When me and my daughter got there, though there was no greeter, we were just looking at the menu and contemplating if we wanted to here or somewhere else. The greeter, our server, came over just as we decided to try this place out. We decided to sit in the dining room area because it was quieter and more spacious. The décor is subtle and not overly cliché like so many other restaurants. Since it’s very close to Christmas the place, like the rest of the Forks, wasn’t very busy. I like that. The theme was all in the food. It was the best food I have eaten at a family-friendly restaurant. The waiter came by to get our drink orders shortly after we seated. We ordered mocktails, the Blueberry Frost and the Cranberry Bubble. Due to it being alcohol-free, the Blueberry Frost wasn’t blue but was delicious and unique to any other mocktail we’ve had. The waiter was very honest as to how our altered drinks were going to turn out. The only critique I have is that the glasses were a bit tall so you have to hold it off the table. However, the one drink lasted the whole meal. We ordered the Flash Fried Calamari appetizer and we were impressed. The calamari rings were a good size, nicely battered and fried, not overly greasy and came with some fresh coleslaw on the side. The service was very nice. The waiters seemed genuine and really wanted to make sure you had a great time. My daughter ordered the Bison Ribs and originally asked for mashed potatoes, but got scalloped instead. The waiter brought this mix-up to her attention when she got her food and, before she said anything, he instantly apologized and gave her the option for complimentary fries or mashed potatoes. She opted the fries. Her Bison ribs were fall-of-the-bone and pleasantly tasty. The fries were quite good. I ordered the Kettle of Fish Paella. I’ve never had paella before. It’s a bit spicy but not unbearable. The food was cooked well and tasted great. The portions are big and we did have to have much of it to go, but then we get to enjoy it again later. The service was on point. The waiter came to our table minimal times, which I like, so we weren’t interrupted numerous times throughout our meal. We were not rushed and found the atmosphere relaxing and inviting. The waiter was not eager to have us leave and gave me a chance to request the dessert menu. My daughter had the Strawberry Cheesecake and I order the Peaches and Cream crêpe. I thought the desserts were going to be large and rich. We were delighted that they weren’t overly large and surprisingly not very heavy. Not light, but not heavy. The cheesecake was superb and the crêpe was yummy. All the food tasted real and not heavily processed like you get with so many other restaurants. There were other young children there and they were well-behaved. The place is not overly dressy but not super casual. It’s a place you should be dressed nicely for. The price. When we looked at the menu, I kind of saw that this was a pricier place to eat so I was expecting to pay over $ 100. But with the quality of everything and the experience, I think it was worth it. We left feeling satisfied and digested it well. We will definitely return, even if just for dessert since they are all a flat price of $ 8.

After reading nothing but negative reviews of The Beachcomber, I have to chime in with my experience there. Our hosts in the Peg brought us to The Beachcomber last Friday evening. Weather was perfect to sit outside with a kid. Not too hot and not too cool. Service was second to none. Visiting from BC where seafood is abundant. We still ended up ordering seafood. The mussels and Seafood bake was excellent. I’ve eaten almost every type of fish that reside in the fresh and salt waters of BC and the Arctic Char I had at Beachcomber’s was just as tasty or better than most fish out west. Our server was fast, friendly and right on par with our order. None of that fake, flirtatious bs you get with 99% of the servers in the food industry. Our whole table had no complaints with anything there. We will make sure to do it all again when we come back next spring.

The setting is the best thing about this place and it’s such a shame the food is so ordinary and over priced. My burger was passable but the fries were luke warm and soggy, despite my request to make sure they were hot. I know they are bad when my husband won’t eat them! Also, if you ask for tap water they serve it in disposable cups rather than glasses.

