One of the only places where you can ask for«lait d’amande»(almond milk) and they won’t look at you like you’re insane. Trust me, I asked at Monoprix right next door(which is a cross between Safeway and Target) and they had no idea such a thing even existed! They actually have several different brands of almond milk as well as all the other staples for health food nuts: rice milk, soy products, quinoa, etc. They have a limited grocery section which is a bit pricey but everything is organic or «bio» in French. I like the selection of beers, wines, and juices as well as the pre-prepared soups which I use as a base to create my own concoctions. If you are looking for vitamins, probiotics, and essential oils, they also have a bigger selection than any other place I’ve seen so far.

So far as I can tell, this is probably the best natural food store in Europe. Being abroad and desperately seeking rapadura, large quantities of real maple syrup, kombucha, almond flour, almond milk, coconut flour, various hippy supplements… this place has it all. I wanted to buy the whole store.

Le reapprovisionnement au niveau des laitages laisse quelquefois a désirer mais dans l’ensemble le choix est assez large. Personnel très agréable et compétent.

Naturalia is one of the biggest chains of health-food chains. This is a review of one of the many locations. This location is useful because it’s near a variety of other stores(for vegetables, meats, cheese, Monoprix) so you can do all of your shopping at the same time. Gluten-free notes: This is a store that sells a decent range of gluten-free products. They sell gluten-free pasta, gluten-free flours and baking ingredients, and packaged baked goods(they all look a bit gross, like others I have seen in France). They claim to sell a gluten-free bouillon, but it wasn’t labeled on the package as such so I didn’t buy it. During my most recent visit, I noticed they have a few new gluten-free flours, specifically grapeseed flour(cool!) and brown millet. They also have the usual quinoa, rice, etc.

I was going to write a more negative review, saying that it seemed a bit crazy for Paris’s largest(?) health-food/natural-food/hippie-food store to only carry 3 types of gluten-free pasta. It seems that in the past few months, they have increased this to 6. Their selection of other gluten-free products seems a bit improved as well, though they still don’t carry good gluten-free bread. Some other products that gluten-free folks may be interested in: — tamari(soy-only, no-wheat soy sauce) — yes, they have it — agave(a natural sweetener) — yes, in squeeze bottles, even! — yacon(another type of natural sweetener) — couldn’t find it — stevia(another alternative sweetener) — was out of stock — arrowroot powder — yes, they do have it! Perhaps I missed it on the last few trips. It’s in the back, on the right, near the bottom. — gluten-free oats — couldn’t find them. They have many types of oats, in the US oats are typically manufactured on the same equipment as wheat, making oats no longer gluten-free Gluten-free flours: — sarrasin /farine noir(buckwheat) — yes — quinoa — yes — teff(used to make injera) — yes Some other great things you can find here are a wide selection of nut butters(mmm… cashew, almond, macadamia…), a decent selection of Asian foods, and various nutritional supplements.
