The waiters here have gotten more friendly toward Americans over the years, but the prices are ridiculous. Love the location and the action around the back of the Eglese Madeleine is borderline frantic during morning and evening rush hour, whick in Paris is like 8 to 10:30 am, and again from 4 to 6 pm. Unlike many traditional cafes in Paris, the Madeleine will do takeout coffee or tea to go for about 3.50 Euros.(Don’t expect a cover. It’s not Starbucks.) A sit-down coffee or tea with milk, honey, sugar, and a tiny complimentary pastry will run about 6.40 Euros.

We stopped in for dinner and were not at all happy with the food or service. When we first sat down the waiter was very friendly. We ordered a sausage meal, a vegetarian salad, and the fajita meal. The fajita meal was good, the fries that came as a side were crispy and salted well. The«sausage» was actually just hot dogs, a little disappointed there. But I was really let down by the salad, I know it seems weird to complain about a salad but it was really bad. It tasted like all the vegetables were soaked in white vinegar, I had to send it back, it was uneatable. When I told the waiter I didn’t like the salad he became very angry and stormed off. When we asked him for the check, he brought it but very rudely. He went so far as to yank the plate away from my husband even though he was clearly still eating. To their credit they DID remove the salad from the tab. But we will not be going back there.

We were staying right next door at the Madeleine hotel plaza(lovely hotel FYI) and we arrived our first day in Paris and while waiting for our room came here for breakfast. Coffee and pastries which were good. We sat outside — it was truly lovely. Price was 19 euro — not horrible. After a few days in Paris we came in for 2 coffees and a lemon tart and a scoop of ice cream. 36 euro!!! The coffee we like 9 bucks each. Crazy! Wander around the corner and there are lovely little cafes w much better coffee and much better prices. In a pinch this is fine but honestly there is much better !

Not worth it and not clean ! Tartare marron. Ridicule !!

Just a quick stop to rest our legs. Nothing special. Quick in and quick out. Service was efficient. It’s in a touristy area so of course prices are not good. We spent ~9 euros on a perrier & café noisette.

Excellent food. I had poisson du moment with ratatouille moderne and friend had steak with fried potato and pepper sauce, both done very well! The waiter was expectedly attentive, as we have learned French waiters in Paris can be, so good service and excellent street corner atmosphere near Arc and Printemps!

I had a happy time here this evening. It was my intention to get there earlier today, for breakfast, but that didn’t happen. I still made it, because it is in a convenient location, and I like the sidewalk atmosphere. I sat down to a happy waiter. As I sat, I noticed all the servers were pretty happy. That helped to brighten up my evening. I asked for water, no gas. I was asked if that’s all I wanted or if I planned on ordering food. It’s an odd question to me, but maybe they get people like that. It seemed like he wanted to tell me something if I was not going to be ordering food. However, I was. The menu looked great. It made me wish I could have breakfast there. However, it was dinner time. There is a last page to the menu, which basically lists the fish, meat, salad, soup, et cetera of the day. But there are no descriptions. You have to ask the server. I’m accustomed to the server telling me what the special of the day is, not having to ask. Upon asking however, I chose the hamburger of the day: a New York steak burger. When my meal came out, it was excellent. The burger could have been tastier with some seasoning, but the rest of it was excellent. The service was good. The people watching was good. Thank God for the wind that blew people’s smoke the other way, so I could enjoy myself. All-in-all, worth coming back.

If you are looking for a casual Parisian brunch with great coffee and lots of choices for food, go here. You’ll remember it more for the location and people-watching opportunities than the actual meal but that’s ok!

This was a great place for breakfast. Waiter was helpful and polite(in English and French), bathrooms were clean. Seemed like locals and tourists came in and out. A bit pricey but a good bang for your buck(with breakfast fair). I would definitely repeat.

