Despite living in Winnipeg, I rarely eat perogies, mostly because I find that it’s heavy and makes me sleepy. They’re good, just not conducive to me functioning at my best — LOL. Anyhow, I found this food truck on Broadway — locally owned Authentic Ukrainian Food Truck specializing in perogies that uses locally sourced ingredients. The truck is listed on facebook at 386 Broadway but I found this one on Broadway between Hargrave and Donald — regardless, it’s in the«busy food truck section of Broadway.» They offer the following perogies boiled or fried(8 perogies per order): Potato & Cheddar Cheese, Four Cheese & Potato, Meat(Beef), Spinach & Feta Cheese, Sauerkraut, Cottage Cheese & Potato and Fruit Blueberry/Sour Cherry) — Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I got the potato & cheddar cheese and it comes with bacon, caramelized onions and sour cream for $ 9 along with an order of beef cabbage rolls(4 rolls) for $ 7. I shared this meal with my food truck dining partner and it was enough for a lunch meal at 4 perogies + 2 cabbage rolls each. I’m not a connoisseur of Ukrainian food but it was a nice lunch. The perogies had good flavour and the exterior was not overly thick and had a nice texture to it(we had it boiled) and the filling was smooth and delicious. The cabbage rolls were also good and had good flavour. The food truck is a nice alternative to the pizza and taco trucks if you want to try some classic Ukranian eats.
