Love the lakes! Love them in every season, especially the Sortedam. This one was my go-to place when I need to think and relax while I was living in town; I used to sit in one of the benches and just watch people run by, ducks swim and just stay there until I couldn’t feel my face because of the cold(suggestion if you want to do the same: bring hat, gloves and hot coffee/tea). However, I wouldn’t walk around it at night, it’s a bit dark for my taste. I loved to cross the bridge going back home in Norrebro and look at the reflections of the clouds and the neon signs at night, probably one of the places I remember the most from my time in CPH and one I keep coming back to, at least for a quick stop.

If you walk around on any given evening, you might run into the«cheer-up» guy. The first time I saw him, he told me to «cheer-up» and smile. I looked confused, so he repeated it in English, at which point I did cheer up and smile. The second time I saw him, he said something to me in Danish, so I smiled and that seemed please him and he continued on to randomly talk to other people. I think he might be drunk or crazy or both, but his heart seems to be in the right place and he makes me enjoy this lake because I smile every time I’m there. So if you see him, just smile.
