At Neis the staff are nice enough. So too is the ambience. This is a solid Grünwald café, the perfect place to have a coffee with a friend or relax with the Sunday paper. It’s a stone’s throw from Grünwald’s Marktplatz and yet set back a bit from the road. There could be a much bigger contingent of tables and umbrellas out front during the summer months than the usual 3 – 4 sets on its patio. That highlights the challenge. The quality of the baked goods at Neis has frankly become not so nice over the past 2 years. The Semmel are airy and tastless, the cakes, well let’s just say my kids won’t even eat them anymore. Neis has one saving grace that doesn’t quite redeem it: Sunday mornings and holidays its ‘dunkele handgeschlagene Semmel’ which is why I’m here this morning. Who knows how much longer?
