Paradis is a pure ice cream paradise. Pure flavors, pure pure. There is one thing they make here that I absolutely love, Licorice ice cream. They stopped making Licorice flavor in the U.S. for lack of popularity. When I made it here, that’s the first thing I asked for and sho ‘nuf they had licorice ice cream!!! The licorice here is like the Danish candy: bold, flavorful, savory, salty, sweet, bitter, yummy yummy, amazingly different and damn, amazingly good and addicting So, each day my travel kins would run in here with me. Each day I had my licorice ice cream and my day is set! Visits: many in Los Angeles, 5 in Copenhagen. Tip: Not expensive. Try all their flavors. You’ll be hooked.

Ok so if you feel like an ice cream, this I a better choice than other ice cream places. They make their own ice cream and there are typically many different flavors to choose from, that is can be difficult to decide. But you can ask to sample some of them before choosing. There are young people working here as a part time job, so the service is always different, some just have the service talent and some just don’t. The great thing is that they are open till late so if you get a sweet tooth, you go go go there:).

When living in Aarhus in 2001 – 2003, one of the highlights of the year was opening day of Paradis! Seriously, this was back when it was impossible to come around a decent ice cream so Paradis was — literally — a summer paradise! Since then years have past and Denmark overflows with good ice cream options — which is why it is sad to see that Paradis hasn’t developed one bit since then — it is basically the same selection and overall ice cream concept since late 90’s. I know the saying goes: If it ain’t broke don’t fix it — but I so do wish that Paradis would fix it a little bit.

since this place is everywhere, figured give it a try. and it made its way to LA. nothing like getting your strawberry ice cream(single 22 kroner), lighter a bit airy with strawberry seeds and sitting on a cobblestone sidewalk café overlooking european architectural buildings. that element hasn’t transplanted to the US yet.
