This place is pretty sketch. I would stick to the coffee and maaaaaybe the deserts. Passable for a late-night eats, their calzones are okay, too.

Spent countless summers at Nonna’s house around the corner. This place is a one-stop shop almost anything you need. Tasty veal, chicken cutlets, and tripe. The bread is always fresh and flakey, beautiful pastries and an authentic Italian bakery charm. The veal tastes even better at 3am on the way home from a night out.

The sauce is to die for! We live in Wasaga Beach and whenever we’re in the area(either of the two) we always stop in for either their veal or meatball sandwich with mushrooms & peppers smothered in their incredible sauce. And we just ‘have’ to grab some of those sweet buns if(anyone knows the name of them please tell me), sometimes they have raisins in them but we like the plain ones. Ohhh so good.

There is a reason that all the nonnas and nonnos swarm this place early Saturday and Sunday mornings — absolutely great bread. Best Italian bread in Toronto. Often there are four distinct types of bun. It really is a staple for local Italian families for good reason. The rest? Meh. They often have good sales on Barilla pasta. The Brio is always cold. There are some Italian oils, an olive bar, specialty pastas, but nothing to write home about. I haven’t tried the canoli. Their cold cut counter is pretty limited. They have minimum orders on cheese and cold cuts(usually 100 grams). The hot plate is not consistent — the quality of sausages vary depending on the batch, veal sandwiches are hit and miss depending on how long they’ve been sitting out, but the pizza is pretty good. Stick to the cheese-only pizza. Strange thing with the pizza is that they put the toppings underneath the cheese, which makes for very flaccid pepperoni or sausage. Sometimes you order a cheese and pepperoni pizza slice from someone behind the counter that wasn’t on shift when the pizza was made and doesn’t know which slice is which and because you can’t see the toppings you end up with a piece that has tomato or eggplant underneath all that cheese. Weird.

Found a nasty fly in my meatball sauce(refer to picture). Won’t be visiting again for quite some time. Before the fly incident though, I thought the food was okay. Not bad for 4 am. Would’ve given this place 3 stars if not for the fly. EHHHHH!!!

What this place lacks in décor it more than makes up for in the quality of food. If you are looking for really great Italian comfort food, baked goods and dessert the you need to go here. Had the rice and cheese ball as well as a pepperoni calzone. The crust for both items were golden brown, super crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. On a side note, I was 50 cents short on my tab and could have easily paid it with the twenty I had in my pocket. Instead of making me break that $ 20 the man at the cash said don’t worry about it; next time. Oh good sir, I will definitely be a repeat customer now!

Came here after a long Sunday afternoon walk. Did not expect to find such treats inside such a sketchy looking exterior. TRY the Cannoli. Omg its great. Sweet and dreamy. A frenzied Canada Goose even tried to steal one as we continued our walk. Thats how good it was. Can’t wait to go back and try the hot table.

The zeppole are super amazing. The people are super nice. I haven’t had any of the lunch foods but the veal sandwiches look amazing. I will update when I try more! Oh and beware — cash only!

this place is one of my favorite places later at night. i usually go for the veal sandwich its usually always good, not the best veal ive had, but still really good. I always get a fresh bun from the bakery section(located in the back) the regular bread they use for the sandwiches is NOT good. ive got other stuff as well, pizza, lasagna. again, it was good. i would recommend this place if its late night or evening and most other places are closed as its open 24⁄7. or heck, even lunch.

THESAUCE, THESAUCE, THESAUCEISONFIRE!!! I love unassuming restaurants! My co-worker and I started talking walks during lunch this week because of the warm weather and melting snow :) Yay puddles! This routine was broken yesterday when we both didn’t bring lunch and the KFC next door didn’t look appealing. So we drove to Commisso which I have bookmarked since I started this job in December. It was a little tricky getting there because it seems that Keele St, splits and gets a little weird north of Eglinton. When we finally got there though, we pulled up to a convenience store looking place which a lot of cars parked out front. When we got in we realized why… 2 large counters of hot table choices(sandwiches, pastas, rice balls, antipasto, salads, and meat pies). They also have a huge dessert sections(although their cheesecake was a bit dried on the corners) including traditional italian treats like cannolis and biscottis. They are cash only so bring some moolah and you can pick up some basic groceries and fresh bread while you are there. A huge piece of their lasagna is only $ 5.00 and their sandwiches are huge, probably double in size of California Sandwiches, although their meat is thinner. Top em with peppers, mushrooms and sauce and it’s all included. As stated in the first part of this review, the sauce is what makes the meal here! I’ll be back for their catering services and take out again soon. It looks like they have outdoor seating in the summer(i really hope so) and everyone is very friendly and efficient there!

