Menu Moravia was delicious and the portion size was perfect. Czech garlic soup with bread crumbs and cheese for a starter; beef brisket, cheesy garlic potatoes, creamy spinach and apple sauce with horseradish for main course and Czech lemon-caramel cake Marlenka with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The service was nice and I liked the atmosphere and interior design. We we’re there for a class reunion and booked Havel cabinet on 4 floor. We didn’t need to pay any rent as we ordered food and drinks for over 350 euros.

Centrally located, big enough, tastefully decorated, decent level of noise etc. But, prepare to spend some money. Plus, I have an allergy against dinner tables that are so close, you can literally grab the food from the next table.

I have mixed feelings about Vltava. I’ve dined at this restaurant at least a dozen times. Sometimes they get everything right, other times things seem to fall apart. Vltava is a restaurant that serves Czech food. They have some absolutely delicious 5 –star dishes in the menu, where as some other things on the menu are fat with some more fat(avoid anything with sausages people). If there would be something I’d recommend, it would be the crispy fried brisket of beef. First the meat is boiled for six hours, then it is ripped apart and then after going to the oven(or fried or something). The end result is pretty spectacular. It is beef, but so far away from traditional briskets(~New York deli). The beer selection at this restaurant is very, very good. In fact, quite a few people come here just to drink beer and the bar area is about 2⁄3 of the whole restaurant. The wine selection isn’t that good, but there are normally some drinkable wines on the menu. The prices of at Vltava are ok, with the exception of the wines. Almost all of the wines(16cl glass) are around 10eur, which is a bit too much. The service is hit and miss. On some days the whole staff is very happy, where as on some other days you’d think that everyone had a lemon for breakfast.

There is a coat check downstairs as you enter, but rather than the usual 2 or 3 euro, you are encouraged to pay what you think is fair. Like everywhere else in town, if you have a heavy coat and/or backpack, they will try to get it from you and keep it here. Always love the food here… though the prices can be a bit steep. The restaurant is up on the third floor. To get a seat, you go to the bar on the *second* floor and ask them what the wait is going to be. The bar on the second floor has a ton of decent beers, so the wait is bearable when the place isn’t too busy. The whole second floor is stocked with comfy chairs and a few high tables… as well as it’s own restroom. The food is «Czech» and so are some of the beers. My favorite food is the fried brisket… just falls apart under your fork ;)

First was late on a saturday night, and it was throbbing, utterly packed. However, I did get served promptly. The second time was on a saturday afternoon, and it was much quieter, much more pleasant for rating. The beer selection is the best of all Czech pubs in Helsinki, IMHO, and they have chosen above average examples of Czech beers, not the weak sweet muck that unfortunately dominates other places selections. Handy location.
