The Caribean Restaurant boasted a wonderful breath of fresh air in a pretty saturated market. The easy kill would have been to open another Italian place, or another German cuisine restaurant, but who would have though Caribbean? So some friends invited my wife and I out here for a casual dinner to catch up. Having just arrived from a place more tropical, they were excited to get back to some island flavor. I was just happy to get a new Unilocal out of it, and try something that we wouldn’t have normally picked. The results, were a pretty unanimous«meh». Nothing was great, and nothing was terrible. That feeling was surprisingly consistent through then entire experience. The menu was very small, with a small assortment of apps, around 8 or 9 dinner options, and a full selection of drinks. But several menu items seemed to be different variations of the same thing, or similar enough that it didn’t seem like I had a large selection. Factor in a few token German schnitzels, and I was only between one or two things. But, what was nice was that each item we ordered came out well cooked, well seasoned and with good presentation. They served our chicken in a pretty unique stew-like pot of sauce, and little side salads and rice allowed for a nice mix. But according to our expert dinners, hardly the same flavor level they were used to. It seems this place, like many, is a little on the bland side. But food aside, our server was extremely polite and the venue was clean and cozy. I would say this place is perfect for those not ready to make the plunge to a true authentic island-food experience, but would prefer a safer approach with safer options. And you know what? That’s not a bad thing.