Italian comfort food — may not be your restaurant quality food such as presentation nor the 5-star restaurant service, and what have you, but it’s still good. From the reviews below, I see that the food is a hit or miss. It’s always been a hit for me. It’s also very affordable. A great perk is that they’re opened 24⁄7. Cannolis are delish as well Want Italian food late at night? In the area? Try this place out.

tried a breaded chicken sandwich from commisso’s for what will be the last time. the chicken was as tough as leather — a HUGE disappointment. what happened you guys? also…it’s cash only now, no credit. somehow this doesn’t surprise me given this place’s history

This is a real Italian bakery open 24 hours a day. If perchance you’re craving a cannoli at an odd hour of the night, this is the place to come to. They have all kinds of different breads and pastries, along with a good hot table. You can also buy different Italian snacks and drinks. The prices are good, but the food does sit out in the open for quite a while. It’s not always the best tasting because of that, but it’s cheap and convenient. I always come here in the evening, but maybe if you came earlier in the day you’d get some really good, fresh stuff. Overall, if you’re not looking for anything too fancy, this place is pretty darn good.

Great veal on a bun and great prices. Surly counter staff though. Great customer service would have me here all the time!

I would only go here if it’s late at night when your only other options are mcd’s or tims. The place is not well taken care of. The bread is nothing special. Food at the hot table is hit or miss. I’ve had great experiences and I’ve had forgettable ones. Unfortunately you don’t know until you take a bite

This place has gone down-hill big time since the original owner was shot in the parking lot(true story, mob hit most likely in 1997). As a kid, this place had the best hot plate italian food bar none. The gnocchi and chicken cutlet on a bun with mushrooms and sauce is still my favourite. Nowadays, food is left for dozens of hours on end, and pasta is rock-hard by the time you get it. Not recommended anymore, just a simple, cheap italian hot plate restaurant, very little seating, and whatever seating that is available outside is absolutely filthy. The owners just dont care anymore. Baked goods and pastries on the other hand, are absolutely amazing here, hence the 2nd star. The canolli and cheesecake here are awesome.

When you need to satisfy that«comfort food» craving, you need to head to Commisso’s. Don’t let the décor or location fool you, this is that old school, back home bakery. Not easy to find a place like this nowadays. The sauce is amazing, it’s got that«my grandma made this» taste. I’ve been here numerious times and it’s aways the Veal Sandwich & pizza round I go for no matter how much I want to try something new. Comfort food at it’s finest. Only reason why it’s getting 4⁄5 stars from is, they have no place for you to sit breifly to enjoy that great tasting food.

I’ve eaten from Commisso’s a bunch of times, and based on the day, my star rating would vary, but tonight was one of those ‘off’ nights. It gets points and the patented Dave-thumbs-up for being open 24/7, but I’m just not impressed by the food itself. It could perhaps be in part due to the late hours in which I frequent the place, but it’s rare when my order tastes fresh. Occasionally the sandwiches are perfect. Sadly, most days the bread is rock-hard, the meats taste as though they’ve been sitting around for a while, and the pizza/panzo’s are way too greasy. Having a little grease with your pizza deliciousness is one thing. Having more grease inside your panzo than cheese is quite another, which was the unfortunate hellzoratti I had tonight. TMI, but I’m pretty sure if I pee sometime soon, it’s coming out orange. Happy halloween! The only way they’ve ever been consistent for me is with their pasta, which I would happily recommend. And to be fair, there are still many things there that I have yet to try, and their prices are always great. Note: This is the first review I’ve done that not only described the food in question, but any and all after-effects from eating it. I’m officially past the point of no return. Pray for me. Oh and recommend me a more consistent late-night italian joint.

My dad discovered this place in the 70s and has been going there regularly ever since. The hot table is the best I’ve tried. It’s the standard by which I compare all other hot tables, and so far they have all come up short compared to Commisso’s. It’s all about the sauce, which is very greasy and soaks through any container, paper bag or plastic that you carry the food in. Whether you get the veal sandwich, lasagna or pasta, it’s the sauce that makes it so good. You can get other stuff here too, like freshly baked bread, olives, rum-soaked Italian pastries. You can call it «Satriales» Sopranos fans know what I’m talking about.
