Ate outside was nice that day. They were quick with the drinks and very friendly with me and my freind. The food was good a little small but tasty.

Food was alright but the price and portion size was pretty disappointing. It’s pretty cool inside and I might go for a quick drink but won’t be back to eat. I would give it a 2.5 but can’t so rounded down cause 3 is too much…

Good brew. Good food. Good place. Much calmer and nice side of the Detroit — Windsor area. Waitress was amazing!

Excellent service and shaded outside area to eat. Fried mac and cheese was really good, waffle fries are a must and the chicken vs pork sandwich was also pretty good. Overall really good! It’s in an area of Canada that has a lot of restaurants and a really good vibe. Almost like you’re in destin fl or something(this was written in July: p). Just really nice

I went to South Detroit on a Saturday night out with my Boyfriend and was surprised how busy it was! We luckily got two spots at the bar. He ordered the sushi rolls and I got both the waffle fries as a side and the deconstructed guacamole. The wait for our food was kind of long, to be honest, but apparently it was because I had asked for no cheese and they had messed up my order then had to fix it. The waffle fries were AMAZING. The sushi was good too, apparently. The guacamole thing was.interesting. They put all the ingredients separately on the plate and I guess the intention was cause I didn’t want the cheese I could mix the guac myself? I didn’t understand why they couldn’t have just made the dish. without cheese. Instead it was just a bunch of random stuff on a plate, an empty silver bowl and an avocado that had been grilled. Overall, it was a cool little place and I probably would go back again because the food wasn’t half bad and the ambiance was great too.

Awesome time on NYE with exceptional service for North Detroiters. Jessie and Jodie are the best bartenders in Ontario. Quebec and British Columbia too.

Visiting a Michigan friend, we decided to venture into Windsor and grab a bite at South Detroit. Cozy place, interesting items on the menu — duck bacon, anyone? I love guacamole and they serve it up with grilled avocado and the ingredients are served whole, waiting for your assembly. Got my first taste of Cracked Canoe and their Pear Ale is dangerous. Not a bad place — but they need to fix the currency converter on the computer — our C$ 63.00 meal converted to $ 75.00 on a day when the American dollar was worth C$ 1.15(!). That girl got a $ 30 tip because I didn’t feel like a debate on economics. Enjoy the new wrist tattoo, honey! On another note, the blonde bartender was HOT!

We headed over to South Detroit for our anniversary dinner the service was fantastic and friendly. My partner had the waffle chicken sandwich which was an amazing experience if you like sweet and savoury. I had the fish tacos which were huge and served with ample amounts of fresh lime on the side. We paired the meal with our favourite Walkerville brew and cant wait to go back for another amazing meal.

Windsor, of course, was memorialized in Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing as «South Detroit». Well, sort of. There is no south Detroit, as the city center is right at the water. The only thing south of the city center is lil ol’ Windsor. Windsor will take it. Wanted to try this place for name only. Burgers are individually priced without sides. Add a side and you’re still looking at a very reasonably priced meal. Some creative dishes on the menu. A «gastro pub» but not in name. A small comfy patio that’s partially covered. After sitting on a sunny patio, sitting on a covered patio and watching rain storm with a beverage in hand is a very pleasant way to spend a summer afternoon or early evening.

Good food but small portions. I can’t remember the burger I had but I also got chili, both were good.

Would give it 3 ½ stars if I could, but no such thing on this site. Mixed opinions on this place. I like the concept, and what they are trying to do. No menu items over $ 10 is a welcome change of pace, until you realise the plates are all VERY small though. When you start adding in the prices of your drinks, appetizer plate, and main dish with a side, it easily propels you into«expensive» territory even if by first glance it looks to be a bargain. Many items are homemade, which was great, but a big disappointment is their fries which are obviously commercial and frozen. I’m having a hard time understanding this logic; why go through the trouble of making elaborate and fancy dishes with an emphasis on «made from scratch» but then go and soil it all by serving it with frozen fries? Major gripes are just that the portions are really anemic and small, and the beer selection sucked, only a couple things on draught and not a single dark beer or stout in the entire joint. It’s also quite expensive if you’re actually planning on eating enough food to be full, because you gotta order at least 2 items plus a side dish. Still, the food that WAS«made from scratch» was tasty enough, just gotta fix those portion sizes, our entire party of 6 would all agree. And get a better beer selection for gods sake! Where’s the Guinness?

I was visiting friends and family in my hometown and wanted to go for dinner at a local owned establishment. A friend suggested this new place called South Detroit downtown. It’s owned by the owners of Oishii and Chanosos(2 successful Windsor restaurants), and located right next door. The menu consists of a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and small plates. Unlike most restaurants, the burgers don’t come with a side, but there is a wide selection of sides that you can add. I had the mac and cheese burger(aka the Atomic Burger) and a side of waffle fries. It was the perfect amount of food. The mac and cheese burger was delicious and had a great amount of mac and cheese.(NOTE: I had a mac and cheese burger at another restaurant recently and it was incredibly underwhelming and lacked cheese, this one did not!) Beware, the mac and cheese is a bit spicy. The waffle fries were delicious. I love the crunchy texture and spices. I really liked the décor or old signs from Windsor hot spots like Fast Eddy’s. The restaurant/bar was small, with high top tables in addition to the bar(with stools). A great place for dinner and/or a few drinks. Prices were very affordable, and I like that you add sides separately b/c you don’t always want them yet are stuck paying for them. I think this place will be around for awhile. Love the name!
