When you walk up to the second floor of the Tirso de Molina, you don’t think you will come across a cute outdoor café like that of Soledad and her husband. Their aim is to having their«guests» feel like they are in a home away from home. Soledad and her husband sit and talk with everyone of their clients making them feel welcome in this bustling open market. They serve real coffee with fresh beans, resulting in a delicious espresso. They offer all different types of coffees such as lattes, cortados and cappuccinos as well as a variety of different teas. However, I recommend their Spanish hot chocolate. It is a rich, smooth chocolate dream, heating up even the coldest of Santiago’s winter days. All of their pastries are homemade either by them or local artisans. I recommend trying their«la torta de la abuelita» a moist white cake with manjar and whip cream dusted with coconut and chopped nuts on top. Or if you are craving some kuchen, try their delicious pie with fresh apples and cinnamon filling topped with a light layer of powdered sugar. It really is Coffee and a little something more… Tip: You can order your own cake for either birthdays, going aways or just for fun by calling them with at least 24 hours of notice. If you want to drink one of their dark roasts but don’t want the caffeine they now offer decaffeinated coffee! Like all of the stores in the Tirso de Molin, bring cash. They are closed on Mondays.
