I finally popped into Tatum’s last week as my mother and sister were shopping for a mother of the bride dress and had just been told at another bridal shop in rural Nova Scotia that they were very late in doing this and made to feel as though they needed to buy right away as most places had limited mother of the bride outfits in stock. I was greeted by Mary at Tatum’s who obviously knew every single formal dress — over 430 of them as of April 24, 2015. She showed me some beautiful dresses and allowed me to snap a couple of photos which I texted to my sister. Decision made — Saturday trip back to Windsor for some dress shopping. Mary was a wonderful help and wealth of knowledge of her products again on Saturday. She gives you honest opinions on how outfits fit and really listened to my Mom. We found a beautiful dress for my sister’s wedding that will need some minor alterations. Knowing they were from northern NS and close to a 3 hour drive away, Mary recommended my Mom look for a seamstress to do the alterations closer to home — but if she wasn’t successful in finding one, to call and they would happily do it there. We also popped in upstairs in the bridal dress section and saw lots of brides to be trying on dresses and saw an amazing selection of dresses in many sizes.

I had initially given Tatum’s Bridal a 3 star review because although they have a great selection of dress and good prices the customer service was mediocre. I have since changed my review to 1 star because of the the way in which the business expressed their anger over my 3 star review. I have never been treated with such a lack of professionalism and common courtesy. I would recommend any other bridal store Tatum’s is not worth the hassel.

When it comes to clothing, your wedding dress is possibly the most important clothing purchase you’ll even make. Tatums was the fourth wedding dress shop I had visited and I was made to feel very important and I could honestly sense the stylist’s excitment for me. She was a sweetheart. Once I had chosen the dresses I wanted to try on, the stylist suggested some others, just to see. I didn’t end up choising any other those, but we had so much fun eliminating styles. When I found«the one», you could see it in the stylist’s face(as well as my mothers!). The dress was ordered and when it came in my alterations were done by their seamstress. When it was ready, I picked up my dress in plenty of time and Tatum and her staff were all very excited for me, each step of the way. Tatum even thanked me personally for chosing them and gave me a big hug and well wishes when I came to pick up my dress, a really personal touch. They have great selection, great customer service, reasonable prices, lots of accessories and a wide selection of mother of the bride dresses as well. Yes, Tatum and her mother can be outspoken and if they don’t like the way something looks on you, they will let you know BUT, I’d much rather have an HONEST opinion rather than a salesperson who encourages you to buy ‘whatever’ just to make a sale — their reputation is on the line and they sincerely want you looking your best on your big day. I had nothing but positive things to say about how Tatums helped me with the dress of my dreams.

We have had such an unfortunate experience, given such a happy and inspiring reason to look for THE wedding dress. Tatum and staff believe, apparently, that you must take ONLY their recommendation for a dress,(as in «just my opinion, but nothing will look better», said Tatum’s Rep…‘but but it’s not what I think I want”, says the bride) and ONLY within close range of the wedding date(it is apparently guaranteed«just in their opinion» that your«taste WILL change and styles will change». That tells ME that the dresses Tatum and co. sell are fads and not intended for a lifetime of joyous memories. Wow.) We felt brushed off by our sales assistant, as she was expecting an appointment to come in shortly, so we felt hurried through the process of just a few try ons. When we later tried to make an appointment for the following Saturday so we could take more time, we were then told by Tatum that, in fact, they do NOT take appointments on Saturdays. When I told Tatum our experience, she demanded to know who the staff member was. This working environment aside, the products they sell can be bought from other stores here that embrace a much friendlier and more client oriented service policy.

I went to tatum’s after hearing good things from friends who had gotten their dresses there. My first visit to get my dress was great! They were friendly and helpful. That all changed as soon as I payed for my dress. The price of the dress was suppose to include alterations and that really including nothing. All that included was to take an inch off the bust. Which wasn’t even enough. I felt like I was pulling my dress up the whole day of my wedding. They refused to take it in around my hips even though it was too big in that area and argued with me for close to an hour about taking the train off which I said I wanted done before I purchased the dress and they said at that point that it would be no problem. The day of my fitting they said they wouldn’t do it unless I payed $ 200 to have it done. The consultant also told me that i might want to wear spanx under the dress! Which I thought was a little uncalled for. They were cranky, rude and unprofessional every other time I had to deal with them. The day I was suppose to pick up my dress I took the day off work and called them in the morning and they said it would be another hour or so before it was done being steamed. I called back two hours later and the woman on the phone said with an attitude that it wouldn’t be done that day at all. They called me a couple days later and got cranky with me because I hadn’t picked up my dress yet. Obviously I’m going to pick up my dress before my wedding! I have honestly never in my life experienced such horrible customer service. If I would have been able too I would have returned my dress and got another one somewhere else instead of having to deal with them. They gave me a lot of unnecessary stress and I wanted to write this review to hopefully save other brides the stress of having to deal with these horrible people! I went to four other dress stores around halifax and the store in Truro and would recommend any of those other shops. The only reason I am giving this place one star is because I did find a dress that I loved at Tatums but it honestly wasn’t worth the hassle!

Going to Tatums for my wedding dress was one of the best ideas I’ve had so far in regards to my upcoming wedding(other then saying yes when he proposed). I visited some Halifax Shops in October/November to get an idea of what I liked and price range as was dissatisfied with the pushy attendants. A couple of friend recommended heading up to Windsor to visit Tatums. I called ahead and they said to visit around six months before the wedding so they would have time to order in the dress and do alterations. I made an appointment and we made the drive in January. We were greeted at the door with huge smiles by our personal attendant Karrie and the owner Tatum and were asked if we were ready to get to work. We headed upstairs and Karrie asked what I was looking for. She sent us to look at the discount rack(because you never know according to her) and started to pull dresses for me. After trying on 2 dresses I knew that I had found a winner. I still tried on 6 more dresses to be sure and Karrie was very patient and encouraging me to try everything just to be sure. I did find out from the owners that the majority of wedding dress are under $ 2000 which is cheaper then in the city. It was a day of fun and happiness. Since picking my dress I have been back three times, once to help find dresses for my mother and mother in laws, once for alterations and once to pick it up. Everytime after that first time they greeted us by name and like we were old friends. There are pictures of past brides who had bought dresses from them and I was encouraged to send along a picture after the wedding. This is the place to go for personalized service and great prices. My sister and best friend are planning on visiting here for their dresses when its time. It is well worth the drive and they have an amazing selection of wedding, mothers and bridemaids dresses.
