Winnipeg is not known for their fresh seafood. With that said, and with great risk of dropping dead, I decided to give this place a go. The place had 0 Asian customers, which usually makes one question the authticity of the food. Then again, this IS Winnipeg after all. It’s run by a nice Asian couple, and it looks like they don’t expect too many customers either. There’s a sushi display in there, and today there was 1(yes, ONE) tiny little box of sushi in the entire rack. That was a good chuckle. The décor and interior were clean, but definitely not authentic. How was the food? I ordered a Combo 3A(bakudan roll, Alaska roll, salmon and tuna sushi, miso soup). It was over $ 12. Since I ordered take-out, I grabbed the bag and ran out with it. The presentation and the look of the sushi was great, but here is where things fell apart. The miso had well, no miso inside. The soup was basically completely clear with a couple of small dots of miso at best. It was also the saltiest miso I had never had. The Alaska roll were literally the size of maki rolls you’d find elsewhere. You can get California rolls in Vancouver that are larger than this. And by Alaska, they really meant salmon + avocado. The mayo and teriyaki sauce up top were a nice touch. I had no idea what a bakudon roll was. A Google search turned up nothing useful as well. Well, this is basically tuna + a pile of tempura crumbs. I thought the decorative tempura crumbs were up top for decoration, but nope, these took up half the space of the sushi pieces too. The sushi was crunchy. The nigiri sushi were a bit smaller, but there were actually okay. The quality of the food wasn’t bad surprisingly, but I was laughing and blowing tempura bits at everyone all lunch time today.
