Bayeux is a must-see: cathedral, tapestry, and the Musee de la Bataille will take a few hours, and should be done before the pilgrimage to the beaches. This means lunch in Bayeux, and if you’re there on a Monday pickings are slim. But Le Bouchon is open and is just right for an economical and homelike bite: it’s a wine shop(good selection) with a few tables and a 12 euro menu. A tiny corner-stove behind a tiny bar does daily specials to order. Choices necessarily limited. We had starter salads(not much greenery but a lot of charcuterie), and both mains on the board(poulet roti and tripe a la mode de Caen). Delicious. The 50 cl pichet was filled from a labelled bottle(a Touraine red) and was priced at only ten euros(note that most house wines come from an anonymous source and are often pure plonck. Recommended.

A very cozy wine bar close to the Tapestry Museum, it holds about 20 people. All the food is a la minute and well done. Lots of wine choices as this is also a wine store. A good stop for a reasonable lunch, close to parking. Damian speaks English so no language issues.
