Stay away from this business! In April 2015 we took in our Kenmore canister vacuum and paid $ 22.59 for an estimate of the cost to repair the handle. The vacuum cleaner was working, but there was a problem with the electrical connection in the handle of the power-mate. We received a call a few days later from Igor. He said the motor was shot and said it would cost $ 250 to repair. He offered to sell us a new vacuum. He also said the filters were filthy. In fact I had replaced them before taking it in. I didn’t believe the motor was shot, and didn’t authorize the repair. When I went to pick it up, Igor(or Ogre) brought out the power-mate attachment. I asked where the rest of it was. He motioned for me to follow him to the back of the store where he pointed at a pile of rubble. It was the vacuum cleaner, overflowing with a stack of metal parts. the machine was completely destroyed. Stupified, I said, «What have you done?» He yelled, «GETOUTOFMYSTORE. TAKEIT(the rubble) ANDGETOUT!» His manner was very threatening. Fearing for our safety, we got out, leaving the rubble that was our vacuum cleaner behind.

I never notice these small specialty shops until I actually need something. I needed a new vacuum bag and it seems like none of the obvious big box stores sell them. I don’t understand why the vacuum industry produces so many different types of vacuum bags — agh! Anyhow, I noticed Morell’s Vacuum and Appliance as I was walking down Fort Street — it’s somewhere between the Pyramid Cabaret and Winnipeg Square. It’s a small shop that has a wall dedicated to vacuum bags and other small appliances. Service is really helpful so I’d definitely come back again. The staff really know their stuff as I was inquiring about a future purchase — they weren’t pushy but definitely shared their pros and cons on the brand I was asking about. Nice to support these small businesses as opposed to say a big box store!