This place really frustrated me. The stars are all for the view and the food. Service was bizarre… Took host forever to greet us, took forever to get drinks and food, she brought the wrong drink at first, didn’t refill waters — over 40 mins for food and they were not packed. They also had to remove the umbrellas on the patio after we had been sitting out there because the wind apparently blew a couple over and hit people… Uhm, ok?! Husband had fish and chips and I had the Miami club, both good. But it’s not as enjoyable when you have to wolf it down because it took forever and you’re struggling to keep your body out of the intense sun because they took the umbrellas!

Great food with fresh ingredients. Stuffed Pickerel was awesome and very well done. Service was awful! Saw our server three times. 20 minutes from seating to beverages and 20 minutes to get the bill. Seems like they were short staffed… Food is excellent, but be prepared to wait and not be treated well…

My husband, mother in law and I had a dinner at Beachcomber on a Friday night. We arrived at 5 with not many other patrons in the establishment, drinks were ordered and arrived in a timely manner. The waitress was good but the meal was not worth the amount we paid. I had the pickerel fillet, the fillets(2) were very good but the potatoes(4) slices not great and the broccoli ok for $ 25 I was expecting more, my husband had the battered pickerel with fries and was disappointed that the fries were cold, my mother in law had the chicken fingers with fries and although there were a lot of fries they also were not hot. I would not recommend the Beachcomber.

Stopped in last night for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. My colleague and I started with the calamari, I had a seafood pasta while he had a seafood Cesar salad. Everything was delicious and filling! Great service! Would go back.

4 of us had great meals for lunch. Miami club sandwich was awesome. Mandarin stir fry was savoury, articulate and satisfying. The black bean quesadilla was filling as well the Cajun wrap was tasty and spicy! Service was really good as well.

These mid-range restaurants can never seem to get French fries right. Ours were cold and stale by the time they reached our table. With a menu where French fries accompany many, many menu items, this restaurant is really serving fast food slightly gussied up, with a premium price. Why can’t they get the fries as piping hot as McDonald’s? For twice the price of a McDonald’s meal, I expect the fries to be outstanding — along with the rest of the menu items.

Had the ginger beef again. It was served on a bed of instant rice?! For the prices they charge I feel this is unacceptable. A friend I was with mentioned you can’t order those types of meals here. Stick to burgers and steak.

I cannot speak to what the others experienced to give such mixed reviews but I can say that our experience here was very very good. Decided to make a day trip to Winnipeg as my kids had never been out of the country. Go figure that we live so near the Mexican boarder and we had to travel 2000 miles to give them that experience. Sure, I think they though it was going to be something magical however if we didn’t have to physically stop at the boarder, I don’t think they would have known the difference other than some signs being written in French. What that explanation has to do with a review of The Beachcomber? Nothing! Just providing a little back story. So, back in the homeland and looking for something to day, we decided to make a day trip to Winnipeg and see some sights. Having been probably 25 years since I’d been there last, we decided to go and visit The Forks. The Forks is basically a large farmers market with several museums and restaurants throughout to entertain all ages. Decided to stop by The Beachcomber before we got stated on our adventure. We had the choice of being seated inside or out. Being that the day was cooler than normal, we opted to dine inside in their sun room allowing us to have the view of the outside while not being exposed to the wind outside. They have a pretty decent menu overall and with a party of 6, there was something for us all to enjoy. I won’t bore you with all the meal details but I will say this, the Taco Salad was surprisingly very good and extremely filling. Again, I live next to Mexico so my expectations weren’t all that great. A couple others at the table ordered their Blazing Wings. Now while they weren’t the hottest wings I’ve ever had, I’m going to tell you that they provided a lot more kick than I expected. I just may have felt a tear forming out of the corner of my eye. Once think I enjoy when going to a new place is trying out their beer menu. Here I had an Alexander Keith’s IPA(ok, I had two). Not has hoppy as I’m used to but a nice flavor and a refreshing aftertaste. What stood out for our expedience here was the staff. From the hostess who seated us quickly in a prime location to our server who returned frequently to make sure we had everything we needed. Another thing about the server, she was very knowledgeable about the menu. Asked her about one item and she admitted it wasn’t a favorite. I appreciate when the staff isn’t just trying to make any sale possible even if the item was at a higher price. As I started out, mixed reviews on this place but for this particular patron, while it wasn’t a hat trick, it was definitely two goals with an assist thrown in there.

