Throughout the week I seldom have time for a sit down lunch which makes this a great option for me and my peers. The food is always perfectly done and consistent each time we go and the staff is very pleasant. The home made panini or pizza is great but I think their perogies are cheemo brand. I will continue to frequent them on a weekly basis until the perogie epidemic has been resolved.

«What do you feel like for lunch?» An oft heard question that never really has a good response. We all like certain foods but for a work lunch does anyone really care all that much? More often than not I’ll head out to the nearest gathering of food trucks to see what’s available however Marcello’s has an intriguing new option; everything. It is essentially a buffet, slightly higher quality than what you would imagine, however a wide variety of popular foods nonetheless. There is the classic Italian penne and lasagna, Canadian style Chinese, salads, a sandwich bar and a pizza bar. What makes Marcello’s unique is its pricing model, rather than the all you can eat or per item model, here you pay what your food weighs. A light lasagna lunch cost me less than $ 8, the next day I ‘chose poorly’(cue the crumbling of the walls and running from Nazis) and was out of pocket approximately $ 17. The food quality is standard lunch, right in the middle in terms of flavours and taste. The service is fast and the owners seems to be everywhere cleaning up spills, making dessert suggestions to patrons and generally smiling at everyone. The seating area is limited so you may have to find a spot outside; during the summer this is a pleasant experience, I imagine during a Winnipeg winter this is a fate worse than death. For my fellow downtown office drones any addition to the lunch options is a good thing unless we’re trying to decide what to have. In that case cut out the dithering and try Marcello’s; they’ll have something for everyone which is never a bad thing.

Great location if you work downtown and a refreshing change from the typical chain fast food restaurants. They always have a nice selection of hot dishes, salads and soups — along with the build to order sandwich bar and personal pizzas. I’m a big fan of the personal pizzas on fresh white or whole wheat crust. Be prepared to carry out at noon as it’s often difficult o find a place to sit.

Made it by here yesterday as part of a working lunch. I must say the whole group was delighted. Between the cafeteria style self serve food area, to the sandwich bar it was good. Add to this the range of things to drink(in my case flavors of coffee) had something for everyone. Overall good food and service for an OK price, the only down side is there are not enough places to sit. It is like they put this great place in, and part way through they thought oh they might need a place to sit. Yes I enjoyed it, and will be back.

Love this place. A little bit of old world service and quality on the south end of town. Needed my prosciutto fix after DeLuca’s packed up. Add some more Euro flair and snacks and it’ll be a full 5 for me. Service is awesome. Owner once redid my order because a staff member didn’t cut the steak exactly how he thought it should be done… very impressive and takes pride in his work.

It took a while but this place finally opened! I like their concept — fresh, healthy food for office workers. Downtown Winnipeg seems to be lacking in this area so it’s a nice change to see this chain open up and provide better healthier options unlike the usual Tim Hortons or Subway. This franchise is situated in the new downtown MB Hydro building on the corner of Carlton and Portage Avenue. Lucky workers to have that in their building. This place is exactly what it calls itself to be — a deli and market. There’s a sandwich station with sandwiches starting at $ 4.99 along with some pre-made ones. There’s a made to order pita pizza section where you can create your own pizza. And there’s a few soup choices. There’s a hot and cold buffet table — priced by weight, $ 1.49 per 100g. Now, normally I don’t like these types of buffet tables because who knows how long things have been sitting there. Plus there’s so many people walking about, and some people are not very sanitary when it comes to these types of things. But it looks like there’s good turnover on their first day as there was barely any hot food items when I arrived just after 1 pm. I opted to get some cold stuff — I got some marinated mushrooms, some tabouli salad and a Mediterranean mixed green salad type. In a small square styrofoam container(about a small salad sized portion) came to $ 3.40 after tax. I didn’t think it was that expensive, but I guess that can add up when you pick up heavier protein items. The food is delish, it tastes like stuff I make at home and gravitate to on a daily basis — light and healthy. The mushrooms tasted like it was marinated in herbs and lemon — yummy. The tabouli was lightly seasoned and quite good. The mediterranean salad had artichokes in there(one of the reasons why I picked this one) — it had a nice tangy vinaigrette and wasn’t not overly dressed. Nothing was overly seasoned or too salty — a plus in my books. It’s their first day so maybe that’s why they barely had any signages describing the food choices on the buffet tables. Also, it’d be nice to see some pricing on the market foods like the fruit, prepackaged to go meals and cheeses. There’s also a coffee section that serves up cappuccino, espressos, café mochas, regular coffee and tea. This place has a moderate amount of seating inside as well. Sounds like they’ll be open M-F, early in the morning till about 5 or 6 pm.
