Hlavní nádraží Praha

Officially Wilson station, named after US president Woodrow Wilson. It´s a mix of art nouveau, neo-​Renaissance and modern style. There has been a reconstruction recently and it helped a lot. It used to be a dirty place for junkies, drug dealeŕs etc. And it´s actually nice now. A lot of shops, restaurants and other services. It´s easy to buy tickets, even if there is a long line, it goes pretty fast. Plus beautiful Café named after architect Josef Fanta. I think that we have one of the most beautiful main railway stations in Europe and reconstruction is still not over.

VERY SHORT TIMES. The platform assignments were very short. I was waiting on a train to dresden and I and 100’s of my closest friends only had 15 mins to get to the train, board, find our seats before the train left the station. Ended up standing for the first 45 mins due to the fact that we had to get on the train in a random spot, as not to be left behind…

Really easy to get in and out of and very centralized relative to city center. This particular station is actually really crowded depending on the time of day but the trains seem to flow pretty much on time. Finding your train can be a bit difficult at times as the tracks don’t make perfect sense at first but you eventually get the hang of it. The overall appearance of this place seems renovated yet still aesthetically displeasing for some reason. Overall, it may not be the sexiest station but it gets you to/​from your destination relatively easy.

There is a bio food bistro with healthy food. In Teta drogerie in front of bio bistro you can buy the cheapest water and drinks on Main Station Prague. In ground floor there is a Billa supermarket which is not expensive too.

Nice train station with lots of shopping and cafes. Wish I had time to do some shopping!

It is a LOT better than it used to be back in the 90’s or early 2000’s. It would have been beyond your wildest imagination if you had seen such a horrible place in the center of Prague. The renovation did this place a huge favor because drunkards or drug adicts were common inside, scent of urine and other unidentifiable things was present etc. Now it’s clean at least. Yet, as somebody mentions, not aesthetically pleasing. On the other hand, now you have many stores (like a bookstore which is my favorite).
Seeing wonderfully renovated Fanta’s Café is a true feast for my eyes. Who hasn’t seen this place prior to the reconstruction wouldn’t probably believe me how this place has changed for the better.
Now I just wish that ugly freeway to be removed…

A decent and clean train station but not very aesthetically pleasing.
Also very little seating if your train is 30 minutes late.

This is the main train station in Prague. It is clean and easy to navigate. They also have a decent amount of stores open if you need to do some last minute shopping for gifts before you leave town. You may want to arrive a little bit early for a train so you can figure out the layout. Most of the signs here are in Czech, but easy to figure out where you are going with a little time.

As far as train stations go (and me, with my limited exposure to them), we had no problems here. This is surprising mostly because we do not speak Czech, so though navigation was a bit dicey, we had no issues finding the correct platform.
We wanted to take a train from Praha to Kutna Hora. We knew the time of the train, and we knew how much it’d cost for a round-​trip ticket. What we didn’t know was where to purchase the tickets, so our first stop was an information booth. The gentleman there was more than helpful, giving us very explicit directions on how to get to the ticket purchasing area.
The signs overhead were also helpful, though the directions were what got us to the correct place. Once there, we were able to purchase our round-​trip tickets, and then headed up to the lobby to stare at the Departures board for a bit.
After several long minutes, our train showed up with the corresponding platform information. Now, I said earlier that we had no problem finding our platform, and this is true, but what I didn’t mention is that we followed two ladies to the correct platform, based on a guess that they were headed in the same direction.

The platform itself was fine, if a little spare. Not that it mattered much — we didn’t have to stand around for very long.
I will say that the station is much bigger than it appears from the outside. I felt like we walked for a ways from the board to the platform, but it wasn’t terrible.

