I had passed by Il Birrificio a few times and unable to get into another spot walked around the corner and gave it a shot. You order at the counter then find a seat which can’t be simpler. All the in house beer info is also easily found on the wall and the menu is simple; mostly based on their also homemade sausages. Not wanting a full meal, I went with the Poutine which has all the things I love — sausage, fries, cheese curds, and a light and slightly tart gravy. All yum, and all gone from the plate within minutes. I would think all the other menu items are equally worthy but if you just want a great beer, this place will do it too.

Il birrificio in Italian means the brewery and is an excellent place for a tasty lunch experience of the best of Italian cuisine. They brew their own beers and the food taste fresh. It’s a self service bar so you order your food at the bar and then just seat and relax. The brew selection is huge and very unique flavours. The interior is spacious and large tables for big groups. Nice for an afternoon lunch or a happy hour drink with friends.

It’s a new restaurant and bar in Helsinki, definitely one of a kind. The French blood sausage with salad, potatoe pyré and apple compote was delicious but the mushroom pasta lacked cream. The cheapest red wine was quite bad. The dessert, sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream was lovely but there was too little of ice cream. Latte coffee was nice. You have to order from the bar and take your glass of water and the cutlery yourself but the service was kind and the food came quick. The prices are very reasonable. The menu is short but the beer selection is wide and they make beer at the restaurant. I liked the interior design.

I will give them five stars since I can drink craft beer, eat amazing food, chill with the family(kids included) or go on a date with my husband, hang out with friends, throw a party, enjoy a quick drink with the girls, and __________(insert anything you might want to do involving eating and drinking with anyone and everyone in your life) at Il Birrificio and everyone will be happy. They get mad props for having a great in-house production beer. That is to say they brew it there. Behind a little glass window that you can look through to see the fancy beer brewing apparatus that is as of last week churning out some really yummy mommy water. They also have wine, sparkling wine, and wine :) The food is great! They have a cheese plate and charcuterie plate(10e and 13e) that are perfect to share and some seriously delicious fries(5e)…if you’re in a pinch for time and just want to catch up over some drinks and snacks order all three and you’ll be fat and happy and in and out in no time. The sausage platters are supposedly very good and they look super even to this vegetarian. The panzanella salad is one of the best I’ve ever had. And huge! Environment is nice: no fuss, nothing fancy. Some bar stools, two rooms with tables. One main dining room with LOADS of natural light due to the corner location and another room that makes a great space for parties or bigger get-togethers. This place is really worth a go. They DO have baby seats(for those of you who like a baby with that bubbly or beer), they DO have banquettes, they do have ample seating for groups, and it is also a fine place for a low-key date night. Their quality standards make me feel good about going there, their versatility makes me want to suggest the place for just about everything, and their menu just makes me hungry. Go here.

The people behind old favorites La Torrefazzione and Fratello have moved beyond serving good coffee and brunches to also expand into beer and proper restaurant food. In the space of a previous garlic restaurant they have opened up a restaurant where they serve up simple dishes from nice ingredients. The menu is refreshingly short, all in all around 10 dishes out of which 5 – 6 are mains and then there are a few snack dishes and some dessert. The food I had has been very good, uncomplicated but with flavors that really fit together well. In addition to serving good food they also brew their own beer on site as well as serve other good craft beer. The beer is very nice and a lot of interesting types of beer can be sampled(served in either small(0.2l) or regular(0.4l)). Nice and friendly service adds to the appeal of this place. Orders are places at the bar so can at times be a bit busy but not really an issue. The place is also nicely designed in a mix of rustic wood and white tiles behind the bar. The improvement would be to try to reduce the noise level in the bigger room as it got rather loud(and the tables are big so people sit fairly far from each other resulting in louder and louder conversations).

Great new micro brewery restaurant at Punavuori. They make their own beers and have some other crafts also on tap. Food: We tried some late evening french fries and cheese plate. They were good but nothing to blow your mind. Still waiting to go for a full dinner. Environment: Awesome NYC look and feeling inside the restaurant. Big brewery beer containers on top of the bar and a whole room full of brewery stuff. Place to go if you are a beer enthusiast. Service: Service has been great for the couple of times we’ve been here. They know their beers so ask if you’re not sure what you want or like. Price: Pretty much the same kinda expensive pricing as in every other restaurant and bar in Helsinki.
