I flew into Winnipeg late on a Sunday and was looking for a meal and some social activity. Maws was excellent. The made a special food order for me off the menu without hesitation. service was great and so was the live band and crowd. A great and unique vibe hear that is worth checking out. Great mix of people and ages.

From all the good food reviews, our group of 6 expected a great meal… Unfortunately, it was quite the opposite. The six of us booked a reservation for dinner. When we arrived, we were seated at a two person couch with four large leather arm chairs to its side. These were surrounding two rounded top chests that were supposed to be our tables. You can’t put plates on a rounded top chest, so we had to eat in our laps. When we asked if we could have a table, they said no… but that we could eat next door if all we wanted was bar snacks. We told them we booked for dinner, not snacks. This was just the beginning… The waitress was clueless… The salads that arrived with our meals were missing the cheese(which when pointed out, we were told«oh yeah… We ran out») and weren’t what we ordered. The food was incredibly bland and flavourless(in fact one of us didn’t even finish her meal). The steak sandwiches were all cooked wrong, and things were missing from the plate. They also screwed up the gift certificates that we had. In the their defence, they attempted to make some things right, but nothing could make up for the failure of an evening. I wouldn’t go back.

Group of three for lunch. Holiday menu was in effect so menu was one page, but choices were all comfort food with a twist which was great. Had the bacon cheese poutine, but was disappointed as the description said it had a fried egg on it, but received it without and then the waitress said it didn’t come with one.(Maybe they should change the menu description then, just a thought). Otherwise. I probably would have ordered something else. The vibe of the place was retro cool which I liked a lot. Nice touch with the use of the palettes on the ceiling. Definitely come back again.

This place is SO pretty. It’s certainly not like anywhere else in Winnipeg. It has a dark décor with wood, metal and kind of looks like the inside of someone’s private study/library. It’s intimate and comfortable while still being trendy. The food and drinks were a little pricey, but it matched the area. The menu was somewhat small though and I wasn’t a huge fan of the selection. I ended up having the Ukranian plate and being Ukranian myself I’m always super picky. I’ve never found a spot that gets cabbage rolls correct so my hopes weren’t too high to begin with, but their perogies were decent! I would come back again if I am downtown!

This place does have a cool vibe and relaxing vibe. The former night club has been converted into a bar and is connected to the restaurant that you enter from the Princess Street side. Their lunch menu is not very large at all — one page that’s it. Got the«A cheeseburger! part deux: the Charlie Sheen»($ 16) — double beef patty, bacon, cheese and jalapeño relish. It comes with salad or crispy fries. It’s not a massive double burger compared to others I’ve seen but it’s a good size. The burger is very juicy and gets very messy quickly. Actually, my burger fell apart within the first few bites so I wasn’t a fan of that. The structure didn’t hold up and the flavours were solid but not amazing. I didn’t really taste too much of the jalapeño relish. The fries were nice and crispy which is a plus in my books. Overall, the burger is solid but not memorable for me. The rest of the menu looks interesting so I’d definitely come back. There’s a quirky twist to most of the menu items which piques my interest. Service was good as waters were filled on a timely basis.

Cool vibe and great atmosphere in the heart of the exchange in the same building as the old republic nightclub. Had the wings and they were awesome. The menu looks great, I’ll definitely be back to try some of the other dishes. Live music is the icing on the cake as far as coolness factor goes.
