Soju Bar

Soju Bar bills itself as a destination for «Korean Street Food». Owned and operated by the same folks behind Kimchi Princess and Angry Chicken, it forms part of a small nexus of Korean restaurants anchoring a corner on Skalitzerstrasse.
The «Korean Street Food» schtick is a fine and intriguing concept, but Soju Bar executes it with highly varying degrees of success.
Bibimbap, for instance, is a dish that typically represents comfort food in its best and highest form. Anticipating bibimbap, one envisions billowy steam rising from a bowl of pleasantly sticky rice, a kaleidoscope of pickled vegetables, intoxicatingly-​marinated strips of beef, lusciously molten yolk, and the fiery-​tangy-​sweet gochujang sauce that marries all these flavors together into one satisfyingly indulgent experience.
All those dreams will be dashed at Soju Bar, whose kitchen turns out a stingy, ice-​cold dish that brings something like shame upon the good name of bibimbap. Even the fried egg on top had a pronounced chill. The tiny shreds of beef looked as though they had been helpfully pre-​gnawed and all together could not have weighed more than a single ounce.
When the bibimbap arrived, I thought my waiter had forgotten to bring the gochujang sauce. Turns out one tablespoon of the stuff had been hidden beneath the fried egg. Asking my waiter for extra gochujang yielded one more carefully rationed out tablespoon of the sauce. And that involved a thirty cent surcharge.
Most Korean restaurants have gochujang sauce available on the table for diners to use at their pleasure. I have never heard of a surcharge, or of giving it out so stingily!
The bibimbap cost 6.50 Euro for about two cups of food total, half of which was rice. This is a terrible deal, especially in Berlin where food is generally so affordable. I hope you won’t make the same mistake I did by ordering the bibimbap at Soju Bar.
I also had a «Medium”-sized order of the Angry Chicken – Korean-​fried chicken wings with various sauces. I’d tried these in the past and was not impressed, but wanted to give them another try. This time, I had the «Furious Chicken» which is the hottest spice level. They were delightful – crispy, crunchy, shattering crust and skin; firm, fresh, tender meat on fairly meaty wings; and the sauce itself was an intriguing blend of sweet, salty, spicy, tangy flavors, with chopped onion adding to the sweet and savory flavor profile. 3 Euro bought six pieces of the chicken wings.
The outdoor seating at a long communal table was clean and comfortable, and the waiter at my table was friendly and attentive.
I would come back to Soju Bar for the wings, but otherwise am inclined next time to give it a miss.

Gestern Nacht ging ich mit meinem Koreanerkumpel Somaek trinken. Es gab zwei Mitarbeiter hinter der Bar, ein junger Koreaner und eine Koreanerin.
Der Kellner war freundlich und schnell. Die Bar allerdings auch fast leer, da es Dienstag war.
Die Getränkekarte fand mein Kumpel interessant und er sagte mir, dass die Essen auf der Karte gar keine Anju seien obwohl es dort steht. Angry Chicken Chickenwings konnte man leider nicht mehr bestellen um kurz vor 23 Uhr. Schade, die hätten wir gern getestet. Für mich war die Auswahl auf der Karte was Drinks angeht auch etwas unerwartet klein. Die gespielte Musik dort war Clubmusik und die koreanischen Leuchtreklamen gefielen mir. Müssten noch mehr rein dann wäre es perfekt. Diese Bar lohnt sich auf jeden Fall mal zu besuchen.

Netter kleiner Club der sehr versteckt liegt. Daher braucht es auch seine Zeit bis es voll wird. Man kann in der Zwischenzeit im kleinen Nachbarzimmer Karaōke singen. Das ist richtig klein, aber daher auch richtig lustig. Den Wein sollte man sich hier nicht bestellen. Sehr klebrig-​süß

I really wanted to enjoy this spot, but alas.
My boyfriend was invited to DJ here the other night, so we went. Not sure if we would have known about this spot any other way, but I guess it’s the new chill spot in town.
You walk into Angry Angry Chicken to a set of doors in the back, and bam. You’re in Soju Bar.
We arrived early to find a beautiful, albeit tiny space. The walls were painted black and there were classic Seoul back alley style signs on the wall, and a much needed floor to ceiling mirror to give the area an illusion of space. Seriously the room was about the size of our living room (30 square meter?).
Great space, a rad list of Soju based cocktails, drinks were moderately priced (6 € vodka tonics/​whiskey Cokes, 7 € vodka Red Bulls, 2 € shots of liquor or «Melonen Eis,» which they were out of that night).
You can smoke inside, which I’m still getting used to coming from California and New York.
But I can’t really give this place 5 stars, due to the bartenders. The two working that night were quite a pair. They constantly took breaks to sit, make themselves drinks and to chain smoke. They weren’t very friendly, they wouldn’t look you in the eye and overall, they just seemed pissed to be there. Quit, suckers! I know plenty of people who would rather have your jobs.
But in the end, I’d come back because the pros outweigh the cons but I would make sure to prebooze it hard, just to avoid the bartenders.
Lose the ‘tudes, brah! It’s not that cute, especially since you guys aren’t that hip to begin with.

ich liebe diese bar! liegt vielleicht daran dass sie Soju anbieten!
ist total winzig, find die einrichtung mit der leuchtreklame super! ist eher eine kleine bar mit einer mini tanzfläche, es ist meist gut gefüllt, es gibt né kleine sitzecke und einen kleinen raum mit karaōke funktion die nicht immer funktioniert und vielleciht auch nicht der beste ort ist für karaōke, aber ich bin ja nicht hier um zu singen.
Die drinks sind ok, es ist halt eine soju bar, wo man eine soju flasche nach der anderen in shots mit seinen freunden teilt!
5Euro Eintritt zu verlangen find ich schon bissl abzocke. aber sonst einer meiner lieblingsbars!

Ok, wenn du der Meinung bist, dass dein Outfit im Stil der frühen 80er wirklich cool ist und deine Nerdbrille sowie dein Hut mal wieder unter die Leute müssen, dann bist du hier goldrichtig. Oder eben auch an der Warteschlange nebenan. Deine Entscheidung.
Für mich war beides langweilig

Sehr schöné, kleine Bar mit toller Innenausstattung. Besonders Mittwochs wenn ONLY A FOOL WOULD PLAY THAT auflegen hält das Tanzbein nicht mehr still, funky and groovy.
Preise sind in Ordnung nur der Eingang ist beim ersten Mal etwas schwer zu finden, da man durch den Imbiss durch muss.

Friday night. Korea meets Berlin. Music: electric & soul. Drinks fair. Karaōke on the toilet. Nice atmosphere.

Der Laden ist sehr schlicht eingerichtet, aber hat alles was eine Bar benötigt. Vom Style passt es vielleicht nicht ganz in diese Kreuzberger Ecke, aber der Bezirk ist ja auch im Wandel. Wir sind in einer größeren Gruppe hier gewesen und dafür war der Laden genau richtig. Da hier Platz zum tanzen war und auch zum chillen. Also genau richtig, um schon mal die «vorzuglühen» und dann in eine Club seiner Wahl zu wanken.

mag den kleinen Club. Moskow Mule mit Soju, hat mir gut geschmeckt.
die leuchtreklame find ich auch ganz toll. geh ich gerne hin.

Was ist das denn? Mitten in Kreuzberg, sehr hübscher kleiner Club, 1a Bookings, nettes Personal, aber dann diese Drinks. Die haben mir da sogar ein Carlsberg auf den Tresen stellen wollen ohne rot zu werden.
