My wife and I have just returned from Paulette’s Island Palace and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Paulette’s is a restaurant that you could actually find in Jamaica — understated décor, laid back atmosphere, convivial host and good and attentive service. The food was delicious. We both had the Jerk Chicken and both agreed it was probably the best jerk we’ve ever had — prepared with love and with attention to flavor and quality of ingredients — it melted in your mouth. The hostess, Paulette, is a joy. Friendly, outgoing and trying hard to make her restaurant a place that feels like home and that makes you feel welcomed. Paulette is involved not only in serving her customers but also strives to be a strong presence in her community through Outreach programs and by giving generously to those in need around her. We will definitely be going back and will spread the good word about this little bit of Caribbean in Windsor.

Not sure why the other review was removed… Paulette’s simply isn’t that great and could be much better. Paulette’s Island Palace is a small Caribbean restaurant on University Ave. It barely looks open and seems more like a living quarter for the eccentric owner inside. The lady was friendly when I was there but really didn’t seem like she wanted to be serving anyone at the time. The menu encompasses Caribbean classics like Oxtail Stew and Jerk Chicken among others. We ordered up the Curry Chicken and the Jerk Chicken large platters. The food was pretty much microwaved or reheated on the stove which already didn’t make the place too appealing. For being a large platter, there didn’t seem to be that much food either. The Curry Chicken was good but there just wasn’t too much of it. The chicken was very oily and sat in a pool of its own fat and oil to go with the rice. The jerk chicken was also reheated and you can tell. It wasn’t fresh but it didn’t taste too bad. The jerk chicken did have a kick to it, so I would be wary. I did kind of like that though. The portion again was lacking, especially for a large platter. Not really much to say about the place. The owner was friendly but seemed a bit lazy. I’d like to see her succeed but she really has to pick the place up. If you’re gonna reheat food, try to hide it or something. If she could prepare things fresh and up the portion a bit more, she could make something good of the place. Until then, I don’t think I’ll be going back.