The main station on Wilson Street named after US president Wilson. This isn’t a mega station like in Munich or Amsterdam, but if you have experience catching trains at Penn or Grand Central then you should be able to figure out the video monitors.
Sometimes the trains do not appear on the monitors and they are announced in Czech only at the last minute, so unless you now czech numbers, but don’t worry, the private carriers like RegioJet I think have a specific platform and there are departure boards on each of the platforms.
There is also Prague metro stop for the Red line which is just one stop away from Florenc to transfer to the yellow or Museum for the Green, which on a nice day is worth walking to since the Muzeum station is right on Vaclavske Namesti. The station also has some shopping, free internet downstairs in the ticketing and information center, and a supermarket (currently Albert) in case you need to buy some snacks and beer for a long train ride.
The second story dome was just renovated to its pre WWII condition and is a nice place to hang out. It is also where you get on the Student Agency buses.

I would suggest that if yoga re traveling within Europe then take the train as is can be cheaper if booked in advance and it is a nice comfortable ride with a bistro on the train that has pretty good food and wine and beer along with spirits. I would recommend if you can getting a seat in the bistro for a bit so you can see the beautiful country side of Europe.
The depot itself I can say one thing. If you sense of direction is bad then be prepared. It is easy to get lost and the «information» desk here are not helpful at all. I had more help from a fellow traveler and a group of missionaries than I did from the people that worked here. I came out of this depot twice while in the Czech Republic. Once to go to Kuntá Hora and the second time to go to Berlin. The ride to Berlin was beautiful and very comfortable. I would recommend this place just prepare to get some bad service from those working here at the information desk.

Relatively easy to use. Escalator up and down to most platforms. Where there isn’t one down from the platform, there’s a ramp. There’s also an elevator on most platforms. The station has a supermarket, Sephora, Claire’s, clothing shops, even a chocolate shop. I wouldn’t visit this place for the architecture but it’s mildly interesting. I’d try to avoid it at night because once you leave the station, you have to walk through the park until you reach the street for a tram or taxi and the park is full of junkies and homeless.

Riesiger Bahnhof mit mehreren Hallen für Anschlüsse an Züge, die U-​Bahn, Taxen, Busse, Shopping und Ess-​Möglichkeiten.
Total unübersichtlich! Man sollte lieber etwas mehr Zeit einplanen um sich dort zurecht zu finden. Nach dem Weg fragen ist nicht so leicht weil viele kein Englisch sprechen.
Wer gedenkt mit dem Taxi zu fahren sollte im Vorwege den Preis absprechen!

What is there not to love about this historic train station?
The best bramboráky, smažený sýr, and párky v rohlíku anywhere as well… junk food elevated!!!
Anywhere your heart desires… go from the heart of Central Europe! Easy to find cheap housing, because they will approach you as long as you are standing:)
Remember: price differences between RYCHLÉ and OSOBNÝ vlak. Former is express and costs more. I recall on weekends, there were these discounts that we took advantage of.
Wonderful and buzzing train station.

Der Prager Hauptbahnhof hieß dereinst ‘Kaiser Franz Josefs-​Bahnhof’ und wurde im Jahr 1871 entlang der Strecke von Wien über Budweis geführten Franz-​Josefs-​Bahn gegründet. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wurde der Bahnhof nach dem amerikanischen Präsidenten Woodrow Wilson in Wilson-​Bahnhof (Wilsonovo nádraží) umbenannt, In Verbindung mit dem Bau der Prager U-​Bahn erhielt der Hauptbahnhof um 1970 eine neue, zweiteilige, teilweise in den Hang eingebaute Eingangshalle. Im ersten Teil der Halle befinden sich die Zugänge zu den Bahnsteigen der im Jahr 1974 in Betrieb genommenen U-​Bahn, dahinter die Fahrkartenschalter. Über Treppen gelangt man in den zweiten Teil der Halle, der vorrangig als Wartebereich genutzt wird. Von hier aus erreicht man über die vorhandenen Fußgängertunnel die Bahnsteige. Die Dachflächen der Eingangshalle werden als Parkflächen für Kraftfahrzeuge genutzt, außerdem führt die Schnellstraße Wilsonova darüber.
Im Jahr 1994 wurden außerhalb der Halle drei weitere Bahnsteige mit den Nummern 5 bis 7 in Betrieb genommen.
Rund ein Jahrhundert nach dem Bau musste auch das Gebäude des Hauptbahnhofs dringend saniert werden. Im Dezember 2006 begann der Umbau, der auf den Vorschlägen des tschechischen Architekten Patrik Kotas beruht. Neben der Modernisierung des Gebäudes wurden auch die direkten Zulaufstrecken aus Norden und Nordosten seit 2004 neu gebaut. Mit dem Projekt der Neuen Verbindung (Nové spojení) wurde der Hauptbahnhof direkt an den Bahnhof Holešovice unter Umgehung des Kopfbahnhofes Praha Masarykovo nádraží angebunden.
Der Bahnhof wirkt wie ein Flughafen, auf mehreren Monitoren lassen sich die jeweiligen Ankunfts– und Abfahrtszeiten leicht ablesen. Nur… es wird meist erst ca. 10 Minuten vor Abfahrt eines Fernzuges der betreffende Bahnsteig angezeigt, was ich nicht grad sehr toll finde aber das ist offenbar im ehemaligen Ostblock allgemeingültige, ‘stumme’ Regel.
Eines sollte man als Reisender wissen: DER BAHNHOF IST IN DER ZEIT ZWISCHEN 2.00 UND 4.00 UHR MORGENS GESPERRT! D.h. Ankunftszeit sollte also eher nicht in diesem Zeitraum liegen da man sonst den Bahnhof nicht sofort verlassen kann. :)

