Arriving here was like finding the Holy Grail at long last. Years ago Bön Apetit mag featured an article on how to make an «opera cake»: a three layer pastry with espresso-soaked sponge cake, layers of deep chocolate ganache and butter cream — time-consuming but a huge flavor bomb. I made it … but always yearned to try t he original. And so I did … ordering by pointing(the woman spoke no English, and I’m limited to a few phrases only). I ate standing at a small table the store has, with some ice water to avoid diluting the flavor at all. And it was worth the trip to Paris … and worth a trip back.

I was visiting friend in Paris and she introduced me to Dalloyau chocolates. They are creamy, delicious and one of the best chocolates I’ve had. I hope to try the pastries the next time!

gorgeous breads, tarts, and pastries. but come here for the apricot macarons! while the macarons may be smaller compared to laudree or pierre herme the prices match the size. apricot macarons = awesome goodness at dalloyau!

The pastries at the Dalloyau Gourmet counter in the Galeries Lafayette may not be as exquisitely crafted and presented as those at some of Paris’ other patisseries, but the shop more than makes up for this in terms of the convenience of its long opening hours and location. Lafayette Gourmet is one of my first stops whenever I am in Paris.