Went for dinner with one of my friends. We ordered seafood paella and a seafood Ceasar. They were both excellent. I’ve been here before a few times for lunch but today was the first time for dinner. Just one minor complain tho. The hostess was super sweet but she said the manager would only allow her to seat guests at certain tables although the patio was pretty empty. So we didn’t get to sit where we wanted. But the food and service made up for it.

Went for lunch, was recommended however was not allowed to order from dinner menu and everything I wanted in terms of seafood was on dinner menu. Had the frozen lime margarita and it was salty. Also the Maui burger seemed soggy. Do not recommend lunch, didn’t like it.

We had brunch here the other day and it was great! We were blown off at the Pancake House at the other end of the market, and trying The Beachcomber was a great stroke of luck! The service was slow — well, it wasn’t the server — I have a feeling the guys int he kitchen were alseep. We placed our order and almost 30 minutes after we got our food. But our server and the manager were very friendly and attentive. The fod was worth the wait.

I really wish there were more interesting and delicious sit down restaurants at the Forks! The Beachcomber is so-so…great patio area to enjoy the scenery, drinks and the sunshine. The food is okay but I find the overall wait to be extraordinarily long. I hadn’t been back in a while due to poor food and service a couple of summers ago. I went back recently for a patio lunch with a friend and I have to say the service we received was really friendly and helpful. The server told me NOT to order some a few of the dishes because she said it was very bland. LOL… I was happy she was so honest! Anyways, I went with the chicken pita($ 12) — I swapped the fries for a side caesar salad. The thing that was a bit annoying was that we didn’t receive our lunch for 40 mins. We arrived well after 1:30 pm on a Tuesday so the restaurant wasn’t packed by any means so I am not sure about the long wait. We enjoyed the great weather and I didn’t have to be back at work immediately so that was okay but I’d say it’s tough to do lunch in a reasonable amount of time during the workweek here. Anyhow, the chicken pita was more like a flat bread that was folded up with a few small slices of chicken, red onions, tomatoes, lettuce and aioli. The chicken was a little bland and a tad dry but the flat bread was well seasoned and had a nice taste to it. The caesar salad was the usual though a bit over dressed. And the side coleslaw was dressed in a cream sauce and had a good tang to it. Overall, this place offers lunch meals between $ 12-$ 16 for salads, wraps, burgers etc that aren’t exciting but will please a crowd. But this place is best reserved for just drinks on a nice sunny day.

This is one of the few places at the Forks that had a mid range meal that’s not a bar. The other is the Old Spaghetti Factory. Everything on this menu seems to be $ 4 overpriced. I got the Asparagus and Mushroom ricotta ravioli with cream sauce. It was very good, but they served it with a lot of huge mushrooms that were not sliced. While it was a lot of mushrooms, it just means that the kitchen was too lazy to cut them up. Not good. I got a Sangria and it was very good, and very strong. I think it has to be up there on the list of best Sangrias. However, I was on my own, and I couldn’t finish it. I think this place is good for drinks and sharing appetizers. They have ‘tapas’ which essentially is a list of well priced appetizers that a group can get.

The best thing about this restaurant is the patio for people watching. Food was ok — had the The Margaritaville Platter(Spinach & Artichoke Dip with Tortilla Chips, Jalapeño Popcorn Shrimp, Island Drums, Calamari with Aoli Sauce) $ 30.95. The best thing on the platter was the Spinach & Artichoke Dip. The Calamari was tender but the Aoli Sauce bland. The Jalapeño Popcorn Shrimp had no trace of jalapeño which was ok because the Island Drums(Jerk Sauce) was had more than enough jalapeño’s. My Hurricane drink didn’t have much flavor and was quickly watered down by all the ice. Would go again but just for the people watching
