In May of 2010, we hired Diamond Home Improvement to reshingle the roofs on our house and garage, install new siding on the garage and parts of the house, rebuild the chimney on the house, install new soffits, fascia, and gutters on the house and garage, install a new door and three new windows on the garage, and recap a few window and door frames. This was a $ 20K job.
We hired them for a few reasons:
1. We liked Rod.
2. Our next door neighbours had Diamond do a bunch of exterior work the previous year, and it looked good.
3. We got a couple other quotes, and Diamond’s was within a couple hundred dollars of the other quotes.
4. We couldn’t find any bad (or good) reviews online, so we figured we were pretty safe. After all, they’d been in business for over 25 years, so they must be OK, right?
Work began in early June, and they started with the chimney. We were 100% satisfied with how the chimney turned out, and had high hopes for the rest of the job. Work started on the roofs in mid June. It was all downhill from there.
All in all, there were about three dozen separate issues that needed to be dealt with (sloppy caulking and capping, damaged shingles, improperly installed fascia, J-​channel, eavestroughs, etc, etc). Dozens of photos were taken during the process to prove that we weren’t just being picky (I have kept all the emails we sent back and forth, too). Emails and phone calls were unanswered or ignored for days. They’d say they’d be here on a certain day or time and wouldn’t show up. By the end of July, 2011 most issues were dealt with but not everything was to our satisfaction. By this point, we just wanted it over.
In the end, we couldn’t have been happier with the colours and materials we chose, but as far as the work goes, more was wrong than right and we definitely would not recommend Diamond Home Improvement to anyone. It was a horrible experience.