I cannot find Czech Rail HQ, but this review is about Czech trains… I have just jumped out of little dirty Polish Euro-​City train, 1^st class cart with no heating (!), no power plugs (!), no internet and one free water.
I boarded brand new Pendolino train in Ostrava to Prague! Super clean, with 56Mb/​s free wifi (!!!), power plugs everywhere and I was welcomed with free glass of wine (!), free rostbeef sanwich, hot tea and bottle water ! I cannot believe my eyes! it is not only totally incomparable (regrettably) with my home country rail, but also trains in Germany did not even stood next to it (recently in 1^st class EuroCity Berlin-​Munich) there was only one power plug per 4 people and free chocolate…
Congratulation to our southern neighbours! I wish I could see service like that in my life anywhere :)

This train station is nice. It’s easy to maneuver around and find your platform. There is a fairly small hall (small for a train station) in which to hang out before your departure which has quite a few shops including a few bakeries, Sephora, book/​stationary shops, clothing stores, and a few fast food restaurants. It was very clean, and the bathrooms were especially spotless.
One thing I noticed that I didn’t quite like is the lack of seating/​waiting space. There are a few benches and seating space inside restaurants, but there were tons of people sitting on the floors and generally standing around, leaning on walls. They should add some more benches along the hallways leading into the platforms.
Other than that, I would come to this train station again if I were planning a trip to central Prague.

A clean and a relatively modern train station.
Lots of shops and places to get something eat or drink. It also has a fairly decent pharmacy.
Getting the train from Prague to Vienna, we found the platform easy enough, but figuring out what carriage to get on was a bit harder in that that the carriage number on the ticket (272 I think) didn’t exist on the train. At least three staff members were around on the platform but it was impossible to get their attention, they were all in such a hurry to be somewhere else. We found the carriage with the next number down (271) and upon embarking found that this was the one we were suppose to be on all along!
If you are travelling from Prague to Vienna (or anywhere else in fact) and are tempted to book first class, don’t bother. It’s nothing to write home about. The regular seats are a little smaller, but look just as comfortable. Save your money.

Muy cerca del centro de Praga se encuentra la Estación Central de Trenes de Praga, Hlavni nadrazi. Dando un pequeño paseo desde la Plaza de Wenceslao puedes llegar sin problemas o en la linea C del metro. Desde aquí llegan y salen trenes hacia las principales ciudades de Chequia, a pueblos pequeños y a otras ciudades europeas. Yo cogí un tren hacía Viena y compré los billetes el día anterior en la misma estación. Tardó 4 horas y media y aunque tarda un poco más que un autobús y es un poco más caro, el viaje es más cómodo y el paisaje es espectacular.
La estación es bastante antigua y descuidada, pero no deja de llamar la atención lo hermosa que debe haber sido en su época de esplendor. Está operativa desde 1871 y es la más grande de la República Checa.

