La Tía Ruth

Para muchos pasa inadvertido este palacio de la comida típica chilena y muuuy barata, que se encuentra en nuestra Vega Central.
Muy rica la comida donde la Tia Ruth, la semana pasada fui dos veces, la primera comí un delicioso costillar con papad cocidas, y la segunda una Paila Marina que no me pude comer entera por lo grande que era, y que por lo demás, tenía una asombrosa presentación con fuego en el plato.
El plato incluye un jugo, ensalada, y pan con pebre. Lo mas barato 3.000 CLP, y lo mas caro 5.000 CLP.
La raja, como decimos los chilenos. Lo único malo es el acceso, pero creo que es parte de la experiencia Chilean Food.

After a week of seeking out authentic Chilean food/​experience all over Santiago Centro, I can honestly say that this place was my favourite.
This could quite possibly be because it’s SO CHEAP (I love cheap stuff), but to be truthful the food was the tastiest Chilean fare I managed to try here in Santiago.
The location is tricky to find but its in the main food hall of La Vega and there are dozens of restaurants all located together in an open air, dingy space.
I recommend the cazuela de vacuno (a traditional dish, basically a stew with a chicken soup like broth, a large piece of slow cooked beef, a wedge of pumpkin and a potato stewed with some other vegetables). This came with a side starter salad and soup, all for the price of 2,500 CLP. I also tried the cazuela de ave (same thing but with a ¼ chicken instead of the beef) on another occasion.

One of the «picadas» of the Vega Chica is by far that of Tia Ruth. If you are looking for an excellent taste of Chile that doesn’t hurt your wallet, this is the place!
The quality and simplicity of these dishes make Tia Ruth’s stand out from the other offerings in the Vega Chica. Although, you must keep in mind this is a true whole in the wall, kind of dingy (with cats and all) but it is all part of the experience!
This small restaurant has great service where the waiters always make you feel welcome (plus, they will let you know what is best to order that day… if something isn’t as fresh they will be honest). They always have menus with a starter of soup and salad, juice and bread and pebre!
If you are a vegetarian, this is not the place for you, but if you eat meat there are tons of different options. I suggest ordering the mechada or costillar (perfect if you are struggling from last night’s carrete)! Also, can’t go without mentioning the fried fish with rice — yum!

Como me pasa algunas veces, son los extranjeros los que nos muestran la propia ciudad. Unos amigos argentinos malabaristas me llevaron a su lugar favorito para almorzar en Santiago y desde ahí es uno de mis lugares favoritos para almorzar en la vega también.
Picada clásica de malabaristas, cantantes de micro, artistas, etc. la Tía Ruth es una de las picadas claves de la Vega. Porque además de barato y de ser muy rico, es abundante. Los platos incluyen sopa, ensalada, pan y jugo.
Tiene almuerzo a esa hora que uno está despertando de haber salido el día anterior o que todavía siguió carreteando. Ojalá si vas, seas paciente con los mil shows, con las mil historias y personas que ir{an a interactuar contigo a la mesa
Cuando alguien me invita a almorzar un domingo, el primer lugar que viene a mi cabeza.
