s just some cheddar melted on toast. Nothing to write home about. It comes wrapped in tin foil for what attributes to the lamest presentation of a dish I’ve ever seen at a fine dining restaurant. It might as well have come out of a food truck specializing in grilled cheese sandwiches.
I ordered a Caesar, which in this day and age, in a high class place that prides itself as being a cocktail bar (the sign at the front says steak house and cocktail bar) the place should make an effort to be a little creative and make a good quality Caesar with some nice garnish and something impressive … Put some love into it!!! But Hy’s did absolutely nothing spectacular. It was pretty much a Bloody Mary not even seemed like real clamato juice. But even if it was the drink was the plainest Caesar ever with no special treatment or recipe. Even lower end restaurants like Dustys and Brickworks make more effort to impress u with their Caesar. The Hy’s Caesar is on par with something I’d get at Garf’s or Maxx fish nightclub.
The appy I got was the calamari. Although it was tasty, it was again on par with something you would expect from après at Dustys or Merlins. Just deep fried garbage pre-​frozen from Sysco supplier. Almost as if the chef did nothing to even try to improve it out of the bag.
The main dish was ok, but for what you pay it was rather an emptyish plate. I got no greens even as a garnish and the steak was very well cooked but really plain in flavour. No special sauces, rubs, marinating, seasoning or pizaz whatsoever that I could detect. Just a bare cooked steak. Got some kick ass roast potatoes with it but for the price you pay at this place, one should be raving about more than the potatoes.
So all in all, I would steer clear of this place, the feeling I get after eating here is «you got hosed for high priced, low quality food» or «fell for the biggest tourist trap in town» kinda vibez.
Maybe it’s cuz I got the $ 50 4 course special menu during slow season, but a manager with half a brain, would know that you should try and impress people who come for this deal, and make them want to come back instead of cut corners on every aspect of the meal.

Had a great dinner had the Beef Wellington it was out of this world. Would visit again on my next visit.

Filet Mignon. Best I’ve ever had.
The lobster tail wasn’t bad either — the butter was fresh and the tail was flavourful.
The table beside us had a table-​side caesar salad and I got to witness how it was made. It was fascinating.
The service was professional and friendly. One of the best steak places in Vancouver/​Whistler.

Hy’s has definitely lost their touch. The whole experience was disappointing. Appies were just plain bad, seared tuna came out ROOM temp with horrible presentation and crab cakes were dry. Horrible steak, «42 day aged». I truly do NOT believe that. New York steak was extremely sour tasting and flavorless. Service was mediocre as most. Not the service you would expect for their steep prices. Literally just wanted to leave the restaurant as soon as possible. I even went to ARAXI for some real food after. I will NOT ever be back to Hys. The only reason why I am even giving this two stars is because I must say the Whistler location is the better compared to their horrible Vancouver location. Save yourself from disappointment and just go to Araxi!

Had several appies for dinner instead of a main. Very full from après ski. Very nice atmosphere. Heavy food. Steak. And more steak. Enjoy savings by buying gift cards from costco first. (20% off)
Whistler Hy’s food is not as good as Vancouver Hy’s however. The Whistler cheese toast isn’t as crispy as the Vancouver cheese toast. And the appy cheese toast is a highlight. Don’t know why they can’t do it the same.

Place is good. However, as expensive as it is (and it’s really expensive), it should be great. Service was superb. Our waitress was extremely professional. Our apps were hit and miss; the crab cake was the highlight of the night… It was one of the best I’ve had. The Cesar salad was pretty good (a little too much dressing but otherwise tasty). The beef carpaccio was bland. And that leads me into the meat. This place is supposed to be all about the steak. We had the 22ounce rib steak, the porterhouse, Gorgonzola filet and filet. All were quality cuts of beef but they lacked the signature flavor that aged steaks should have. Not enough salt-​chargrilled flavor. It left me wishing there was a Capital Grill in Whistler. The twice baked potato was pretty good. All in all nothing special and for the money, kind of a rip off.

Did our V-​Day dinner here. Started with some oysters and shrimp cocktail, seafood in general seems to be great in BC. For my entrée I had the surf and turf, a small filet mignon (think it was 6 oz?) and a sizable lobster tail. Both were properly cooked, but my tail was really salty — feedback to the chef — less salt for me next time! I stuck with it and still really enjoyed my meal, our server was great too which made the overall experience solid.

