Been looking for Persian food since arriving here in Winnipeg. Winnipeggers, you are definitely missing out on amazingly good Persian food if you have not tried Kabob Palace! My husband and I shared the Family Kabob, which comes with basmati rice of course. Everything was cooked to perfection. We would be definitely regulars here. The owner makes the ice cream himself!

I’ve never had Persian(Iranian) food before and I must say my first try tells me that I really like Persian cuisine! Persian cuisine serves up kabobs, stews, salads with very bright and interesting flavours that range from pomegranate, saffron, lemon, nuts, dried limes to name a few. The menu here provides lots of options with appetizers $ 5-$ 9, shawarma $ 9, stews ~$ 13 and most entrees from $ 13-$ 20. I have to say that I am now officially obsessed with Persian rice. The rice they served here is amazing! Seriously. The extra long grain rice is light and fluffy — it’s like no other rice I’ve ever tasted. Apparently the rice is much more expensive than other grain types and is also cooked in a slightly different way. I love how the rice is always topped with a streak of saffron infused rice over the white rice. Zeytoon Parvardeh($ 7.99) — marinated green olives with walnuts, mountain’s herbs and spices. I’m not a fan of green olives so there’s a bias there but my dining partner really enjoyed this cold appetizer. Good to try if you enjoy olives. Mirzaghasemi($ 9.99) — BBQ eggplant, eggs, garlic and spices. Mmmm, this warm appy is absolutely delicious. It comes with pita bread to dip into this garlicky eggplant dish that’s similar to baba ghanoush. I’d order this one again for sure. Fesenjan($ 12.99) — stew of chicken breast, pomegranate paste, walnuts and spices. This is probably the dish that showcases many of the commonly used flavours like pomegranate. It was quite the tangy dish as one might imagine but still enjoyable. If you’re not up for a bit of an adventure, maybe steer away from this one. Vaziri Kabob($ 19.99) — one skewer chicken filet and one skewer ground beef w/Persian rice. For your first visit, this is probably a good dish to try. You get to try their amazing kabobs! The chicken filet is all white meat — super juicy and moist and a hint of lemon juice. The ground beef kabob has a lot of spices in it and was super tasty and tender. I could have this dish almost everyday. And yes, the rice is super tasty. Service is very warm and friendly as the owner/chef came over to the table and asked how the meal was. One might have some preconceived notions of what an eatery might look like on this strip, but this place is newly renovated(everything’s new inside), clean, warm, bright and spacious plus several security cameras too. This place has a great ambiance and vibe to it. It’s located west of Balmoral/Isabel(that street changes name at that intersection) but east of Sherbrook Street. Side note, they have a great online menu with lots of pictures so you always know what you’re ordering.
