Been here a few times in the past for lunch and I always enjoyed their burgers even though they are bit expensive for what you get but it’s Copenhagen :) I went there last Friday with a friend to grab a couple beers and we ended up leaving our beers half finished to find another place as it tasted like the draft beer we had was in the keg too long. It had a heavy metallic taste and the girl behind the bar didn’t care or was willing to give us a fresh beer. Not sure I’d go back.

There are a few British theme bars. First, the slice of England in Copenhagen, which is Charlies Bar. Second, a Costa Del Sol English theme pub, which is Skt Nikoli(a little harsh, it is an OK place). Third, a place that is just like a British-themed American bar, that is Swedish owned and in Copenhagen. I took my American wife here, as the whole structure of that bar is like that of an American bar and the British theme is plastered on in such a way that suggests it is not for the benefit of Brits. There were several American beers. Linda F., the interesting green pea sauce is «mushy peas». What it is good at is a good selection of beer and catering to large groups. There is nothing wrong with it, really. I just found it soulless, hence the two star review. Edit. Upgraded to three stars. It is still far closer to an American bar than an English pub, but there is nothing wrong with American bars. And the beer is good.

+ one star for a solid beer selection that you can sample in little cups before you decide + one star for being able to accommodate large groups(we had between 6 – 9 people in and out all night and were able to seat everyone comfortably in the back of the pub + one star for decent pub food(fish and chips came with an interesting green pea sauce that I had never seen before). + one star for bartenders who know their product and are helpful — one star for the kitchy old-y pub look that does not really feel genuine(It is a Swedish chain and I guess they did pretty good for the English pub vibe, it’s just a little try-hard). One thing to note, the back of the pub has walls of bookshelves filled with random books which you can browse. But a warning that the only English books I saw were trashy romance novels with cringe-worthy titles. Solid pub to hang out in with friends.

7 real ales in Denmark?! Rubs eyes in astonishment. And 12+ keg options, some local and some from international names such as Brewdog. The place looks quite nice and the barstaff were really friendly when it came to choosing a beer from all the available options. I think that despite the English name, the bar probably belongs to a Swedish chain, because I know of at least 3 Bishops Arms on the other side of the water. So don’t feel so guilty about going to a ‘British bar’ abroad. Its almost worth a full five stars to be honest. I just think it’s a bit new, shiny and lacking in character/atmosphere at the moment and will feel a bit more comfortable when it is a bit more worn and established. Does that make sense? Hard to explain.