Pretty disappointed today — ended up having Valentine’s dinner last night with my husband at Hy’s and had a great time… Until 2:30am in the morning! I awoke with an epic stomach pain and immediately realized it was going to be a long night! After getting violently ill for hours on my vacation after eating the Gorgonzola filet, I finally saw the light this morning! So tonight I get the strength to go down there and explain that their food made me sick (thinking maybe it will help someone else!) — only to have the manager Mike basically explain to me that I don’t understand the «steps of food poisoning» and this «was not their fault». After listening to him go on and on about how I can’t prove anything, I finally broke into tears.
I will save you all the details, but he refunded me only my steak and sufficiently made me feel worse than I did when I was vomiting up his food. So thank you Hy’s — you really showed your customer service oriented attitude.
And no, I don’t want a gift card to come back. Duh.

I have been here three times in the past month or so, because I just couldn’t believe that a place like this could have the issues it does. I figured the first time, it was just an off day. The second time was a disaster, and I only went back the third time because our friends were already there.
To be fair, the staff are excellent. The servers and bartenders are some of the best in the village. It’s the back of the house.
For a steakhouse, they should know how to cook steak. Nope. Ordered it rare each time, and each time it came out medium.
Scallop appetizer… same thing. Over cooked and rubbery.
The cuts of meat were what really bothered us. Pieces of meat that we’re definitely not quality cuts. Uneven cuts. chewy meat. Lack of marbling in rib eye?
Time for a change guys.

Great wine and steaks. Expensive, but worth a stop.
On the first night of our guys ski trip, we had dinner at Hy’s. We started with some cheese bread that was incredible… highly recommended. The Malbec wine was my favorite for all of the restaurants we visited on our trip. I ordered the New York strip special that came with shrimp. My steak was delicious and I also liked the shrimp. I had a side salad and enjoyed it as well. We also ordered some creamed spinach that was quite tasty.
The only thing that I found odd was that I ordered my steak medium rare. Other folks at my table ordered their Porterhouse steaks cooked medium, and their steaks came out bloodier than mine. Not sure why.
Looking forward to visiting Hy’s on our next trip to Whistler.

Was up there for the to have a good time with my girl and wanted steak for dinner the one night, every time I been up in whistler I would eat at Ric but found that they closed down so the concierge told me about hy’s so we checked it out, best steak me and my girl had. i had the beef wellington well she had a fillet mignon it was a little pricey but well worth it .

Nice restaurant, I had a Cesar salad, onion soup and lamb chops.
Lamb chops were very good, onion soup was good but I’ve had better elsewhere. Cesar salad was tossed at the table… entertaining to watch but prefer it delivered without the show. With all this the salad was good.
To conclude: a nice and good restaurant, good and polite service.

Great restaurant, 3 stars only cause the Hy’s in Vancouver is that much better that Hy’s Whistler was a bit of a disappointment. However, still a great restaurant if you’ve never tried a Hy’s before.
I ordered a Surf and Turf, i’ve ordered the Surf and Turf and Hy’s in Vancouver a few times and the two definitely can not be considered the same restaurant. The lobster was good, but lobster is always good. The steak however, tasted like it came out of any regular restaurant, definitely not Hy’s caliber. I ordered it medium rare, but found it a bit dry, tough to chew and the flavor was bland.
The service was mediocre, not the top notch service you would expect from a Hy’s.
Overall, not a memorable experience. Would recommend if you have not tried a Hy’s before, but if you have the option, definitely go to the Hy’s in Vancouver instead.

I hate giving this place 3 stars, but we weren’t as satisfied as we have been in the past. We drove to Whistler from Vancouver on a Friday for our anniversary dinner. The downtown one was packed until 9:30, so we made a fun get-​away of it and drove to Whistler to enjoy the place where we discovered Hy’s.
They had a 4 course set menu and then their standard menu. We both decided to keep it light and order from the 4 course menu. I had put on the reservation that it was our anniversary, but I found that the staff failed to acknowledge, despite the restaurant being a ghost town that night. The service was good, but we have had better. There is good service and then there is above and beyond service. You expect the above and beyond service from Hy’s. I order the steak Diane with a salad to start and Crème brûlée as a finish. My hubs ordered a Caesar to start, with the filet and the chocolate cake. All the food was good, but we go to Hy’s for the extra touches and it just wasn’t there today. Too bad really, because it’s my favourite restaurant.
Side note: For a restaurant of this calibre, it’s pretty cheeky to charge 1.00 for a refill of Pepsi. Especially considering that we told them we were driving home after, which is why we couldn’t enjoy an alcoholic drink… that’s kind of like a slap in the face!!!
