Le Resto

The best cure for cold weather is a warm place which radiates with the joy of people who enjoy what they do and share that joy with others. Le Resto is a small family owned place with its heart centered on providing a respite for a meal filled with calm and style.
Since my stomach is still recovering from a bad flu, I could not imagine eating more than one course, but of course I was happy to try a bite of everything:) My friends split two appetizers, the first, a pan seared foie gras, came with a delicious sweet and tangy fruity compote decorated with sprigs of color. I was disappointed by the lukewarm foie, barely seared or seasoned. One piece was mushy, while the other one was much firmer. I would not order this dish again even though I am a foie gras fan, but we all fought over the compote as we left some foie on the plate :(
A much better appetizer was the shrimp with warm avocado and mache. The slightly citrus creamy sauce worked well with the rich avocado and the shrimp.
Our favorite main course was the beef cheek, which was meltingly tender and fully flavored, accompanied by a beautiful assortment of root vegetables.
Two of us ordered the sea bass which came with a black rice risotto and leek confit. The fish was a very thin piece and both of us found our fish slightly overcooked and under seasoned, but we were addicted to the black rice and leek confit. I could easily have made a meal of the side dish and been extremely happy.
Dinner for three with two appetizers, three main courses, a bottle of wine and a tea came to about 100 € or about $ 115 USD, a very reasonable price for the ingredients, care and excellent service. The server (one of the owners) gave us kisses goodbye, saying that is how they say goodbye there! She was definitely not a native Parisian:)

My wife and I have been staying in the Mouffetard area in Paris for several years two weeks at a time. We have tried different restaurants for dinner on a daily basis, both local as well as the Paris general environs. Never did we believe that one of the hidden gems of all our visits was in our very back yard off Le Mouffetard at Le Resto. Great service along with magnificent tasting food all prepared by a fabulous chef whose staff spoke a little more English but had a lot more patience with me trying to understand my few words of French, made for a wonderful French experience. Le Resto has been open for little more than one year. I would highly recommend this gem before the word gets out and you can’t get a reservation and have a similar experience to ours.

Les gérants de ce Resto ont repris les lieux depuis 2 mois seulement. Je suis passée devant pendant des années sans y mettre les pieds: autrefois resto corse, puis coréen, le Resto est maintenant un restaurant français proposant une cuisine à base de produits qui m’ont semblé de qualité, un poil terroir revisité.
Nous étions un groupe de 16 (!) et nous avons été accueillis avec sourire et sympathie. Nous avons pris une formule à 23 €, plat + dessert, à prix très correct pour le quartier et la qualité.
Par exemple on y a mangé un pavé de boeuf (très tendre) avec une sorte de petit gâteau fondant de pommes de terre, une sauce au poivre du sechuan et des trompettes de la mort, ou bien une pintade avec une sauce crémeuse, une purée de panais et des légumes anciens rôtis (des crosnes !).
En dessert nous étaient proposés une tarte citron meringuée ou bien un sablé speculoos surmontée d’une mousse chocolat et d’une chantilly à la banane, avec une glacé au chocolat et un caramel à l’ananas, le tout maison.
Nous avons très bien mangé, et les vins proposés étaient plutôt pas mal: le Chinon un peu vert, mais le Bordeaux à 28 € était excellent.
La salle quant à elle est plutôt petite mais chaleureuse, avec des murs en pierre apparente et des touches de modernité dans le choix des couleurs et la rénovation.
A noter aussi que l’endroit propose des formules à 16 € pour le déjeuner, avec des plats alléchants.

Lovely décor. Friendly service despite language barrier. Simple yet delicious French food. Caprese salad with a twist; basil sorbet! Nice Dijon sauce with pork filet. Great cheese board.

Une cuisine excellente à des tarifs tout à fait raisonnables. Le chef évite les lieux communs pour laisser parler sa créativité. Une des meilleures adresses de Paris à mes yeux. A découvrir absolument !

Très bon restaurant !
Très bon restaurant, les plats travaillés et originaux. La carte qui change une fois par mois. L’intérieur sympathique. 28e pour entrée, plat, dessert, très bon rapport qualité prix.

Excellente adresse !
Cuisine raffinée et originale pour un prix raisonnable: à essayer absolument ! La carte évolue au cours des saisons pour nous proposer des produits frais des plus originaux (truffes d’été, morilles etc…)
