Living in Whitby for the majority of my life, I can say with confidence that this library is the perfect place to not only study and work, but also, to find yourself. Every aspect of the Whitby Library is perfect, from the wide variety of seating options to the large collection of books, magazines and DVDs. This location is perfect for children, as a large portion of the 1st floor is dedicated to children books and beginner-chapter books for budding readers! They really take care of the youngsters here, and it is shown in the way they provide free story-time sessions. If you have a child and they don’t know how to read yet, this is a great place for them to start! A notable section of the library would definitely be the café, found on the first floor. While a little on the pricy side, I must say that their sandwiches are«to die for»! If I had to pick out a crown jewel building to represent Whitby, it would have to be the Whitby Public Library, hands down. This is simply because it is the place where community meets knowledge. The beauty of this building makes me want to strive for greatness and urges me to work harder in whatever Im working on whenever I’m here. Although it is your typical library, where everyone is quiet and largely keeps to themselves, you can’t help but feel a sense of community and security whenever your inside. Large windows, comfortable(and plentiful!) seating, stable tables, reliable computers, a relaxing atmosphere, and no shortage of reading material; what more could you want?!

Very nice place. They gave it quite the nice renovation quite a few years ago and it’s still nice to this day. The café(Press Café) is a bit over priced but it’s run by very nice people who will make you whatever drink you want. The only thing I can complain about is the fact that the library does run out of space quickly, so if you’re going there to work or study with friends, getting a conference room(and working without being interrupted) is hard, even finding a table is difficult. One time I had to study with my friend on a giant soft chair in the kids section, there was no other place to go.

This library is the best! They have computers, studying areas, comfort zones, a caffe, a large variety of new and old books and pretty much anything you could ask for from a library. The outside of the building looks amazing and is probably the nicest peice of architecture in Whitby! The inside atmosphere is great, looks great, sounds great and feels great! The library itself is located right in the heart of downtown Whitby so that is an added bonus, as it means that you are also near plenty of other stores that you may need as well! Overall, amazing!

Chic… I feel like I just stepped into the Ritz version of a library. High Ceiling. Grand Staircase. Armchairs…Sofa…Cozy Fireplace… Large windows… Whitby Public Library has all the bell and the whistles and anything that I want in my dream library… I think I can even organize my «dream» wedding here! The only problem is the limited number of parking spots. Only around 15 or so for a large library this size(it has more computer terminals than parking lots!!) Of course there are some reasonable municipal parking lots right next to the library at 50 cents a hour and free on evenings, weekends and holidays.

This library is amazing. Brand spanking new. Presse Café on the main level serves up some decent stuff. Study rooms with plugs in the table for group work. If you are a student in Whitby or Durham and can get here, I would definitely recommend it! Totally trumps the libraries in Toronto when it comes to study space. Haven’t had to get any materials but the space is amazing. Wifi available for everyone, just log in. If you don’t have a card just ask for a guest pass. Unlimited access if you have your own computer; 30 minutes if you want to use a computer. Totally impressed!
