History

Established in 1953.

Advance Electronics has been a leader in the home audio and video market in Winnipeg for over 60 years.

Arnold Frieman purchased Advance Television in 1961, then in it’s 8^th year of operation, as a two-​man TV repair shop located under the Club Morroco, Portage at Langside. In 1962 Arnold moved the company to larger premises at Sargent and McGee, concentrating on Television, Stereo and Car Radio Sales and Service. Advance became Winnipeg’s first home and mobile entertainment specialist.

New innovations, including the advent of hi-​fi components, colour television, and car stereo called for further expansion of the company.

In 1967, in keeping with Arnold Frieman’s early vision of Advance one day becoming a one-​stop location for everything in electronics — consumer and commercial — Advance moved to larger premises at 1300 Portage Ave.

Between 1970 and 1998 Advance created 4 new divisions: Advance Technical Services, Advance Pro, Advance Automotive, and Advanced Residential Technology.