Der (die?) Praha hlavní nádraží ist der Hauptbahnhof von Prag. Super modern alles! Man denkt fast man sei in nem Flughafen. So groß der Bahnhof auch ist, ist aber alles ausgeschildert, so dass man recht schnell an den Shops vorbei zum Gleis findet (oder andersrum). Außerdem ist alles sauber und niemand pinkelt vor den Bahnhof oder trinkt viel zu viel Dosenbier. Also bei diesem Auftritt kann sich der eine oder andre deutsche Bahnhof eine Scheibe abschneiden.

Lang nicht dagewesen, insofern kann man nur hoffen, dass es heute etwas hübscher ist … aber Prag war ja schon immer eine Reise wert.

Vom schönen wiedererstandenen Dresdner Hauptbahnhof, dessen Renovierungsarbeiten fast beendet sind, fuhren wir zum Hauptbahnhof Prag. Wir wählten glücklicherweise für die Hinfahrt 1. Klasse im tschechischen Zug, was in etwa unserer 2. Klasse im etwas plüschigem Ambiente entspricht. In Prag HBF angekommen erwartete uns die Bahnhofshalle mit der grauen Tristesse des Ostberliner Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse der 70 er Jahre. Auf dem Weg zur Bahnhofsvorhalle war zu erkennen, dass von dem vielleicht einstmals schönen Jugendstilbahnhof nur noch wenig übrig geblieben ist. Alles wurde modern gesichtslos und hässlich überbaut und renoviert. Selbst eine wunderschöné Jugendstilkuppel (noch nicht restauriert) wurde in seltsamer Weise neu eingefasst. Die Bahnhofsvorhalle ist von ganz besonderer Hässlichkeit — unübersichtlich und unbequem. Ruhepunkt ist lediglich ein kleines Bahnhofscafe. Wahrlich keine gute Visitenkarte für eine so schöné Stadt ! Es ist zu befürchten, dass nach Abschluß der Renovierungsarbeiten (2011 oder vielleicht doch erst 2015) diesem Bahnhof auch der letzte alte Charme geraubt ist. Vielleich hätte man sich im nicht weit entfernten Dresden mal ansehen sollen, wie man einen Bahnhof vernünftig saniert und nicht kaputtrestauriert. Aber das Geld hierfür ist wohl in andere Kanäle verschwunden.
Auf der Rückfahrt nach Dresden erlebten wir die nächste Überraschung mit der tschechischen Bahn: es gab im Nachtzug nur 2. Klasse Wagen. Das sind alte umgebaute Personenwagen, die teilweise noch Abteile haben, teiweise aber offen sind. Diese offenen Abteile kann man mit besseren Viehwagen vergleichen. Fazit für mich: Unter diesen Umständen nicht mehr mit dem Zug nach Prag !!!
Den einen Stern vergab ich n u r, weil eine 0-​Sterne Bewertung nicht möglich ist.

Prague Hlavní Nádraží is a legendary train station, infamous for its shadowy trade of drugs and boys. It’s the heart of Prague’s underworld. Arriving tourists flee hastily past the gypsy families who reside on the benches outside, panic in their eyes as they’re approached by a young beggar high on «pervitin», the local amphetamine. Architecture-​wise, the old art nouveau building was extended by a communist-​style half-​underground section in the 1970s, which adds to the rough flavour of this central station.
Yeah, that’s Hlavní Nádraží for you — or at least it used to be. The train station is currently being renovated in an attempt to clean it up a bit. Too bad.

Der Prager Hauptbahnhof wurde im Jahr 1871 gebaut und in den Jahren 1901 bis 1909 nach Entwürfen von Josef Fanta zu einem prachtvollen Jugendstil-​Gebäude umgebaut.
Wie man auf meinen Fotos an der Fassade teilweise erkennen kann, wurde eine Sanierung dringend notwendig. Und so begannen die Sanierungsarbeiten bereits 2008 und sollen 2011 abgeschlossen sein.
