Place rating: 4 Hong Kong
Simple but authentic Bistrot or Brasserie style cuisine. Worth the detour!

I’ve heard about this place for a very long time. Finally i visited hong kong, and a few days ago I finally have time to go to Hong Kong island for some errands. First restaurant that pop into my mind is this one, a la maison. Even in USA I like to dine at boutique restaurants instead of chains. They preserve a higher quality toward every aspects of the dining experience. I didn’t have a chance to book a table, really not my style… so I stumble upon the door step at 12pm, which is the time they open. Lucky for me, they were still able to sit us for a table of 2 people. Every walk in customers afterward weren’t able to get a table. We were so lucky! All of the seats are sofa seats, feels like a lounge and homey. There are 4 bar table seats too. The staffs are well informed and very friendly Since now it is the Christmas holiday season, they have a set menu for us to choose from. We have to choose between 2 appetizers, a few main courses, and between 2 desserts. The set lunch also include an after drink, or before if you want. I took a picture of the menu so you can take a look what they have. I decided to try the chestnut soup with truffle for the appetizer, it’s simple and not over creamy. The truffle really blends well with the chestnut flavor, very christmasie. For the main course I had a medium rare rib eye with potato gratin. Not super but not bad, the rib eye wasn’t cooked evenly, some were medium well and the center was still kinda raw. The potato gratin was thinly cut and the cream wasn’t too thick and oily. For the dessert course, and I highly recommend, is the fried bread with tiramitsu and rum icecream. It was well presented and all parts complimented each other. Just that the bread was a bit over fried and a bit chewy. If you are a wine drinker, you can add 25 dollars for a table wine, they have red white or rose, I had a glass of cabinet sauvignon and better than a lot of house wine I’ve tasted. I notice a lot of café and restaurant now warm up the milk before they serve you along with the coffee. It’s a nice gesture especially in the cold weather we are experiencing. Overall I am very content about this place. I most likely will revisit this place the next time I come back to HK