Given the red/black décor was ripped right from 1970, I had extremely low expectations in the flavor dept — but our omelettes actually had wild shrooms in them and the french bread was crusty/doughy deliciousness — I was suitably pleased with my meal. Would never go out of my way to rec this place to anyone, but an innocuous choice for a meal — can get omelettes, quiche, burgers, salads, proper entrees, and pastry snacks. Around 1p, was packed with those doing dejeuner and those there to sip coffee, nibble croissants, and people watch. Word to the wise, definitely skip dessert as the apple galette was straight from some warehouse’s freezer section. Lunch of two omelettes, teas, and a dessert was $ 60, which is outrageous for the very standard fare — and weirdly, it’s not tres chere b/c it’s like an undergroup Hard Rock Café Paris or anything touristy like that — we were surrounded by locals, adding to my confusion over the prices.

Not bad! The croque monsieur is okay and they had a rosse wine in a decent price. So if you’re in the area is a good option but if you’re a bit far i wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. As other comments mention, the place is a bit touristy And the waiters are not very nice. The créeme brulee is outstanding!

Not bad, not great. The fries were good, the Croque Monsieur was ok, and the charcuterie of cheese was blaahhh. This place severely marks up its products probably bc you have an amazing view of the Madeleine, but paying 23 € for a bottle of Bordeaux and then seeing it at Monop’(French grocery store) for 6 € was b.s. I give it 3 stars because the chocolate dessert was delicious and our waiter was funny and laid back… and spoke English lol

Not bad. Convenient stop while walking to get the kids a snack and the grownups a drink. Nice people-watching spot on busy corner. Drinks were weak as in all of Paris… stick to beer and wine. Nutella crêpe reported to be very good. Wouldn’t go out of my way to stop here but otherwise OK.

Horrible experience. Our waiter(Pascal) brought us the wrong order. When we corrected him he yelled at us, called us names, and hit our table. Very unprofessional and the food was average. Very disappointing experience compared to the rest of the wonderful cafes in Paris. Would NEVER recommend to anyone or go here again.

Location, location, location. That’s pretty much the only noteworthy thing about this café located across the street from l’Eglise de la Madeleine. The food is fine, as are the drinks and the service. Prices are on the touristy side without being outragious. Nothing to write home about but convenient enough if you are looking for a place to meet someone in the area.

a frenchy french café on a busy corner of paris. i would call this place touristy but i also see lots of locals frequenting this place. it’s a nice spot to come hang out, have brunch/lunch or just a coffee or cocktail, and people watch. located directly across from the madeleine and next to the main shopping area, it’s just a convenient and decent café. we walked by this place enough times, but only decided to come the first time because it was one of the only places in this area that was open on Sunday… first off, i love the décor! everything is red, black and silver. just looks very cool. it’s casual enough to come have a café au lait and croissant but nice enough to have a cocktail or two in the evening. i kinda wish the tables weren’t so dinky but i guess that’s the french café way. also… anyone noticed that only men work here? i guess that’s the french café way as well! don’t expect the food here to be the best french cuisine ever… this is just a café. it’s not bad, but nothing special for france. we had the croque madame and the mushroom omlette. both were pretty good, served with mixed greens and fries on the side. the fries were cute! they were! they were curled to kinda look like tubes or something. i’ve never seen that before! of course the coffee was divine. soooo good. my café au lait… omg… perfect. we came another time and had a croissant and it was warm, crispy and also perfect. ahhhhh~ i’ve always wanted to sit outside here but people be smoking their faces off. when we come to paris again in the winter, maybe we’ll stop by, but we wont go out of our way to come.

My friend and stopped here for some post-shopping/pre-dinner drinks. We sat on the terrace on a beautiful summer afternoon. In addition to two cocktails, my friend and I shared a lemon tart topped with meringue. It was very good and sweet, but not too sweet. I had a bit of a headache from the previous night, so I had a vodka cranberry, with extra cranberry juice. The waiter was kind enough to bring out a small pitcher of juice for me. I really appreciated that. I would definitely stop by here the next time I am in the area to have a few drinks and relax.
